Deans and Chapters.

AN Ordinance for abolishing all Deans, Subdeans, and Chapters, &c. out of the Church of England, and for Sale and Disposal of their Possessions, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question committed unto Sir Walter Erle, Mr. Pury, Mr. Knightley, Mr. John Stephens, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Strode, Sir Robert Harley, Mr. Ellison, Mr. Annesley, Sir James Harrington, Mr. John Corbett, Mr. Edward Stephens, Mr. Selden, Mr. Tate, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Blakiston, Mr. Penrose, Mr. Vachill, Sir Anthony Irby, Mr. John Ash, Mr. Rous, Mr. Crew, Mr. Swynfen, Mr. Erle, Mr. Reynolds, Major General Skippon, Mr. Moore, Mr. Wheeler, Sir Thomas Dacres, Sir Wm. Bacon.

Settling Ministers.

Ordered, That, every Wednesday and Friday, peremptorily, in every Week, the first Business, and nothing to intervene, the Ordinances for settling Ministers in particular Churches be read till Ten of Clock: And that Mr. Speaker do, from time to time, put the House in mind of this Order,

Removing Papists, &c.

Mr. John Stephens reports the Amendments to the additional Ordinance for putting Papists and Delinquents out of the Lines of Communication, and Twenty Miles Distance thereof: The which were twice read.

Resolved, &c. That the Nineteenth Day of this instant Month of June shall be the Day for filling up the Blank.

The Amendments were then upon the Question, assented unto.

A Proviso was read, and passed, That this Ordinance shall not extend to such Persons as have prosecuted their Compositions, and sue out their Pardons, under the Great Seal of England.

A Declaration, That this Ordinance and the Ordinance of 23 Maii 1648, are intended to extend to all sequestered Ministers, that are sequestered for Delinquency or Scandal, was likewise read; and passed.

Then the Ordinance, so amended, upon the Question, passed; and is ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Mr. John Stephens is appointed to carry it to the Lords.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Knightley carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Order concerning Banbury Castle: Order concerning the Duke of Gloucester: Order for Twenty Pounds to the Messenger that brought the News of the Success of Colonel Wayte's Forces: Ordinance for Forty-two thousand Pounds, upon the Sequestrations, for the Soldiery: Order for the Disposal of the Remainder of the One hundred and Fifty thousand Pounds, charged upon the * * * * Ordinance for the Militia in the County of Radnor: Order to give Power to the Committee at Derby House to grant Commissions to raise Two Troops of Horse, of Volunteers, for Northamptonshire: Order for granting Commissions to the Gentlemen in Yarmouth.

Cambridge University.

Whereas by former Order, of the * Day of * last the Sum of * was ordered to be paid unto * * for a Library of Books, to be bestowed on the University of Cambridge: Now, in regard the said Money is not yet provided, nor paid to the said * *; it is Ordered, That, upon Delivery of the Books, the said * * shall have Interest for Forbearance of the said Money, every Six Months, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. from the Date of the former Order, until the Payment of the said * Principal Money; the said Interest to be charged upon Haberdashers Hall.

Ordered, That Sir Anthony Irby do take Care for the speedy Payment of the said Money.

Arrears of Scotts Money.

Ordered, That the Members of this House do take care, that the Arrears of the Scotts Money be speedily paid in the several Counties wherein they serve, according to former Order.

Raising Forces, &c.

Ordered, That Power be given to the Committee at Derby House, to grant Commissions unto Captain Wm. Boteler, Captain John Stirk, Captain John Combes, Mr. Henry Benson, and Captain Dickenson, and their inferior Officers, to raise Two Troops of Horses, of Volunteers; for securing the County of Northampton, and suppressing Tumults in those Parts.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Lords and Commons, sitting at Derby House, to take care to secure the Town of Yarmouth in Norfolke, and the Island of Lovingland in Suffolke, and Flegg in Norfolke: And to have Power to grant Commissions, as they shall think fit, to raise Forces and suppress Tumults and Insurrections, and to preserve the Peace of those Parts.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Mr. Corbett is to carry it to the Lords.

Privilege- Assault on a Member.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Complaints, to send for Papers and Records; and to examine the Business touching the Assault made upon Sir Henry Mildemay, by the Duke of Richmond's Servant: And the said Committee is to sit this Afternoon, to that Purpose.

Publishing Scandals, &c.

Ordered, That the Powers formerly given to the Committee of Examinations, and the Powers given to the Committee of Complaints or Informations, be brought into the House To-morrow Morning: And then the House do take into Consideration the Placing of such a Power in a Committee, as may enable them to prevent the Publishing of such Scandals as are daily vented, and the Workings and Contrivements of Delinquents and Malignants, against the Parliament.

Removing Papists, &c.

Mr. Stephens carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for the speedy and more effectual putting in Execution the Ordinance for putting Papists and Delinquents out of the City of London, and Lines of Communication.

Mr. Stephens brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the said Ordinance.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for the more speedy and effectual putting in Execution the Ordinance for putting Papists and Delinquents out of the City of London, and Lines of Communication, and Twenty Miles distant, be forthwith printed and published.

Presbyterial Government.

An Ordinance touching the Presbyterial Government was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read again on Wednesday next, at Nine of Clock, the first Business: And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind thereof.

Sir T. Hampson.

Ordered, That, on Thursday Morning next, Sir Thomas Hampson's Business be taken up.

Army Pay, &c.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army do meet this Afternoon; and present the State of the Army, and the Obstructions in bringing in the Assessments for the Army, to this House To-morrow Morning; and do also consider of a Way, and present their Opinions to the House To-morrow Morning, How a Month's Pay may be forthwith raised, and paid to the Army.

Exeter City.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Examination of the Business concerning Exeter, and the Consideration of the Letters and Papers from Sir Hardres Waller, is referred, be revived; and do meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Place formerly appointed for that Committee; and so de die in diem.
