Prayers.

THE Grand Committee sat upon the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Mr. Sandys in the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Sandys reports the Amendments, Additions, and Alterations, to the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

The Amendments were opened by the Reporter; and twice read by the Clerk.

He further reported from the Committee, That a Committee might be appointed, to consider what Allowances shall be fit to be made to the late Bishops, for their Subsistence, during their Lives: And that a Committee might be appointed, to consider of disposing such Prisoners as are now Prisoners in any of the Bishops Houses, in or about London, or the Parts near adjacent.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth assent unto the Contractors brought in by the Committee, and to the Clauses concerning them.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth assent to the Treasurers, as they are brought in, in the Amendments from the Committee.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth assent unto the Comptroller, as it is brought in from the Committee.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth assent unto the Proviso, concerning the Payment of the Allowances to the Assembly of Divines, out of Lands of the Archbishop of Canterbury, until the said Lands be sold, as it is reported from the Committee.

A Proviso, for vesting in the Trustees, and preserving from Sale, such Jura Regalia, as the Bishop of Ely did exercise, as a Count Palatine, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be added to the Ordinance.

A Proviso, for reserving from Sale all Cathedral Churches, Chapels belonging to Cathedrals, Churchyards, and Places used for Burial, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be added to the Ordinance.

All the rest of the Amendments, brought from the Committee, were put to the Question; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

And the Ordinance, so amended, upon the Question, passed.

Ordered, That the Instructions, to be given to the Contractors named in the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands, be brought in To-morrow Morning; and taken into Consideration, the first Business.

This Committee is to consider of a sitting Maintenance to be allowed to such Bishops as have remained and continued under the Power of the Parliament, and for such other Bishops as have deserted the Parliament; to be paid to them during their Lives: And have Power to consider of such Votes concerning Allowances to Bishops, as have formerly passed the House: And are to meet To-morrow at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the ExchequerChamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records.
