Prayers.

Leave of Absence.

ORDERED, &c. That Mr. Berwyse, a Member of this House shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered. That Mr. Nutt, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ministers of Religion.

Ordered, That on Friday next peremptorily, the first Business, the Ordinance for providing Maintenance for the Ministry of this Kingdom be reported; and that no other Business do intervene.

Articles of Truro.

According to former Order, the House fell into Consideration of the Articles of Truro, and of the Persons concerned therein.

Resolved, &c. That all such Persons as the General hath recommended in several Letters to the Speaker, to have Favour in their Composition, upon the Articles of Truro, shall be compounded with at Two Years full Value of their Estates, as they bore Value before the Year 1640, of what Condition soever their Estates be (except Papists in Arms, and all such as have had their Hands in the Rebellion of Ireland); provided, that they make their Compositions before the Twenty-fourth of June next; and that they submit to pay their Fifth, and Twentieth Part.

Propositions to the King.

According to former Order, the Propositions to be tendered to the King were brought in by the Committee; and were read.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee that brought in these Propositions, to consider of some necessary Alterations to be made, according to the Debate had in the House, in relation to such Persons with whom the House has compounded, or pardoned: And that the Members of this House that are of the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall, be added to this Committee as to this Business: And they, or any Five of them, shall have Power to meet, and are to meet upon it this Afternoon, at two of Clock, in the Queen's Court; and so de die in diem: And that they bring in their Report on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business.

Buckingham Arrears.

Mr. West brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Ordinance carried by him, concerning the Levying of the latter Moiety of the Bill of Four hundred thousand Pounds, uncollected, in the County of Buck'.

Irish Affairs.

According to the Order Yesterday made, the House resumed the Consideration of the Report Yesterday made by Mr. Holles, from the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland at Derby House, concerning some Letters that Committee received from the Commissioners in the Army.

And the Letter from the Commissioners, from Saffron Walden, of 19 Aprilis 1647, was again this Day read.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Holles went to the Lords, with the Message appointed Yesterday, all but the Order concerning the Messengers that attended the Committee of both Kingdoms.

He further carried the Order for Payment of Four thousand Pounds to William Sykes, of Hull, Merchant, upon Account, in Part of a greater Debt, out of Goldsmiths Hall, in Course, with Interest for the Forbearance: The Votes for giving Power to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland at Derby House, to grant Commission to the Officers in a List returned from Colonel Mitton: The Ordinance for continuing the Duty for Redemption of Captives.

Obnoxious Publications.

Resolved, &c. That the Consideration of these Papers, intituled, one, "A new-found Stratagem, framed in the old Forge of Machiavelism, and put upon the Inhabitants of the County of Essex, &c.;" the other, intituled, "An Apology of the Soldiery to their Commissioner Officers;" be referred to the Committee following; to examine and find out the Authors, Inventors, Contrivers, Publishers, and Dispersers of these Papers; and how, and by what Hands, and to what Ends, they were dispersed and sent down to the Army; viz.

Mr. Holles, Sir Robert Harley, Sir John Evelyn of Surrey, Sir John Maynard, Sir John Evelyn of Wiltes, Colonel Ireton, Lieutenant General Cromwell, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Bond, Mr. Walter Long, Mr. Prideaux, Colonel Rainsborough, Sir Wm. Lewes, Mr. Hoskins, Colonel Popham, Mr. Nicoll, Colonel Leigh, Mr. Strode, Colonel Thompson, Colonel Ven, Sir Arthur Hesilrige, Mr. Christofer Marten, Mr. Henry Marten, Colonel Temple, Mr. Grimston, Sir Phil. Stapilton, Mr. Cary, Mr. Thistlethwayte, Mr. Boone, Sir Robert Needham, Mr. Gerard, Mr. West, Mr. Weaver, Sir Wm. Constable, Mr. Hay, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Peck: And are to meet upon it on Tuesday next, at Two post meridiem, in the Exchequer Chamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records.

Impeachment of Jenkins.

Resolved, &c. That a printed Paper, intituled, "A Recantation of Judge Jenkins," be referred to the Consideration of the Committee, formerly appointed to prepare an Impeachment against Mr. David Jenkins; to consider, who was the Printer and Publisher of it: They are likewise further to consider and prepare the said Impeachment against the said David Jenkins; and to bring it in on Tuesday next come Sevennight, peremptorily: And that Mr. Grimston be added to this Committee: And the more particular Care of this Business is referred to Mr. Grimston and Mr. Whittacre.

Delinquent Ministers.

Ordered, That the Committee for plundered Ministers do send for Dr. Soame and Dr. Sherwood, against whom Informations have been given to the House, That they have lately preached in some Churches in London, being Delinquents that have adhered to the Enemies of the Parliament: And that they do enjoin them not to preach: And that, according to former Power given to that Committee, by an Order of 15 Martii 1646, they do take Course to prevent and hinder the Preaching of all such Persons, who are in the like Condition of Delinquency and Disaffection to the Parliament.

Scandal.

Ordered, That the Committee, appointed to judge of Scandal, do meet To-morrow in the Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber.

Army.

Ordered, That the Debate of this whole Business, concerning the Report made from the Commissioners employed to the Army, be resumed into Consideration on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business; notwithstanding any former Order: And no other Business to intervene.

Ministers of Religion.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for maintaining a Preaching Ministry, appointed for Tuesday next, be adjourned to Thursday next.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Aylett and Mr. Sadler;

The Lords have commanded us to put you in mind of the Lord Viscount Herefford's Petition, formerly sent from them, concerning the Reparations of his Lordship's Losses, out of the Estates of Sir Wm. Russell, Sir John Packington, and others mentioned in the said Petition: They have returned the Votes upon the Proposition of borrowing Two hundred thousand Pounds; with some Alterations and Additions; in which the Lords desire the Concurrence of this House: A Report from the Committee of the Admiralty, touching the Jurisdiction of the Admiralty: A Letter from the Scotts Commissioners: And that the Lords have appointed their Committee to meet To-morrow at Three post meridiem; and desire, That the Members of this House, of that Committee, may then meet: They have returned Mrs. Burghill's Ordinance, with some Alterations; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House: An Ordinance for constituting and appointing Mr. Richard Ward Rector of Upton upon Severne in the County of Worcester.

Lord Herefford.

The Question being put, Whether the Petition of the Lord Viscount Herefford, sent from the Lords, shall be read on Wednesday next come Sevennight;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That, on this Day Fortnight, the Petition of the Lord Viscount Herefford be taken into Consideration.

Private Business.

Ordered, That, on the same Day, the private Businesses, appointed formerly for Tuesday next, be taken into Consideration.

Loan from the City.

The Additions and Alterations, sent from the Lords, to the Votes upon the Proposition for borrowing the Sum of Two hundred thousand Pounds, were read: And

It is Resolved, &c. That, to the First Alteration desired to be added, in the Second Line; this House doth agree: viz. to the Addition of these Words, "as well Citizens as others:"

That, to the Second Resolution, concerning such Sums as are desired to be secured upon this Proposition; this House doth adhere to that whole Resolution, as it was sent from hence:

That, to the Fifth Resolution, concerning the Lands and Estates of Papists in Arms to be given in Security, this House doth adhere to that Fifth Resolution, as it was sent from hence.

The Question being put, Whether this House would concur with the Lords, That the whole Compositions at Goldsmiths Hall, in Course, be added to this Security;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree to the Eighth Resolution, as it is altered by the Lords.

And then it runs thus; viz.

"That a Committee of Citizens and others, being Adventurers for Ireland, may be chosen among themselves; whose Names are to be presented to both Houses: And that they may be heard, and those Things which they shall offer be considered of, by such Committee of Parliament as shall be appointed for providing Necessaries for Ireland; to the end that may be done to the best Advantage for the Service of that Kingdom."

Conference desired with Lords.

Ordered, That a Conference be desired with the Lords, on Tuesday Morning next; and these Resolutions of this House communicated at the said Conference; and Reasons delivered for the Enforcing of them.

Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Prydeaux, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Salwey, Mr. John Stephens, Mr. Scott, are appointed to prepare Reasons; and to manage this Conference.

Admiralty.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Admiralty and Cinque Ports, to prepare and bring in an Ordinance for settling the Jurisdiction of the Court of Admiralty: And all the Lawyers of the House are added to the Committee, as to this Business: And are required to attend; and to give their best Assistance to this Service.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers: That this House has considered their Lordships Message: And, as to the Ordinance concerning Mrs. Burghill, they do agree: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Isle of Jersey.

Sir Gilbert Gerard reported from the Committee to whom the Consideration of the Isle of Jersey was referred, Two Propositions; one made by Colonel Rainsborough, for reducing the said Isle; and another by Colonel Lidcott, for the Raising and Maintaining of Men, for the Reducing of the said Island of Jersey: The which were read.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow and approve of the Propositions made by Colonel Rainsborough, for taking in and reducing the Isle of Jersey.

Resolved, &c. That Two Months Arrears, and a Month's Advance, be provided and furnished for Colonel Rainsboroughe's Men: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider, How these Three Months Arrears and Advance may be speedily furnished.

It is further Resolved, That a Month's Pay, in Provision of Victuals, be likewise furnished for the Use of these Men, to be deducted out of their future Pay, if they shall make use of them: And it is referred likewise to the Committee of the Navy, to provide Monies for Making of these Provisions: And they have Power to use their Interest, and best Endeavour, to borrow these Monies upon any such Security as they shall think fit, that will furnish these Monies and Provisions so speedily and certainly as may answer the instant Necessity of this Occasion.

It is further referred to the Committee of the Navy, to furnish all Provisions of War, Ammunition, and Guns, as are proposed and desired by Colonel Rainsborough, as necessary for this Service; and to give Order, and take care, that such Vessels and Shipping for Transport of the Forces, and other necessary Occasions conducing to this Service, may be appointed and fitted ready for this Service, according as is propounded by Colonel Rainsborough: And they are to report their Proceedings herein on Tuesday Morning next.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Admiralty and Navy, to take care that Ships may lie upon the Coasts between France and Ireland, to prevent the Landing of Men or Ammunition upon the Coasts of Ireland.

Ordered, That Colonel Rainsborough do forthwith advance, with his Men, to the Sea-side. And whereas his Men have received Three Weeks Pay; out of which they are to pay Three Weeks Quarters, where they now are: It is Ordered, That they take the whole Three Weeks Pay with them, to pay their Quarters on their March to the Sea's Side; and leave Tickets for Payment of their Quarters where they now are, out of their Arrears.

Coinage.

Ordered, That the Ordinance, sent from the Lords, concerning Clipping and Falsifying of Coin, be read on Thursday next.

London Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition, read on the Twentieth of March last, from divers Citizens of London; and the Certificate annexed; to the Committee where Colonel Liegh has the Chair; be taken into Consideration on this Day Sevennight.

According to former Order, the House adjourned to Tuesday Morning next, at Eight of Clock.
