Die Mercurii, 30 Junii, 1647. Die Publicæ Humiliationis.

Preacher thanked.

ORDERED, That Mr. Dove, do from this House, give Thanks unto Mr. Manton, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached on this Day at Margrett's, Westminster, before the House of Commons, it being a Day of Publick Humiliation: And that he do desire him to print his Sermon: Wherein he is to have the like Privilege in Printing thereof, as others in the like kind usually have had.

Preachers appointed.

Ordered, That Mr. Rous do from this House, desire Mr. Whitchcott to preach before the House of Commons, at Margarett's, Westminster, on the next monthly Fast Day.

Ordered, That Mr. Francis Allen do, from this House, desire Mr. Jaggard to preach before the House of Commons, at Margarett's Westminster, on the next monthly Fast Day.

Lord's Day, &c.

Ordered, That the Lord Mayor and Justices of Peace, within the City of London and Liberties, the Justices of Peace of Middlesex and Westminster, and the Justices of Peace of the County of Surrey, be hereby strictly enjoined and required to take the severest Order, that the Lord's Day, and the Days of Publick Humiliation, may be duly observed: And that the Laws and Ordinances for the due Observation of the said Days may be put in full Execution; and the Penalties appointed by the said Laws and Ordinances duly and truly levied.

Mr. Ball, Mr. Dodderiche, and Mr. Knightley, are appointed to consider wherein the Laws and Ordinances appointed for the due Observation of the Lord's Day, and Days of Publick Humiliation, are defective; and to make some effectual Provision, by way of Ordinance, whereby those Days may be more duly observed.

Torrington Church.

Ordered, That Mr. Dodderiche do bring in an Ordinance for re-edifying the Church of Torrington in the County of Devon: And that it be referred to the Knights and Burgesses of Devon, to prepare a Way that this may be done.

Committee for Accommodation.

Resolved, &c. That there be a Committee of Members of this House appointed to nominate such Persons as they shall think of Piety, Moderation, and Learning, to be propounded to the House for their Approbation: Who shall have Power to take into Consideration Heads of an Accommodation, to be propounded afterwards to the Consideration of the House.

Mr. Rous, Mr. Ashhurst, Mr. John Gourdon, Mr. Bulkeley, Sir Gilbert Gerard, Mr. Sallwey senior, Mr. Sam. Browne, Colonel Leigh, Sir Wm. Strickland, Mr. West;

This Committee, or any Five of them, is appointed to nominate such Persons as they shall think fit, of Moderation, Piety, and Learning, to be propounded to the House for their Approbation: Who shall have Power to take into Consideration Heads of an Accommodation, to be propounded afterwards to the Consideration of the House: And are to meet To-morrow at Seven of Clock, in the Court of Wards; and so de die in diem, as they shall think fit: And the Care of this Business is more particularly referred to Mr. Rous.

Ministers of Religion.

Ordered, That Mr. Bois be added to the Committee of plundered Ministers.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to Sir Wm. Massam, Mr. Gourdon, and Mr. Bois, to make Inquiry, What Ministers have, by the Committee of plundered Ministers, been admitted into any Living, contrary to the Orders of this House; who have been formerly sequestered: And that they do report the Names of such to the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Miles Corbett do, on Saturday next, the first Business, report the Ordinance for keeping Delinquent Ministers out of their Livings.
