Prayers.

MR. Marshall desiring to be excused for not Preaching on the next Fast-Day, in regard of the Multitude of Businesses, which at this present lies upon him;

It is Ordered, That Mr. Spurstowe be desired to preach on the next Fast-Day, before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster: And that Sir Gilbert Gerard do acquaint him with this Desire of the House.

According to the Order Yesterday made, Mr. Pierpont proceeded in the Report of the Proceedings of the Commissioners employed, from both Houses, to reside with the Forces late before Newarke.

He reports an Abstract of the Commission to the Committee appointed, by the Parliament of Scotland, to attend their Army in England: A Paper of 21 Aprilis 1646, containing the Proceedings of a Council of War of Colonel Frazer's Regiment, for Tryal of the Offenders at Tickhill: A Paper of 5 Maii 1646, containing the English Commissioners Protestation against the Proceedings of the Scottish Council of War at Laughton: A Paper of 11 Maii 1646, containing the Desires of the English Commissioners for Removal of the Officers of Newarke from the Scottish Army: Also a Paper, containing the Narrative of the Proceedings of the English Commissioners, concerning Mr. Ashbournham.

All which several Papers were this Day read.

Mr. Pierpont further delivered in several Petitions, Letters, and Complaints, of several Persons and Townships, concerning Misdemeanors committed by divers of the Scottish Army: Also the Complaints of the Inhabitants of Osgodcrosse in the County of Yorke, against divers of the Scotts Army: Likewise the Examinations of the Inhabitants of Osgodcrosse, about the Misdemeanors committed by divers Officers and Soldiers of the Scotts Army: Also the Lists of the Names of such Officers and Soldiers of the Scottish Army, as are complained of by the Inhabitants of the Wapentake of Osgodcrosse in the County of Yorke, sent and delivered to the Scotts Commissioners 21 and 27 Aprilis 1646.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Proceedings of the Commissioners employed from both Houses to reside with the Forces late before Newarke.

Resolved, &c. That hearty Thanks be given, from this House, to the Commissioners employed from both Houses to reside with the Forces late before Newarke; for the great Industry, Faithfulness, and Judgment, expressed by them in their Proceedings, and Discharge of the Trust reposed in them by both Houses, very much to the Honour of the Parliament.

Mr. Speaker, by the Command of the House, did accordingly give the hearty Thanks of this House to the Commissioners; viz. to Mr. William Pierpont, Sir William Armyn, Sir Edward Aiscough, Sir Anthony Irby, and Mr. Thomas Hatcher.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee where Mr. Stockdale hath the Chair, to consider of the Particulars of the whole Report made by Mr. Pierpont; and to state the Matter of Fact upon this whole Report; together with the Business concerning the Demands formerly made for the Delivery of the Garisons, and concerning the supernumerary Horse, and the Accompts of the Scotts Army: They are likewise to consider of the Information given in concerning a new Regiment that is lately come out of Scotland into Northumberland: They are likewise to state the Matter of Fact concerning Cheislie's Letter; and the Proceedings thereupon: And the Commissioners, late employed to Newarke, are added to this Committee: And likewise Mr. Wasthall, Mr. George Fenwick, Mr. Scott, and Mr. Bossevile, are added to this Committee: And they are to make Report of all to the House, with all convenient Speed: And the Care hereof is referred to Mr. Stockdale.

Ordered, That the Business concerning the Settlement of the Excise be taken into Consideration on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business.

Sir Walter Erle reports a Letter, in Cypher, of 15 Maii 1646, from Mr. Secretary Nicholas to Mr. Ashbournham, intercepted going out of Oxford, and decyphered by him: The which was read; and delivered back to Sir Walter Erle. And

Ordered, That a Copy thereof be forthwith sent to Sir Thomas Fairfax.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Expedient offered to the House, instead of the Commissioners appointed for scandalous Offences not enumerated, was referred, do make the Report thereof on Monday Morning next: And that, when the said Report comes in, the House do set aside the present Business; and take the said Report into Consideration.

The Propositions concerning the Militia, with all the Branches thereof, were all this Day read.

The Question was propounded, Whether any Alteration shall be made to these Propositions concerning the Militia:

And then the Question being put, Whether this Question should be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

Resolved, &c. That no Alteration shall be made in these Propositions concerning the Militia.

The Propositions concerning Ireland were all read.

And it is Resolved, &c. That no Alteration shall be made in these Propositions concerning Ireland.

Ordered, That Mr. Wm. Stephens, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, That the Declaration for asserting the Privileges of this Kingdom be reported, next after the Report of the Expedient concerning Commissioners shall be settled.

Ordered, That the House do proceed to take into further Consideration the Business of Propositions, the first Business, on Monday Morning next.
