Die Mercurii, 30 Septembris, 1646. Die Publicæ Humiliationis.

ORdered, That Mr. Long do, from this House, give Thanks to Mr. Palmer, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached this Day, at the Intreaty of this House, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, it being the Day of Publick Humiliation; and to desire him to print his Sermon: And he is to have the like Privilege, in Printing of it, as others in the like kind usually have had.

Ordered, That Mr. Salwey do, from this House, give Thanks to Mr. Simons, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached this Day, at the Intreaty of this House, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, it being the Day of Publick Humiliation; and to desire him to print his Sermon: And he is to have the like Privilege in Printing of it, as others in the like kind usually have had.

Ordered, That Mr. Bosevile do, from this House, desire Mr. Lockyer to preach before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, the next Fast-Day.

Ordered, That Mr. Millington do, from this House, desire Mr. * Strickland to preach before the Commons, at St. Margaret's, Westminster, the next Fast-Day.

Mr. Ball reports, from the Committee, some Additions to the Ordinance for preventing the Neglect and Prosanation of the monthly Fast: The which were read.

And, upon the Question, the Ordinance, with the Additions, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords, for their Concurrence, by Mr. Ball.

This Committee are to bring in a Consession of the Sins of this Kingdom, and of the Kingdom of Ireland; and of the Sins of this Kingdom, in relation to Ireland; to be read on every monthly Fast-Day; and to report the same on the next monthly Fast-Day.

Mr. Recorder, Sir Simond D'Ewes, Mr. Ashurst, Sir Ralph Ashton, Mr. Lucas, Mr. Oldesworth, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Rolle, Mr. Allen, Mr. Harrington, Mr. Rous, Mr. Bois, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Leigh, Mr. Nelthorpe, Mr. Long, Mr. White, Mr. Oxenden, Mr. Palmer, Mr. Clive, Sir Wm. Constable, Mr. Gourdon, Mr. Selden, Mr. Drake, Mr. Ball, Sir Gregory Norton, Mr. Hallowes, Sir Wm. Allenson, Mr. Scott;

This Committee, or any Five of them, are to take into Consideration the several Oaths, that are taken either in the Universities, or by Sheriffs, or in any City, Borough, or Town Corporate, or by any Society or Company, or by any other Persons: They are likewise to consider of a Remedy to prevent clandestine Marriages, without the Consent of Parents; and incestuous Marriages: And are to meet upon it, in the Star-Chamber, To-morrow in the Afternoon at Two of Clock; and present what they think fit to be done, upon these Particulars, to the House; and report the same on the next monthly Fast-Day.

And the Care hereof is more especially referred to Mr. Ball.

Mr. Recorder, Mr. Alderman Pennington, Alderman Atkin, Mr. Long, Mr. Allen, Mr. Wheeler, Sir Thomas Dacres, are appointed to go to the Commissioners of Excise; and to press them, as the earnest Desire of this House, to advance the Ten thousand Pounds charged upon the Receipts of the Grand Excise, with Interest, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Centum, every Six Months, for the Forbearance, ordered to be employed for the Relief of Widows, and other necessitous People, to whom Money is owing; and to acquaint them, that, as it will be a pious and charitable Work, so it will be a very acceptable Service to the House.
