Prayers.

Army Pay, &c.

RESOLVED, &c. That the Pay of such Commanders and Officers as shall be employed in the Service of Ireland, shall be higher than such as shall be employed in England.

Resolved, &c. That no Governor of any Garison, Fort, or Castle, appointed to be kept in this Kingdom, that shall not have above Two Hundred Men under his Command, shall have above the Pay of a Captain, according to the Establishment as shall be hereafter made.

Resolved, &c. That such Proportions of the Commanders and Officers Entertainment, employed in the Service of Ireland, as shall be respited upon the Publick Faith, shall be paid in Land in Ireland, according to such Proportions as the Adventurers are to have; the Adventurers being first satisfied.

Great Seal.

Mr. Scott reports the Amendments to the Ordinance re-committed, concerning the Great Seal: The which were read the First and Second time.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Dr. Aylett;

The Lords have commanded us to let you know, That the Lords have added Six of their Lordships to the Committee of Irish Affairs, sitting at Derby House, as this House desired; viz. The Earl of Lincolne, Earl of Suffoulke, Earl of Middlesex, Lord Dacres, Lord Willoughby, Lord Maynard: They desire a Conference, by Committees of both Houses, concerning the Ordinance for putting down the Country Committees; and likewise concerning the Ordinance for regulating the University of Oxon; this Morning at Ten of Clock, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House:- To deliver this Ordinance, for Mr. Thomas Palmer to be Rector of the Rectory of Aston in the County of Derby; wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House:- This Petition of Judith Richardson, Widow; which the Lords do especially recommend unto this House.

Army Establishments.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House to prepare Establishments for the Forces, both of England and Ireland, respectively: And that the Members of this House, that are of the Committee of the Army, be joined to this Committee, as to these Establishments; together with the Addition of Mr. Swinfen, Colonel Rosseter, Captain Wingate, Mr. West, Dr. Bond, Sir John Merrick, Mr. Arundell: And they are to meet this Afternoon; and to bring it in on Tuesday Morning next: And the more particular Care of this Business is referred to Mr. Swinfen and Mr. Scawen.

Great Seal.

Resolved, &c. That the Custody of the Great Seal of England shall be continued in the Hands of the same Commissioners as now it is, for Twenty Days longer, after the Expiration of the Time it is now continued for: and likewise the Commission for hearing Causes in Chancery.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Commissions for Ireland.

Resolved, &c. That Power be given to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland at Derby House, to give Commissions, from time to time, as Occasion shall require for the Service of Ireland, to such Officers and Commanders as are or shall be approved for that Service by both Houses of Parliament.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Message to Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewes carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for a Monthly Assessment of Sixty thousand Pounds: The Ordinance for Colonel Jones to be Governor of Dublyn: The Ordinance concerning the Continuance of the Great Seal, and Commission for hearing Causes in Chancery, in the same Hands it now is, for Twenty Days longer: The Two Contracts made, one with Mr. Davies, the other with John Cheston, and others, for Provisions for Ireland: . . Order for Power to be given to the Committee at Derby House, for the Affairs of Ireland, to grant Commissions for the Service of Ireland: An Order for Twenty Pounds to Captain Errington, out of Haberdashers Hall: An Order for Interest for Twelve thousand Pounds, formerly granted the reduced Officers, out of Goldsmiths Hall.

Church Government.

Ordered, &c. That, on Tuesday next come Sevennight, the first Business, the House do take into Consideration the whole Business of the Church: And that they do proceed in the Business concerning the Church, and settling of godly and able Ministers, for Fourteen Sitting Days, together: And that for the said Space of Fourteen Days, no other Business be admitted to Debate, except it do concern the Forces to be sent to Ireland; the Army of England, and Forces to be kept up here; the Great Seal; the Propositions; and the Matter of Money.

Richardson's Petition.

Ordered, &c. That, when the Time for excluding private Business shall be out, the Petition of Mrs. Judith Richardson shall be read.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewes brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to all the Votes, Orders, and Ordinances, carried by him, except that Ordinance for the Monthly Assessment of Sixty thousand Pounds: To which they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Ministers of Religion.

Ordered, &c. That the Names of such Ministers as are sent from the Lords, in Ordinances, to be put into Livings, be sent unto the Assembly of Divines; to the end they may certify to the House their Knowledge of their Abilities, and Fitness for such Charges.

Reduced Officers.

Ordered, &c. That on Tuesday Morning next, the Petition of reduced Officers, delivered in by Sir Philip Stapleton, be read.

Poor, &c.

Ordered, &c. That, on Thursday Morning next, the Ordinance for relieving and setting on Work poor People, and Punishing of vagrant Persons, be read.

Irish Affairs.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree, That these Lords be added to the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House.

Conference agreed to.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree to a Conference with the Lords, as is desired, To-day at Ten of Clock.

Aston Rectory.

The Ordinance, sent from the Lords, for making Mr. Thomas Palmer Rector of the Rectory of Aston in the County of Derby, was this Day read the First time; and nothing more done upon it at this time.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Serjeant Finche and Dr. Aylett;

The Lords have received a Petition from a Company of poor Widows: Which they recommend unto your Consideration. They have received a Petition from divers Tenants of Dr. Juxon, late Bishop of London: They desire the House will join with the Lords, to think of some Course to relieve the said Tenants, according to the Prayer of their Petition; which their Lordships think very reasonable, and fit to be granted: And, . . that End, they have appointed a Committee of Nine, and desire the House of Commons will appoint a proportionable Number, to consider of the Premises accordingly. They have likewise sent you an Ordinance for the Appointing of Mr. Reuben * to be Rector of Haughton in the Spring in the County Palatine of Durham: In which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Soldiers Widows.

The humble Petition of divers distressed Widows, whose Names are underwritten, whose Husbands have died in the Parliament's Service, was this Day read.

And Mr. Speaker informed the House of the Necessities and Desires of the said Petitioners.

It is thereupon Ordered, by the Commons, assembled in Parliament, That the said Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Treasurers at Christ Church: Who are to certify the Matter of Fact, concerning the Suggestion in the Petition; and whether the Petitioners be within their Instructions; and what may be done for their speedy Relief.

Invalid Soldiers.

Resolved, &c. That the weekly Sum of Fifty Pounds be charged upon the Receipts of the Excise, for the Relief of the maimed Soldiers, more than what is already charged upon the said Receipts for that Purpose, and paid weekly to the Treasurers at Christ Church, to be issued by the said Treasurers, according to such Instructions as they have, or shall, from time to time, receive from the Committee for maimed Soldiers: And that an Ordinance be brought in to this Purpose.

Mr. Richard Sallway is to prepare this Ordinance.

Ordered, &c. That such wounded and maimed Soldiers as shall have Certificates from the Physician, that it is necessary, for their Recovery, to go to the Bathe, shall have Passes from Mr. Speaker to go: And shall have a competent Allowance for their Conveyance thither, and Maintenance there, paid by the Treasurers, upon Order of the Committee.

Dr. Juxon's Tenants.

Ordered, &c. That the Petition of divers Tenants of Dr. Juxon, late Bishop of London; and the Message from the Lords concerning it; be taken into Consideration on Tuesday Morning next.

Memorandum, Sir Simonds D'Ewes delivered in likewise a Petition from the said Tenants.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the First Messengers; That, to the Addition of the Lords for the Affairs Ireland, at Derby House; and to the Conference; this House does agree: To the rest, They will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Answer returned by the Second Messengers; That this House hath considered their Lordships Message; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Payment to Ld. Ormond.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, assembled in Parliament, That the Commissioners at Goldsmiths Hall may confer with the Treasurers there, as they see Cause, to give them Order to furnish, by way of Exchange, payable in Amsterdam in Holland, the Sum of Ten thousand Eight hundred and Seventy-seven Pounds Fourteen Shillings and Nine-pence, formerly charged upon that Treasury, by an Ordinance of the 23th of February last, for the Use of the Lord of Ormond: And that the said Commissioners have Power to make such Allowance as they shall find necessary to effect the same: And that they do give Order to the Treasurers to make Payment of the same accordingly.

Birche's Regiment.

According to the Report from the Committee for Ireland, at Derby House, the Gentlemen of Herefordshire were put in mind of providing and making ready the Money for Colonel Birche's Regiment, that the Service of Ireland might not be retarded. Sir Robert Harley did thereupon inform the House, that all the Care, that could, had been used for procuring of it, either here or in the Country.

Great Seal.

Ordered, &c. That, on Tuesday next, after the Business of the Proportions shall be determined, the House do proceed in the Report of the Amendments to the Ordinance concerning the Great Seal, this Day made by Mr. Scott.

Forces for Ireland.

Whereas the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House, had, by former Order, Power given them to draw the Forces of the Army, that shall engage to go for Ireland into a Body, from the rest of the Army: It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, That the said Committee shall have further Power to dispose these Forces into Regiments, or otherwise, as shall be most convenient for the Advantage of that Service.

Irish Affairs.

A Letter from Major Monro, and the other Officers and Commanders of the Scotts Forces in Ulster in Ireland, was this Day read. And

It is Ordered to be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Affairs of Ireland, at Derby House: Who are to report their Opinions, What is fit to be done upon it to the House.

Conference.

Mr. Rowse, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Bainton, Mr. Strode, Mr. Samuell Browne, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

According to former Order, the House adjourned itself till Tuesday Morning next, at Eight of Clock.
