Prayers.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Exchange of the Lord Brereton, Prisoner to the Parliament-Forces, for Sir Jo. Northcott, a Member of this House, Prisoner to the King's Forces; provided that Sir John Northcott be returned free into these Quarters, before the Lord Brereton be released.

Ordered, That it be especially referred, from this House, to Sir Tho. Fairfaxe, to send as many Horse and Dragoons, as possibly he can spare, as fast as they come in, to Abingdon; there to remain in Service, till he shall have Occasion to use them.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the West, to consider of Recruiting and Disposing of Captain Blachford's Troop.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for the Army where Mr. Scawen has the Chair, to consider of recruiting Captain James his Troop, that lies at Marloe; and to send it to Abingdon.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do, from the House, write a Letter to the Commissioners of Excise, to acquaint them with the Necessities of Abingdon, and the extreme Importance of furnishing the said Town of Abingdon with the Three thousand Pounds formerly assigned for that Garison.

Mr. Fountaine and Mr. Winwood are appointed to go to the Commissioners of Excise, to acquaint them with this Letter; and to press the Performance thereof.

A Letter from Sir Tho. Fairefaxe, from Windesore, of April. 5 1645, was this Day read, concerning Directions to be given, that Colonel Fleetewood's Regiment may march into these Parts; and that a proportionable Number of the Northern Horse may come into Lincolneshire, in lieu thereof. And

It is Ordered, That this Letter be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of both Kingdoms; who are desired to return a speedy Account hereof.

A Proclamation, intituled, "A Proclamation, requiring all such as have any Office or Command in Ireland, to make their speedy Repair thither, to attend their Employment," of March 17th, printed at Oxon; which was intercepted by the Abingdon Forces; was this Day read.

An Ordinance for ordering and regulating the Forces in the County of Lancaster was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That Sir Jo. Curson and Mr. Hallowes do bring in an Ordinance for ordering and regulating the Forces of Derbyshire; and for Raising of Monies for Payment of the same.

Ordered, That any One Lord, and Three Commoners, of the Committee of Lords and Commons, to whom formerly the Business concerning Mr. Jo. Gryffyth was referred, shall have Power to examine and proceed, according to the Order of Aprilis 5 1645.

Mr. Wallop reports, from the Committee of both Kingdoms, the humble Petition of the Gentlemen of the Eastern Association; and likewise the humble Desires of the Eastern Associated Counties: The which were read.

Resolved, &c. That the Third-Part of the Sequestration-Money, formerly assigned to the Earl of Manchester, be referred to the Disposing of the respective Committees of the several Counties, for Relief of sick and maimed Soldiers, Scouts, Intelligences, and other Emergencies; and for the Defence of the respective Counties.

Resolved, &c. That each Member of the Standing-Committee at Cambridge shall have the Allowance of Thirty-five Shillings per Week allowed him, towards his Charge in Attendance of the publick Service. And Mr. Ellys is appointed to bring in an Ordinance for fettling and establishing the Committees of the Associated Counties.

Ordered, That the humble Desires of the Eastern Associated Counties, this Day reported from the Committee of both Kingdoms, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Association; excepting that Particular concerning the Third-Part of the Sequestrations, which is already settled by the House.

It is further Ordered, That the Consideration of allowing the Standing-Committee at Cambridge an Allowance for defraying their publick and emergent Charges and Incidents; and for their Clerk: And likewise to consider of the Garison of Lynne; and a Letter of the Nineteenth of March, from the Committee at Harford . . . .

Mr. Grimston carried up to the Lords the Order concerning Gryffyth: For the Two thousand Pounds to the Associated Regiments at Abingdon: The Ordinance for Two thousand Pounds out of the Excise, for my Lord General's Horse, that lately came in, and submitted.

Mr. Lisle carried up to the Lords the Declaration concerning the Governor of the Isle of Wight, in relation to the Ordinance that discharges the Members of either House from all Offices and Commands Military or Civil.

Mr. Lisle brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Declaration concerning the Isle of Wight.

An Ordinance for the Associating of the several Counties of Yorke, Nottingham, Bishoprick of Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland, and Westmerland, was this Day read the First time; and ordered to be read the Second time To-morrow.

Ordered, That the Committee of the whole House, for the Church, do meet on Thursday Morning next, at Eight of Clock.

Ordered, That the Committee of both Kingdoms do, To-morrow, report their Opinion, upon the Paper presented by the States Ambassadors, at their last Audience.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do, every Morning, present, the first Business, such Matters as are depending, and are Matters only of Course; to the end such may be dispatched: And that, To-morrow Morning, the first Business, the Ordinances for discharging Sequestrations upon Compositions be read; and that no other Business intervene: And that likewise, To-morrow Morning, the Ordinance concerning Seizures; the Petition concerning Newcastle, and Bishoprick of Durham; and the Business concerning-Sheriffs; be read; and taken into Consideration.

Resolved, &c. That the Admiralty shall be settled in a Committee of Lords and Commons, to be chosen for that Purpose.

Resolved, &c. That an Ordinance be brought in for settling the Admiralty; with a Blank for the Names of such as shall be of That Committee: And that a Clause be inserted, That the Committee dispose of no Places.

Resolved, &c. That the Management of the Affairs of the Navy shall be settled in a Committee of Lords and Commons, to be chosen for that Purpose.

Resolved, &c. That an Ordinance be brought in for settling the Affairs of the Navy; with a Blank for the Names of such as shall be of the Committee: And that a Clause be inserted, That the Committee shall dispose no Places.

Ordered, That Mr.Green, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Prideaux, and Mr. Browne, do bring in Two Ordinances for the Pu\?\rposes aforesaid.

Resolved, That the managing the Affairs of the Revenue shall be settled in a Committee of Lords and Commons, to be chosen for that Purpose: And that an Ordinance shall be brought in; with a Blank for the Names of such as shall be of the Committee: Wherein a Clause is to be inserted, What Places shall be disposed by That Committee.

Ordered, That Mr. Whitelock, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Sollicitor, and Mr. Ellys, do bring in an Ordinance for that Purpose.

Ordered, That the Debate, touching the Commissioners for the Great Seal, be put off to a further Time.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider how to supply the Places and Commands of those Gentlemen, which are Members of this House, and now in the Service of the Armies; and how to reduce the Garisons under their Charge.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Mr. Grimston reports, The Lords concurr with this House, in the Ordinance for securing Two thousand Pounds, advanced by the Commissioners of the Excise, for the Horse that submitted to the Parliament: The Ordinance for Two thousand Pounds to the Association: And to the Order concerning Mr. Gryffythe's Business.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Lewes be added to the Committee, which are to consider of my Lord General's Services and Fortunes.

Ordered, That Sir John Eveling do draw a Letter, to be sent to Sir Thomas Fairfax, to desire him to take special Notice of such inferior Officers as have listed themselves; and to let them know, That this House will take them into their special Consideration: And that he write a Letter of Thanks also to Major Skippon; to be both signed by the Speaker.

Ordered, That if there be any Surplusage of Money remaining of the Two thousand Pounds, appointed for the Regiments at Abingdon, and Train of Artillery, that it be referred to the Committee for the Army, to dispose of it.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

Whereas the Lords had appointed to have given Audience to the Dutch Ambassadors this Day; whereof they sent Word to this House before, and have received no Answer; therefore they have appointed to hear them To-morrow.

They further signified, That they have added Four Lords to the Committee concerning Mr. Griffith; and have appointed them to meet this Afternoon: And desire a proportionable Number of this House to be added to That Committee; and that they may meet from time to time.

Ordered, That Mr. Whitelock, Mr. Reynolds, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Baynton, Sir Philip Stapilton, Mr. Grimston, Doctor Eden, Mr. Seldon, be added to the Committee concerning Mr. Griffithe's Business, according as is desired.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered of their Lordships Message: And, as to That which concerns the States Ambassadors, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own: To That concerning Mr. Griffith, they have agreed to; and have named a proportionable Number of their House to meet with the Lords this Afternoon; and so from time to time, as is desired.
