PRAYERS.

The King's Arrival at the Isle of Wight.

ORDERED, That the Orders for shutting the Ports, and Staying of Ships be discharged and repealed: And that the Committee of the Admiralty and Cinque Ports do write Letters and give Order, accordingly, for freeing the Ports, and discharging the Order of staying the Ships.

A Letter from Captain Baskett, from Cowes Castle, of 13 Novembris; and a Letter likewise from Colonel Robert Hamond, Governor of the Isle of Wight, from Cowes, of 13 Novembris, signifying, That the King is come into the Isle of Wight, were both read.

The Letter from Captain Baskett is appointed to be kept safe by Mr. Speaker.

Resolved, &c. That this Letter from Colonel Robert Hammond be communicated unto the Lords: And the Lords desired, That a Committee of both Houses may be appointed to consider, What may be fit to be done in relation to the King; and what Directions may be fit to be given to Colonel Hammond, to be observed by him in this Business concerning the King.

Sir John Evelyn is appointed to go with this Message.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of Ten Pounds be bestowed upon the Messenger that brought the Letter from Captain Baskett: And that the said Ten Pounds be forthwith paid unto him, by the Committee of the Revenue.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of Twenty Pounds be bestowed upon Captain Rolfe, that brought the Letter from the Governor of the Isle of Wight, directed to Mr. Speaker: And that the Committee of the Revenue do forthwith pay the said Sum of Twenty Pounds unto the said Captain Rolfe.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. John Ashburnham, Sir John Barkley, and Colonel William Legge, be forthwith sent for, as Delinquents, by the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House: And that Colonel Robert Hamond, Governor of the Isle of Wight, do give his best Assistance to the Serjeant's Deputies, for the sending up the said Persons accordingly.

Sir John Evelyn brings Answer, That the Lords have appointed a Committee of Fourteen, and Three of the Quorum, to consider, What is fit to be done in relation to the Security and Safety of the King's Person; and what Directions are fit to be given to Colonel Hammond, in reference to this Business concerning the King: To meet this Afternoon at Three of Clock, in the Prince's Lodgings.

Sir Henry Vane, Sir John Evelyn of Wiltes, Mr. Pierepoint, Sir Dudley North, Mr. Reynolds, Colonel Birch, Colonel Bowyer, Sir Gilbert Gerard, Mr. Crew, Mr. Swynfen, Mr. Lisle, Sir Walter Erle, Colonel Morley, Sir Wm. Massam, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Tate, Mr. Annesley, Sir James Harrington, Sir Arthur Hesilrige, Mr. John Goodwyn, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Whittacre, Sir John Hippisley, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Grimston, Sir Robert Pye, Mr. Cary, Lord Fairefax;

This Committee, or any Six of them, are appointed to meet with a Committee of a proportionable Number of the Lords this Afternoon at Three of Clock, in the Prince's Lodgings; to consider, What is fit to be done in relation to the Safety and Security of the Person of the King; and what Directions are fit to be given to Colonel Robert Hammond, Governor of the Isle of Wight, in reference to this Business concerning the King.

Ordered, That the Report of the Ordinance for Employment of poor People be made on Thursday next, immediately after the Reports of Goldsmiths Hall: And that Mr. Speaker do put the House . . mind hereof.

Dispersion of certain Papers.

Ordered, That the Papers this Day delivered in to the House, endeavoured to be delivered to divers Ministers, Yesterday in their Pulpits, be referred to the Examination of the Committee of Complaints; to examine the whole Business.

Scotts Commissioners, &c.

Mr. Pierpoint reports from the Committee at Derby House, a Paper of 11 Novembris 1647, signed John Cheeslie; That the Scotts Commissioners will take into Consideration the Propositions delivered unto them: In the mean time, they desire an Answer from both Houses to their Letter of the Fifth of this Instant.

The said Letter from the Scotts Commissioners of 5 Novembris, was this Day again read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of this House, that are of the Committee of both Kingdoms, to consider, What this House has formerly done, and how far they are engaged, touching the Particulars of the Letter from the Scotts Commissioners, of 5 Novembris 1647; and, in pursuance thereof, to frame an Answer to the said Letter: And are to meet upon it this Afternoon; and to report it To-morrow Morning: And the Care of this Business is more particularly referred to Sir Arthur Hesilrige, and Mr. Pierepoint.

Ordered, That the Information this Day given in, concerning Colonel Wemmes, be referred to the Examination of the Committee of Complaints; to examine the Business.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Luke Hodges, a Member of this House, shall have Liberty to go into the Country, for Recovery of his Health.

Free Quarter.

The humble Petition of the Mayor and Burgesses of Newcastle upon Tyne, desiring Relief, in respect of their Suffering by Billet and Free Quarter, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That when the House doth consider of providing Pay for the Army, that the House do take this Petition into Consideration.
