Prayers.

THE humble Petition of the Owners of Ships trading to Newcastle, Sunderland, &c. for Coals, was this Day read: And

Ordered, That it be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of the Navy: Who are to give a speedy Account thereof to the House: And it is likewise especially recommended unto them, to take care of the Preservation of the Northern Coasts, and of the Fishery upon those Coasts.

A Letter from the Parliament of Scotland, from St. Andrewes, of 8 Januarii instant, was this Day read; and ordered to be communicated to the Lords.

A Letter from the Commissioners before Newarke, from Grantham, of 19 Januarii 1645, was this Day read; and ordered to be communicated to the Lords at a Conference.

A Particular of Provisions assessed upon several Counties, by the Commissioners of the Parliament; to be employed for the Use of the Scotts Army now before Newarke; and likewise a Copy of a blank Warrant to the several Counties, and for the raising those Provisions; were this Day read.

A Letter from the Committees at Yorke, of 21 Januarii 1645, was this Day read; and ordered to be communicated to the Lords at a Conference.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Proceedings of the Commissioners of both Houses of Parliament, residing with the Scotts Army before Newarke, in their Assessing of the Counties for one Month: And this House doth further declare, That what Monies or Provisions shall be levied by virtue of the said Assessment, shall be allowed and reimbursed out of the Assessments upon the Ordinance for Maintenance of the Scotts Army.

Ordered, That Sir Anthony Irby do send this Vote to the Commissioners of both Houses, residing with the Scotts Army before Newarke.

Ordered, That the Governor of Lynn do forthwith send away the Foot appointed to go from thence to the Service against Newarke; or otherwise speedily to shew good Cause to the Parliament, Why they are not sent away, and the Service of the Publick retarded: And the Gentlemen that serve for the County of Norfolke, or for the Town of Lynn, do take care for the Sending of this Order, with all Speed, to the Governor of Lynn.

Sir Henry Mildmay was appointed to go to the Lords, to desire a Conference, so soon as may stand with their Lordships Conveniency, concerning some Letters and Papers this House hath received from the Commissioners residing with the Forces before Newarke; and some Resolutions thereupon, concerning the Scotts Army before Newarke.

He was further to acquaint the Lords, That, by reason of the great Affairs of this House, they were prevented to give a Meeting at the Conference upon the Ordinance for Martial Law: And they are now ready to give a Meeting at this Conference, at such time as their Lordships shall appoint.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and appoint Edward Birkhead Esquire, Serjeant at Arms, to attend the Commons, in Parliament assembled.

Sir Henry Mildmay brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to give a Conference presently, in the Painted Chamber, upon the Matters desired; and do agree, That at this time this House may have a Conference, concerning the Ordinance for Martial Law, formerly desired.

Sir John Evelyn of Wiltes, Colonel White, Mr. Thorpe, and Mr. Berwis, are appointed Managers of the Conference concerning the Scotts Army before Newarke.

Mr. Lisle, Mr. Hill, and Mr. Corbett, are appointed Managers of the Conference upon the Ordinance for Martial Law.

The Letter from the Committee from Keswick in Cumberland, of 2 Decembris 1645; and the Letter from the said Committee from Penrith, of 28 Novembris 1645; and a Letter from William Kilhed, Governor of Carlisle, of 21 Novembris 1645; and a Warrant of the said Governor's of Carlisle, of the same Date; were all delivered to be communicated to the Lords at this Conference.

A Letter from the Scotts Commissioners, from WorcesterHouse, of 24 Januarii 2645; with a Paper from them inclosed, of the same Date, desired by the said Letter to be communicated to both Houses; were this Day read: The Paper from the Scotts Commissioners was concerning some Letters of one Robert Wright, from Paris.

And some other Informations, communicated to the Committee of both Kingdoms, were this Day read. And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of both Houses that are of the Committee of both Kingdoms, to state the Matter of Fact, and of their Proceedings, upon the Informations mentioned in the Scotts Paper; and to report it to the House on Monday next, the first Business; and to communicate it, so stated, to the Commissioners of Scotland; and to acquaint them with the Time they are required to report it to the House: And that then likewise the original Letters, whereof Copies were now read, be brought in to the House.

Copies of several Letters, subscribed Robert Wright, from Paris, of 14 / 24 Novembris, 12 / 22 Decembris, 18 / 28 Decembris, and of 9 / 19 Januarii 1645, to Mr. St. John, and by him communicated to the Committee of both Kingdoms, were all this Day read.
