The Covenant.

RESOLVED, &c. That the Covenant be tendered to the Members of the House, that have not taken it, on Monday Morning next, the first Business.

Meeting of Essex Grand Jury, &c.

Whereas the House is informed, by a Report from the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, that there is a Meeting of the Grand Jury, and some Thousands of the Freeholders, and other Inhabitants, of the County of Essex intended at Stratford Langthorne in the said County, on Thursday the Fourth Day of May next: This House doth Declare, That such Meetings, in so great Numbers, are very prejudicial to the Peace of the Kingdom, in these distracted and tumultuous Times: And do Order, That the said Grand Jury, Freeholders, and other Inhabitants, of the said County, do forbear to meet as aforesaid; and that the Committees and other Officers, of the said County do cause this Order to be forthwith published in every Market Town in the said County: And do Order, That the Members of this House which do serve for or are of the said County do send this Order forthwith to the said Committee, or other Officers of the said County, to be put in speedy Execution accordingly.

The House doth further Declare, That if the said County have any thing to represent to the House, that they send it to the Members that serve for their County: And the House will give such Answer thereunto, as shall be just; ever remembering the good Affections testified by the said County to the good of this Parliament and Kingdom.

Settling the Government.

The Question was propounded, That the House doth declare, that they will not alter the fundamental Government of the Kingdom, by King, Lords, and Commons:

And the Question being put, Whether this Word, "will," shall be in the Question;

The House was divided.

The Question being put, That these Words, "the Matter of," shall be added to the Question under Debate in the Beginning of it;

The Question being propounded, That Leave be given to any Members of the House, in Debate of the Settlement of the Kingdom, to propound any thing for the same, notwithstanding the Votes of the Third of January;

And the Question being put, Whether this Question be now put;
