Prayers.

ORdered, That Mr. Walter Long, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, That, on Friday Morning next, the first Business, the House do proceed in the Debate of the Ordinance concerning the East-India Company; and, after That, do take into Consideration the Business concerning the Navy and Trade.

An Ordinance for appointing the Sale of the Bishops Lands, for the Use of the Commonwealth, was this Day read the First and Second time: And,

Upon the Question, Resolved, &c. That it be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

The Question was propounded, Whether the Grand Committee shall meet, upon this Ordinance, To-morrow Morning at Eight of the Clock, the first Business:

And the Question being put, Whether the Question shall be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And thereupon it is Resolved, &c. That the Grand Committee of the whole House do meet, upon the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands, To-morrow Morning at Eight of the Clock, the first Business.

A Proviso, concerning Ely-House to be added to the said Ordinance, was twice read; and ordered to be Committed, together with the said Ordinance.

The humble Petition of Henry Elsynge, Clerk to this House, was read: And

Ordered, That it be referred to the Grand Committee of the House, upon the Ordinance for Sale of Bishops Lands; to consider of the Necessity of the Place petitioned for: And, in case they find the Place necessary, the House doth especially recommend Mr. Elsynge to be by them represented to the House to have the said Place.

Ordered, That Herefordshire Petition be read on Wednesday next, the first Business, after Mr. Speaker shall come to the Chair.

Ordered, That the Business of Abbingdon be taken into Consideration on Friday Morning next.

Mr. Lisle reports the Opinion of the Lords, delivered at the late Conference concerning the Great Seal: The which, he faith, the Earl of Manchester delivered in Writing; and was there read by him; and here by the Reporter, and by the Clerk; and was in hæc verba; viz.

That the Lords did send an Ordinance to the House of Commons, on the Fourth of September last past, concerning the Great Seal of England; the Dispatch of which they looked upon as a Matter of Importance: That they did not hear from the House of Commons until the Fourteenth of October instant: The Lords find therein divers Alterations; as, omitting the Names of such as they had appointed Commissioners, without any Cause alleged, they being, in their Lordships Judgments, fit for that Employment: Yet, to shew how forward they are to dispatch this Affair, they have, with Adhering to the Persons formerly named by them, added those that are desired by that House: As to the first Proviso, added by that House, the Lords do not agree; there being no Cause to put such an Incapacity upon them: As to the latter Proviso, the Lords do agree: And, having thus far shewed their Diligence for the Concluding of this Business, they hope no further Delay will be therein; but that the Course of Justice may speedily be administred by that Seal, according to the Expectation of the Kingdom.

The Question being put, Whether this House will agree with the Lords in their Alterations, delivered at the late Conference, to the Ordinance concerning the Great Seal;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth adhere to the Ordinance, amended, as it went from this House: And that a Committee be appointed to prepare Reasons to be offered, at a Conference, to the Lords, to express why this House cannot agree with the Lords; and why this House doth adhere to the Ordinance, amended, as it went from hence.

It is further Ordered, That a Conference be desired with the Lords, To-morrow Morning, upon this Business.

Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Marten, Mr. Holles, Sir John Evelyn, Mr. Thorpe, Mr. Bond, Mr. Crewe, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Whitelock, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Tate, are appointed to be this Committee: And are to meet upon it, in the Queen's Court, this Afternoon at Two of the Clock.
