THE Grand Committee, according to former Order, sat, to take into Consideration the great Work of Church-Government.
Mr. Whittacre in the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Resolved, &c. That, to the end we may have God's Assistance in the Finishing and Settling of this great Work of Church-Government, Wednesday Sevennight be appointed and set apart for a Day of Humiliation, for both Houses of Parliament, and the Assembly of Divines, to seek God for His Directions therein.
The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein, by Sir Robert Harley.
Ordered, That Mr. Jeremiah Whittacre and Mr. Stephen Marshall be desired to preach before both Houses, and the Assembly of Divines, on Wednesday Sevennight; being an especial Day of Humiliation, set apart to seek God for his Direction, in the Settling of this great Work of Church-Government: And that Mr. Ashurst do give Mr. Whittacre notice hereof: And that Mr. Wheeler give notice to Mr. Marshall.
Ordered, That Mr. Burgesse be desired to preach the next Fast-Day, before the Commons House at St. Margaret's, Westminster, in the place of Mr. Marshall: And that Mr. Alderman Atkins do give him notice hereof.
Ordered, That the Members of this House be injoined to attend and be present on Wednesday Sevennight, being the Day of Humiliation, at the Exercise of the Day.
