Die Mercurii, 24 Junii, 1646, Die Publicæ Humiliationis.

ORdered, That Sir Wm. Allenson do, from this House, give Thanks to Doctor Smyth, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached this Day, at the Intreaty of this House, at St. Margaret's, Westminster; it being the Day of Publick Humiliation; and to desire him to print his Sermon: And he is to have the like Privilege in Printing of it, as others in the like kind usually have had.

Ordered, That Mr. Gerard do, from this House, give Thanks to Mr. Spurstoe, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached this Day, at the Intreaty of this House, at St. Margaret's, Westminster; it being the Day of Publick Humiliation; and to desire him to print his Sermon: And he is to have the like Privilege in Printing of it, as others in the like kind usually had.

Ordered, That Mr. Ashhurst do, from this House, desire Mr. Newcomen to pray before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, the next Fast-Day.

Ordered, That Sir John Clotworthy do, from this House, desire Mr. Carill to preach before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, next Fast-Day.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Armyn do, from this House, desire Mr. Whitacher to preach before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, the next Fast-Day.

Ordered, That, on the next monthly Fast-Day, there be a Collection within the several Churches and Chapels within the Cities of London and Westminster, and Liberties thereof, the Lines of Communication, and Weekly Bills of Mortality: And that one Moiety of the said Collection be paid, by the several Collectors or Receivers thereof, unto Mr. Michael Herring, Merchant, to be disposed of and employed for the Relief of the Poor of the Parishes of Tiverton and Culliton in the County of Devon (which Places are now sorely visited with the Plague) in such sort and manner, as the Committee for the West shall direct and appoint: And that the other Moiety of the said Collection be employed and disposed by the Churchwardens or Overseers for the Poor of the respective Parishes and Places within the Limits aforesaid, for the Relief of the Poor there: And that the several Ministers within the Limits aforesaid do earnestly stir up the People to a free and charitable Contribution; the Necessities of their own Poor, as well as of the Poor of Tiverton and Cullyton, calling for greater Supplies than otherwise, both in respect of the Hand of God, in his Visitation, being upon them, and the Distractions of the Times: And the Lord Mayor of the City of London is desired, That the respective Ministers may have notice of this Order.

Ordered, That Paul Best be brought to the Bar on Wednesday next: And that all the Lawyers of the House do attend the House for his Tryal: And the Care of managing the Charge against him is especially referred to Mr. Grimston.
