Prayers.

THE Grand Committee of the House sat, to take into Consideration the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

An Ordinance for committing the Custody of the Great Seal of England unto Commissioners therein named, being Members of both Houses, was this Day read the First and Second time.

A Proviso, limiting the Commissioners not to present to Livings, nor to make Justices of Peace, without the Assent of both Houses, was read; and, upon the Question, laid aside; and ordered not to be added.

Then the Ordinance, upon the Question, passed: And

It is Ordered, That the Lords Concurrence be desired therein.

Sir Robert Harley carried it to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Upon Mr. Sandys' Report from the Grand Committee;

It is Ordered, That the House be resolved again into a Committee, to take into further Consideration the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Estates, at Eleven of the Clock.

This Committee are to consider of regulating the Proceedings of the Chancery, and the Offices and Fees of the said Court: And have Power to receive Complaints about such Justices of Peace, as are in Commission, and are fit to be put out: Mr. Selden, Mr. Ball, Mr. Robinson, and Mr. Reynolds, are to take care hereof: And are to meet upon it on Friday next, in the Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Queen's Court: And have Power to send for Parties, Papers, Witnesses, Records.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for the Custody of the Great Seal do not relieve any Person in Chancery, in any Case where the Party may be relieved by the Common Law of the Kingdom.

Resolved, &c. That a Committee be nominated for regulating the Proceedings of the Exchequer-Chamber, Duchy-Court, and other English Courts, and the Fees of the Officers there.

This Committee is appointed to consider of Regulating the Proceedings of the Exchequer-Chamber, DuchyCourt, and other English Courts, and the Fees of the Officers there: And are to meet upon it on Friday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the ExchequerChamber: And have Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records.

Ordered, That Notice be taken of the good and faithful Services performed to the Parliament and Kingdom by Walter Strickland Esquire, their Agent with the StatesGeneral of the United Provinces: And that the Thanks of the House be given to Mr. Strickland, in Testimony and Acknowledgment of his said Services.

Mr. Strickland being present, Mr. Speaker, by the Command of the House, did give him Thanks accordingly.

A Letter from Monsieur De Gassion, from the Camp at Duynkirk, of 11 Octobris 1646, recommending Colonel Mazews to have the Arrears of his Pay paid to him, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of this House that are of the Committee of the Army, to put it into a Way, that his Arrears may be audited; and to consider of some Way how his Arrears may be satisfied.

An Ordinance for appointing Edward Bish Esquire to be Garter Principal King of Arms was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Ordered, That Mr. Edward Bishe shall perform the Service of Garter Principal King of Arms, To-morrow, at the Funeral of the Earl of Essex, notwithstanding that the Ordinance for appointing and constituting him Garter Principal King of Arms be not then passed.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

And the Committee sat, to take into Consideration the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Upon Mr. Sandys' Report from the Grand Committee;

It is Resolved, &c. That the House do meet in a Grand Committee, on Friday Morning next, the first Business, at Eight of the Clock, to take into further Consideration the Ordinance for appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Ordered, That the House do meet in a Grand Committee, on Friday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, to take into further Consideration the Ordinance for Assessments for Maintenance of the Army.

Sir Robert Harley brings Answer, That, to the Ordinance concerning the Great Seal, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Ordered, That Mr. Whitelock do go to the Lords, on Friday Morning next, to desire them to expedite the Ordinance concerning the Committee, and the Treasurers of the Army.
