PRAYERS.

Letter to Ireland.

A MESSAGE from the Lords, by Mr. Page and Dr. Aylett.

The Lords have sent unto you this Letter, to be sent into Ireland; with a Pass for the Bearer that is to carry it: They desire your Concurrence in it.

The Letter and Pass were read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and do agree to the Letter and Pass.

Publishing Libels, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Ball do, on Monday next, go to the Lords; and put the Lords in mind of the Ordinance for prohibiting the printing and venting Pamphlets, and scandalous Libels.

Obnoxious Publications.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Militia, forthwith to examine and find out, who were the Authors, Publishers, Printers, and Venders, of the Two Pamphlets; one intituled, "No Merlin nor Mercury; but a New Almanack, &c.; by Captain George Wharton, Student in Astronomy:" The other intituled, "Bellum Hibernicale; by Captain George Wharton, Student in Astronomy:" And that they do take effectual Course to seize and suppress the said Pamphlets; and to hinder and stop the Vending and Publishing of them. They are further to examine and inquire out the Information given to this House, concerning the Wardens of the Company of Stationers giving Money to one Gyles, to the Use of George Wharton, for the Copy of the said Pamphlets, and Almanack.

Guernsey.

Ordered, That, on Tuesday Morning next, the Reports be made, and the Ordinance read, concerning the Isle of Guernsey.

Irish Affairs.

Ordered, That, on Thursday Morning next, the Business concerning Ireland be taken into Consideration; and the Report in Mr. Robert Goodwyn's Hand, concerning Captain Campbell.

Violence to Parliament.

Mr. Miles Corbett proceeded in the Report from the Committee appointed to examine the Force and Violence upon the Houses; and reported the Examinations taken by the said Committee, concerning Colonel Lawrence Bromfield, Colonel Edward Hooker, Colonel John Bellamy, Mr. Williamson, Mr. Daniel Waldo, Mr. Edw. Water How, Captain John Jones.

Resolved, &c. That there appears Matter sufficient to accuse Colonel Lawrence Bromfield of High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And that he be impeached of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Lawrence Bromfield be forthwith committed Prisoner to the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, for High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And this in order to his Trial.

Resolved, &c. That there appears Matter sufficient to accuse Colonel Edward Hooker of High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And that he be impeached of High Crimes and Misdemeanors accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Edward Hooker be forthwith committed Prisoner to the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, for High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And this in order to his Trial.

The Question was propounded, That there appears Matter sufficient to accuse Captain John Jones of High Crimes and Misdemeanors; and that he be impeached of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, accordingly:

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

So that the Question passed with the Affirmative.

Resolved, &c. That there appears Matter sufficient to accuse Captain John Jones of High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And that he be impeached of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That Captain John Jones be forthwith committed Prisoner to the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, for High Crimes and Misdemeanors: And this in order to his Trial.

Resolved, &c. That Captain Musgrave be forthwith indicted, at the King's-bench Bar, of High Treason.

Ordered, That the Clerk of the Crown be required forthwith to prepare an Indictment against Captain Musgrave.

And it is referred to Mr. Solicitor, Mr. Miles Corbett, Mr. John Corbett, Mr. Selden, Mr. Ball, and Mr. Thomas Scott, to take Care, that the said Captain Musgrave be indicted of High Treason, accordingly: And that Mr. Beck be appointed Solicitor to follow this Business.

Whereas Captain Musgrave was by Order of the Committee appointed to examine the Business concerning the late Force and Violence upon the Houses, committed Prisoner to Newgate: The House doth approve of the said Commitment. And it is Ordered, That he the said Captain Musgrave be and do stand committed Prisoner to the Prison of Newgate, for High Treason: And This in order to his Tryal.

Post meridiem.

London Civil Government.

WHEREAS this House has thought fit to commit Sir John Gayer Knight, Mayor of the City of London, Prisoner to the Tower of London, for High Treason: It is Ordered, That the Aldermen now in Town do forthwith meet, and consider among themselves, and take care for the Civil Government of the City, according to the Charters, Custom or Usage, of the City, in like Cases.

And Mr. Alderman Atkin is appointed to take care to acquaint the said Aldermen with this Order; to the end they may forthwith meet to the Purposes aforesaid.

London, &c. Militia.

Ordered, That the several and respective Committees of the Militia of London, Westminster, Hamlets, and Tower, be hereby required and ordered to take especial Care to prevent all Distempers and Disturbances that may or shall arise in the City, and Places within their respective Jurisdictions.

Removing a Prisoner.

Resolved, &c. That David Jenkins Esquire, now a Prisoner in the Tower, be forthwith removed from thence, and committed Prisoner to the Prison of Newgate, for High Treason.

Cullum's Petition.

The humble Petition of Thomas Cullum, one of the Sheriffs of the City of London, was read.

Indicting Carill, &c.

Resolved, &c. That Thomas Carill, Bartholomew West, Richard Romney, Ralphe Hooker, John Milton junior, James Studley, Henry Coltherst, Richard Fortye, Mr. William Drake, * Brooke, Apprentice or Servant to Mr. Barker of Hellen's, John Hartley, and Daniell Hill, be forthwith indicted of High Treason at the King's Bench: And that their Indictment be prepared by the Clerk of the Crown. And the Care of this Business is referred to the same Committee as the Indictment of Captain Musgrave is referred: And Mr. Beck is likewise appointed Solicitor to follow this Business: And that they be apprehended by the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House; and be and stand committed to his Custody, for High Treason: And This, in order to their Tryals.

Resolved, &c. That Edmond Peisley junior be forthwith indicted of High Treason at the King's Bench: And that this Indictment be prepared by the Clerk of the Crown. And the Care of this Business is referred likewise to the Committee for the Indictment of Captain Musgrave: And that he be apprehended by the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, and be and stand committed to his Custody, for High Treason: And This in order to his Tryal.

Letter read.

Resolved, &c. That the Names put to the Letter sent to the Committee of Kent, dated from the Committee of the Militia of the City of London, and Lines of Communication, August the Second, 1647, shall be now read.

Bide's Impeachment.

The Question was propounded, That there appears Matter sufficient to accuse John Bide, Alderman of the City of London, of High Crimes and Misdemeanors; and that the said John Bide be impeached of High Crimes and Misdemeanors, accordingly:

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

Leave of Absence to

Ordered, That Major Thomas Scott a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country, for Recovery of his Health.

Reports, &c. deferred.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning, the first Business, the Reports concerning the Navy and Customs be made: And that, next after that Business, the House do resume the further Consideration of what they shall judge necessary to be sent to the King, for his Consent.
