Prayers.

SIR John Temple reports the Amendments to the Ordinance concerning Sir Francis Knollis: The which were twice read; and, upon the Question, passed.

And the Ordinance, with the Amendments, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Mr. Lisle reports Three several Certificates, from the Committee of Accompts, concerning Sir William Brereton. The First of the said Certificates bears Date the Fourth Day of November 1645; upon the Foot whereof there is certified to be due to him the Sum of Five hundred Thirty-and-three Pounds Thirteen Shillings and One Peny: The Second bears Date the Two-and twentieth Day of November 1645, concerning some Vouchers of other Sums charged in the former Certificate of 4 Novembris 1645: The Third Certificate bears Date the Seven-andtwentieth Day of July 1646: Wherein the Pay for his Entertainment, as a Major-General, being cast up at Ten Pounds per diem, the Sum certified to be due to him was Nine thousand Two hundred and Nine Pounds Nineteen Shillings and Five-pence: And, being cast up at Forty Shillings per diem, according to the Establishment of the Army, the Sum certified to be due to him was Seven hundred Seventy-and-seven Pounds Nineteen Shillings and Five-pence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, That all such Accomptants, as have received, or shall receive, any Monies, Goods, Free-Quarter, or other Thing, for which they are accountable to the Commonwealth, shall be liable, upon the Allowance of their respective Accompts, to be further charged with any Surplusage, for and during the Space of Two Years, from and after such Allowance of their Accompts, and no longer.

Ordered, That the preceding Order be forthwith printed: And that the Committee of Accompts do take care, that it be sent down to their several Sub-Committees in the Countries, and published at the Assizes and Quarter-Sessions.

Ordered, That Sir James Harrington, and Colonel Harvey, be referred to the Committee of Accompts; to state and certify to this House their particular and respective Accompts.

Resolved, &c. That the Votes, Orders, or Declarations, passed this House, for allowing unto Major-Generals the Entertainment of Ten Pounds per diem, as Major-Generals, be vacated, and made null: And that this Vote relate as well to the Time past, as to the Time to come.

This Committee is appointed to consider of the Commissions of Major-Generals, the Nature of their Employments, the Time of Continuance of such their Employments, the Occasions of Expence in their Employments; and to return their Opinions what is fit to be allowed unto them, upon their several Entertainments; regard being had to their Services, and to the Occasions of the Kingdom: And are to meet on Monday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer-Chamber; and so de die in diem: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records: They are further to consider what Rewards or Satisfaction any of the said Major-Generals have received, by way of Sequestration, or otherwise.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five thousand Pounds be paid unto Sir William Brereton, upon Account, by the Committee at Goldsmiths-Hall, out of the Fines and Compositions of such Delinquents as he shall nominate unto the said Committee, whose Compositions are not already disposed of: And that the Acquittance of the said Sir William Brereton, or his Assigns, shall be a sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the Committee at Goldsmiths-Hall, and the Treasurers there, for the Payment of the said Five thousand Pounds accordingly.

The Question was propounded, Whether it shall be referred to the Committee lately named, to consider of a Balloting-Box, and the Use of it; and to present their Opinions to the House:

Resolved, &c. That a Day be appointed for considering of the most convenient Way of nominating Persons to Offices, Preferments, and Rewards: And that this Day, for this Business, be Thursday next come Fortnight.

The humble Petition of the Merchants, Owners of Ships, and Mariners, in and about London, was read; and was, concerning the Tax of One Tenth-Part more of the Value of the Custom, over and above the Rates in the Book of Rates, payable by the Merchant, for the Preservation of Plymouth, &c.; of which Burden they desire to be eased.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, That the Time of the Continuance of the Tax of One Tenth-Part more of the Value of the Custom, over and above the Rates in the Book of Rates, payable by the Merchant, for the Preservation of Plymouth, Poole, Lyme, &c. shall be until the Five-and-twentieth Day of January, now next coming, and no longer.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of this House that were of the Committee of the Army, to consider of and represent some Propositions to the House, for the Maintenance of the Garison of Plymouth, and other Garisons, with all convenient Speed.
