Prayers.

Letter read.

A LETTER from Colonel John Birch, from Windsor, of 22 Junii, 1647, was this Day read: And

Letter to the General.

It is Ordered, That Mr. Ashhurst and Mr. Knightley do withdraw, and prepare a Letter, to be sent to the General, upon the Debate had in the House upon this Letter from Colonel Birch.

Representation from the Army.

According to former Order, the House resumed the further Consideration of the Representation from the Army.

Complaints against Members.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee where Mr. Bulkley hath the Chair, to receive the Informations or Complaints of any Person against any Member of this House, for Corruption, or Abuse to the State.

Message to Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewes carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Order for Twenty Pounds out of Haberdashers Hall, for Colonel General Poynts his Messenger: The Order for the Captain of Southsea Castle to receive Orders from the Lieutenant Governor of Portsmouth: The Order for setting apart the Sum of Forty thousand Pounds, Part of the Monies at Weavers Hall, for the sole Service of Ireland: The Order for Colonel General Poynts to give Orders to the Soldiers in the North, for the keeping them in Quiet: The Order that the Forces of the Northern Association shall have the same Terms upon Disbanding, or going for Ireland, as is voted for the Army, and the rest of the Forces of the Kingdom: And was to desire the Lords to expedite the Ordinance concerning the Threescore thousand Pounds, monthly to be raised.

Letter to the General.

Mr. Ashhurst reports the Draught of a Letter to be sent to the General, upon Occasion of Colonel John Birche's Letter: The which was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be signed by Mr. Speaker, and presently sent away to the General.

Answer from Lords.

Sir William Lewes brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to all the Orders carried by him, for their Concurrence: And, as to the Ordinance concerning the monthly Sum of Sixty thousand Pounds, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Letter concerning the Eleven Members.

Mr. Samuell Browne, Mr. Maynard, and Mr. Whitelock, are appointed to withdraw presently, to prepare a Letter upon the Debate of the House to be sent to the General, concerning the Eleven Members mentioned in some Papers formerly sent from the Army.

The House adjourned itself till Two of Clock in the Afternoon.

Writs of Habeas Corpus.

ORDERED, &c. That the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, or any Keeper of any other Prison, shall, upon such Writs of Habeas Corpus as they shall receive, make Returns of the Bodies of the Prisoners, together with the Cause of their Detention: And that the Judges that shall remove or commit any Prisoners, upon Returns of such Writs of Habeas Corpus, do take care, that Notice be given to this House, before any Prisoners, committed by this House, be either bailed or discharged.

Goodwyn's Petition.

Ordered, &c. That the Petition of Ralse Goodwyn Clerk be referred to the Examination and Consideration of the Committee of Complaints.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, &c. That Mr. Maurice Berrowe, a Member of this House, shall have the Leave of the House to go into the Country.

Weavers Company.

Ordered, &c. That the Committee appointed to consider of the Petition of the Weavers shall have Power, any Five of them, to meet upon the said Petition de die in diem.

Letter concerning the Eleven Members.

Mr. Samuell Browne reports the Draught of a Letter to be sent to the Commissioners of the Army, upon the Occasion of the Paper of Charge from the Army, against Eleven Members of this House: The which was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be signed by Mr. Speaker, and forthwith sent to the Commissioners.

Representation from the Army.

According to Order, the House proceeded in the Consideration of the Third Proposal to the Representation sent from the Army.

The Question was propounded, That the Third Proposition shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning, the first Business:

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put;

It passed with the Negative.

The Question was propounded, For the Fourth Proposition shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning, the first Business:

And the Question being put, Whether this Question shall be now put:

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Fifth Proposition in the Representation sent from the Army shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning, the first Business: And that no other Business do intervene.

Reduced Officers, &c.

Upon the humble Petition of the reduced Officers and Soldiers, whose Accompts remain with the Committee of the Military Garden;

It is Ordered, That the Treasurers at Christ Church, out of the Monies assigned by former Order, for the Payment of the Soldiery that shall remain after the Payment of a Month's Pay to the said Soldiers, according to the said former Orders, do pay unto the Petitioners a Month's Pay, as unto others, upon their Arrears of Pay, entered upon the former Lists remaining with the said Committee of the Military Garden, as aforesaid.
