Prayers.

Payment to Moore.

ORDERED, That Sir Henry Vane junior, Knight, Treasurer of the Navy, do forthwith pay unto Colonel John Moore, Owner of the Ship called the Moore Cocke, lately employed in the Service of the State, the Sum of Three hundred and Sixty Pounds, in full of the Freight due for the said Service, according to a Bill signed by the Commissioners of the Navy: Whose Receipt, with this Order, and the said Bill, shall be the sufficient Discharge of the said Sir Henry Vane.

And it is further especially recommended unto the Committee of the Navy, to give Order to the Treasurer of the Navy to make present Payment of the said Sum of Three hundred and Sixty Pounds to the said Colonel John Moore, in regard of his great Services and Disbursements, which have brought him to some Exigences.

Nechill Accompts.

Ordered, That Mr. Hill do bring in an Ordinance for Discharge of the Nechill Accompts.

Sheriffs Accompts.

Ordered, That, on Saturday come Sevennight, the first Business, the Ordinance touching Sheriffs Accompts be read.

Hertford Militia.

Ordered, That the Gentlemen of the County of Herts do prepare and bring in an Ordinance for settling the Militia in the County of Herts.

Ld. Capell.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to consider of the Information given out of Hertfordshire, touching the Lord Capell; and to take special Care to prevent any Danger from thence: And the Gentlemen that serve for the said County are desired to go to the said Committee.

Irish Affairs.

A Letter from Dublyn, of Maii 31 1648, from Colonel Jones, was this Day read; with the Copies of other Letters and Papers.

A Letter from the Lord Inchequin to Colonel Jones, from Youghall, of the Second of May 1648, was read.

The Answer intended to the Lord Inchiquin's said Letter was likewise read; and, upon the Question, left to Colonel Jones; to do with the said Answer as he shall think good.

Resolved, &c. That there be no Cessation with the Rebels in Ireland.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be sent to Colonel Jones, from the House, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, taking notice of his good Service and Faithfulness to the Parliament: And that Mention be made, in the said Letter, of the Dislike of the Parliament to have any Cessation with the Irish Rebels: And that the House will take care to enable him to prosecute the War vigorously.

Sir John Temple and Sir Peter Wentworth are desired to prepare the said Letter.

Ordered, That the Letter from Colonel Jones, Governor of Dublyn, and the Papers inclosed, be referred to the Committee at Derby House.

The Letters and Papers were delivered to Sir John Temple.

Preacher appointed.

Ordered, That Mr. Vynes be desired to preach before the House of Commons the next Fast Day, in the place of Dr. Hill, who was formerly appointed to preach that Day; he having exeused himself.

Colonel Lee is desired to give Mr. Vines notice.

Militia.

Ordered, That the House do proceed in the Ordinance concerning the Militia of the whole Kingdom, on Monday Morning next, the first Business: And that Mr. Speaker do put the House in mind hereof.

Fee-farm Rents.

Ordered, That Mr. Lislibond Long do report the Ordinance, in his Hands, concerning Fee-farm Rents, on Saturday Morning next, come Sevennight, the first Business after the Ordinance concerning Sheriffs Accompts.

Commissary General in Ireland.

Sir John Temple reports a Proviso to be added to the Ordinance formerly read, touching Mr. William Hawkins to be Commissary General for Provisions for Ireland: The which Proviso was twice read; and, upon the Question, assented unto: And the Ordinance, upon the Question, passed.

Munster Officers.

The House proceeded to the Consideration of the Report formerly made, concerning the Munster Officers, that left the Lord Inchiquin, rather than engage and comply with him: The Accounts of which Officers are audited and stated, upon former Orders of this House to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at the Star Chamber. By which Report and Accompts so stated, there appears due, in the Whole, to the said respective Officers, the Sum of Twenty-seven thousand Five hundred Sixty-six Pounds Nineteen Shillings and Three-pence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow of the Sum of Twenty-seven thousand Five hundred Sixty-six Pounds Nineteen Shillings and Threepence to be due, in the Total, to the several Officers and Commanders of Munster, contained in the List reported from the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at... Star Chamber, for their respective personal Pay, due for their Service in the Province of Munster in Ireland.

Resolved, &c. That one Third Part of what is, by this Report, due to the particular Officers, mentioned in this Accompt, respectively, be respited, to answer any Surcharge which may be justly brought thereupon: And, if no Surcharge shall be brought within the Space of Two Years, That the said Third Part, or as much thereof as shall be then clear from any such Surcharge or Defalcation, may, after that time, be ordered to be paid them, in such Way as the House shall think meet.

Resolved, &c. That one other Third Part of what is, by this Report, due to the particular Officers, mentioned in this Accompt, respectively, be charged upon Lands in Ireland, after the Adventurers first satisfied.

Resolved, &c. That one other Third Part of what is, by this Report, due to the particular Officers, mentioned in this Accompt, respectively, be forthwith paid unto the said respective Officers, out of the Monies not engaged of the Brittish Assessments: And it is especially recommended, and referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, in the Star Chamber, to take effectual Course, That the said Third Parts to the said Officers, respectively, may be forthwith paid to the said respective Officers: And they are to confer with the Contractors herein; and desire their best Assistance: And that the other Two Third Parts, charged and respited as aforesaid, may be secured to them, in such Way, as the said Committee shall think fittest and best, for their Satisfaction.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, in the Star Chamber, to audite, state, and perfect the Accompts of Colonel Edmund Temple, Sir Wm. Fenton, and the rest of the Officers lately come out of the Province of Munster, in such Manner as those other Officers of Munster lately reported.

Hartnell's Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Captain Jasper Hartnell be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at the Star Chamber; to take effectual Course for some proportionable and seasonable Relief for him.

Letter from Wiltes.

Ordered, That the Letter from the Committee of Wiltes be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at the Star Chamber.

Business deferred.

Ordered, That, To-morrow, the Petitions of the Soldiery, in Sir Thomas Dacres' Hands, be reported the first Business: And that, next, the Ordinance, touching the Government of the Church, be read.

Saltpetre, &c.

Ordered, That on Monday Morning next, Sir Walter Erle do make his Reports, touching the Saltpetre, and furnishing the Stores.

Yarnmouth, &c.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, be sent to the Mayor and Magistrates of the Town of Yarnmouth, for their Faithfulness to the Parliament.

Mr. Corbett is desired to prepare the said Letter.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to consider of the Islands of Loveingland and Flegg, near unto Yarnmouth: And the Gentlemen of the County of Norfolk and Suffolk are desired to repair to the Committee at Derby House, to give their Advice touching the said Places.

Sussex Petition.

The House being informed, that divers Gentlemen of the County of Sussex were at the Door;

They were called in: And Sir Wm. Colepeper Baronet presented a Petition, in the Name of the Knights, Gentlemen, Clergy, and Commonalty, of the said County.

And, after they were withdrawn, the Petition, intituled, "The humble Petition of the Knights, Gentlemen, Clergy, and Commonalty, of the County of Sussex," was this Day read.

The Petitioners of the County of Sussex were again called in: And Mr. Speaker, by the Command of the House, acquainted them, That this House takes notice and approves of the Petitioners Conformity to their Declaration, in the peaceable Manner of their Address; And have under Consideration such Means as are most conducible to the speedy Settlement of the Peace of the Kingdom, and easing the Burdens of the People; and had, by God's Assistance, made a further Progress therein, had not some late Tumults and Commotions unhappily interrupted their Proceedings.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Examination of the Business concerning the Surrey Petitioners...... be revived; and do proceed in the taking the Examinations in that Business, and preparing the State of it, with all convenient Speed; to the end that Satisfaction may speedily be given therein to the Kingdom.

Sir Peter Wentworth, Sir Christofer Yelverton, Mr. Swinfen, Mr. John Stephens, Sir John Evelyn, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Tate, Mr. Annesley, Mr. Lisle;

The said Committee are presently to withdraw; and prepare an Answer to the Petition of the County of Sussex, to be delivered to the Petitioners by Mr. Speaker.

Answer to Surrey Petition.

It is further Ordered, That it be referred to this Committee, to prepare an Answer to the Surrey Petition, formerly presented; and to bring the same in To-morrow Morning.

Ly. Borlase's Claims.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at the Star Chamber, to take Order, that the Sum of Two hundred Pounds, formerly assigned to the Lady Borlase, as Part of the Pay due to Sir John Borlase, her Husband, may be paid unto her, out of the Brittish Assessments, after the Engagements already charged upon the said Assessments.

Parliament Guards.

Sir Wm. Armyn reports an Establishment for the Troop of Horse, consisting of One hundred, besides Officers, under the Command of Colonel Edward Rosseter, to be a Guard to the Parliament; and likewise the Charge of raising the said Horse: The which was read, and allowed, as followeth; viz.

The Officers Pay,

Ordered, That the Sum of Eight hundred Seventytwo Pounds, for the Bringing of Horse to be a Troop for the Guard of the Parliament, be charged upon the Receipts of the Grand Excise, in Course, with Interest for the same, payable every Six Months, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, formerly bequeathed to Mr. Speaker for the Use of the Publick, by Mr. Pepis, late Recorder of the Town of Cambridge, be employed towards making up of Three Months Pay for the Troop of Horse, to be raised for the Parliament's Guard, according to the Establishment aforesaid.

Ordered, That To-morrow Morning, the House do take into Consideration the Providing of Monies and Pay for the said Troop.

Goldsmiths Hall Reports.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning next, peremptorily, the Reports from Goldsmiths Hall be made.

Ordered, That the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall do make their Reports every Day from that Committee, till Ten of Clock, as formerly.

Sale of Bishops Lands.

Ordered, That, on Tuesday Morning next, the Ordinance concerning Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands be reported.

Invalid Soldiers.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee and Treasurers of Christ Church, to take care to provide for such wounded and maimed Soldiers as are now to repair to the Bathe, for Recovery of their Health.

Dean and Chapters Lands.

Ordered, That, on Friday Morning next, the Ordinance touching Dean and Chapters Lands be read.

Fast Day Collections.

Ordered, That the Moiety of the Collections that shall be made on the Fast Days, do go to the Poor of the Two Parishes of Margarett's and Martin's: And that the other Moiety of all the Collections on the Fast Days be paid to the Treasurers of Christ Church, for the Use and Benefit of the maimed and wounded Soldiers.

Business deferred.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Governor of Guernsey be read: And that the Report touching Banbury Castle be made To-morrow Morning.

Henchman's Claims.

Ordered, That Mr. Henchman be especially recommended to the Committee at Derby House: And that the said Committee do satisfy him what he is out of Purse: And, for his further Encouragement, that they bestow on him, what they think fit, for his Pains, both for the present and future Service, out of the Thousand Pounds formerly appointed to be disposed by that Committee, for satisfying such as should, from time to time, bring Intelligence.

Col. Pigott.

Ordered, That Colonel Pigott be referred to the Committee at Derby House; to take Consideration of the Matters informed against him; and to do with him as they shall see Cause, for his Enlargement, or longer Continuance under Restraint.
