Herle's Petition.

ORDERED, That the Petition of Mary Herle, Widow, be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs.

Clerke's Goods.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to take care that the Goods of Mr. Christopher Clerke, late Mayor of Exon, taken in the Topsham Ships, be restored unto them.

Midlemore's Sequestration.

An Ordinance for the settling of Mr. Midlemore's Estate, a Papist, for the Payment of the Garison kept by Colonel Foxe, was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent up unto the Lords, for their Concurrence.

Pym's Debts, &c.

Ordered, That the Committee appointed to consider of the Payment of Mr. Pym's Debts, and for Provisions for his Children, do consider out of what Estates, of some Papists, the same may be allowed.

Day's, &c. Claims.

Ordered, That Tho. Day, and Wm. Cullen, Gentlemen, shall have the publick Faith for Repayment of the Three hundred Fifty-five Pounds Eighteen Shillings and Elevenpence, paid unto Colonel Allen, upon the Ordinance for reducing Newcastle: And that a Letter be writ to the Lord Fairfaxe, that the said Colonel may give Account of the said Monies, and other Monies received by him.

Sir Edw. Bainton.

Sir Edw. Bainton, according to the Injunction this Day given him by the House, hath engaged himself not to depart the Service, and go into his Country, without the Leave of the House.

Excise.

Ordered, That the Ordinance of Excise be reported To-morrow.

Exporting Wools, &c.

An Ordinance of Parliament for to prohibit the Exportation of Wools, Woollfels, Shorlings, Mortlings, Yarn made of Wooll, Wooll-flocks, Fullers Earth, and Fullers Clay, &c. was read the First and Second time; and committed unto Serjeant Wilde, Sir Tho. Widdrington, Mr. Greene, Mr. Cage, Sir Rob. Pye, Mr. Browne, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Edw. Boys, Mr. Spurstoe, Mr. Skynner, Sir Nath. Barmston, Sir Tho. Walsingham, Mr. Button, Mr. Hallowes, Mr. Whitehead, Sir W. Allinson, the Burgesses of the several Port Towns: And all the Members of this House that will come, are to have Voices: And are to meet To-morrow, at Two a Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Military Affairs at Lyme.

A Letter from the Earl of Warwicke, of the Thirtieth of May, from aboard his Ship before Lyme, was read; relating the Condition of that Town, and how valiantly they still defend that Town against Prince Maurice; and that the Enemy, when they last stormed the Town, being on the last Fast-day, were beaten off with the Loss of Four hundred of the Enemy, slain on the Place; and informing the House, what Supplies of Men, and Ammunition, and Victuals, his Lordship hath sent into the Town, for their Relief: And also sent a Relation of every Day's Proceedings since the Siege of Lyme: Both which were read, and ordered to be printed.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be written to the Earl of Warwicke, and to the Commanders of the several Ships that have done such Service for the Relief of Lyme: And also, that a Letter be written to the Town of Lyme, and the Commanders in Chief there, from this House, taking notice of the special Service done by them, in the Defence of that Place: And the Committee for the West are to prepare these Letters; and present the same to the House.

Naval Affairs.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Navy do write to my Lord Warwicke a Letter, and inform him, concerning the Earl of Marleborough's sending Ships into the Streights; and of the Danger our Ships trading into those Parts unless two Ships be sent thither: And to desire his Lordship to send Two accordingly.

Lyme Corporation, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Lyme, and Poole, and Plymouth, to bring in an Ordinance for the disposing and setting out of my Lord Pawlett's Estate, a fit Recompence on the Corporation of Lyme; and also for the Reparation for the Losses in that Town sustained; and also for a Reward and Recompence to the Commanders, Officers, and Soldiers, that have so manfully defended that Town.

Relief of Lyme.

Ordered, That the Committee for the West do forthwith go to . . . Committee of both Kingdoms, and desire them, with all Speed, to take care, that Forces be sent with all Speed to the Relief of Lyme: And that my Lord General be sent unto for this Purpose.

Loan for Poole.

Ordered, That Five hundred Pounds be borrowed out of Haberdashers Hall, for the Service of Poole, now in great Distress; and that the same shall be repaid within a Fortnight; the same Monies to be paid to Mr. Hen. Bridges; whose Acquittance shall be a sufficient Receipt for the same.

Committee of both Kingdoms.

Resolved, &c. That the House do sit this Afternoon, at Three of the Clock; and take into Consideration the Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms.

Assignments to Lyme, &c.

An Ordinance was read, and assented unto, for assigning the Two thousand Pounds for the Twentieth Part of Sir Edw. Yates's Estate, to Lyme and Poole; and likewise an Ordinance for assigning the Money of Sir Jo. Byron's in Sir James Stonehouse's Hand, was read; and assented unto; and both ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

States Ambassadors, &c.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leeche and Mr. Page; desiring a Conference concerning a Message received from the States Ambassadors; and a Letter to my Lord General, from the Queen of Bohemia.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Message to Lords.

Sir Robert Pye went up to the Lords, to acquaint them, that this House intends to sit this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in respect of important Affairs; and desire the Lords to sit at the same time; and to desire the Lords, that, at this next Conference, it may be imparted unto them . . . . an Order concerning Colonel Carre, formerly sent unto them: And carried up with him the Two Ordinances above-mentioned concerning Lyme.

Earl of Rexboroughe.

Mr. Browne presents, from the Committee of both Kingdoms, a Paper delivered to that Committee from the Scoche Commissioners, concerning the Earl of Roxboroughe: Which was read: And

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Browne, Mr. Holles, Mr. Whitlocke, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Recorder, Mr. Tate, Mr. Strode, Mr. Reynolds, to prepare an Answer to that Paper; and present the same to the House.

Stores for Lyme.

Ordered, That Forty Barrels of Powder, and a Ton of Match, be forthwith sent to the Town of Lyme, out of the Stores in the Tower: And that the Committee for the Safety do grant a Warrant accordingly.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leeche and Mr. Page;

That the Lords have agreed to the Ordinance concerning Mr. Gamul; and do return this Ordinance concerning Pembrokeshire; which Ordinance they do agree unto, with the Alterations sent down, with some Amendments: Which were read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Rutlandshire.

Ordered, The Business concerning Rutlandshire, be taken into Consideration, this Afternoon.

Newport Pagnell Garison.

Upon Information given to the House, That one Culverin and one Demi Culverin of Brass are very necessary for the Garison of Newport Pagnell;

It is Ordered, That the Committee of the Navy do give Order unto the Lieutenant of the Ordinance, for the issuing out of that Office, for the Use of the said Garison, one Culverin and one Demi Culverin of Brass, to be delivered, by Indenture, unto Sir Oliver Luke, or his Assigns, to the end they may be, with all Speed, conveyed to the said Garison.

Tamworth Castle.

Ordered, That Two Sacres and One Drake at Newport be delivered by Sir Samuel Luke, for the Use of Tamworth Castle, upon Receipt of the Culverin and Demi Culverin.

The Lords Concurrence desired in these Two Orders.

Delinquents Timber.

Ordered, That Sir Samuel Luke, with the Consent of the Committee for the County of Buckingham, or any Two of them, shall have Power to fell so much Timber growing upon the Lands of Papists and other Delinquents, near adjoining to Newport Pagnell, within the County of Bucks, as shall be needful for the better Fortification of the Garison.

Grant to Rudgeley.

Ordered, That the Sum of Nine hundred and Seventy-nine Pounds Four Shillings and Four-pence shall be allowed to Colonel Symon Rudgeley, in Recompence of his Service, upon Account; and that it be allowed and paid Half-yearly unto him the said Colonel, by the Committee at Stafford, out of the Estate and Lands, in the County of Stafford, of Sir Edward Littleton's: And the said Committee are hereby ordered forthwith to allow the same accordingly.

Money for Plymouth, &c.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That the Money remaining in the Hands of Sir James Stonehouse, belonging unto Sir John Byron, shall be bestowed and employed for the Use and Benefit of the Towns of Plymouth and Lyme, in such manner, as by the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Safety of those Places, shall be directed and appointed: And it is specially recommended unto that Committee, to take speedy Course for the effectual levying and bringing in of the same: And Power and Authority is given them to send for Parties and Witnesses.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That the Assessment, for the Twentieth Part, set upon Sir Edward Yates, by the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, being the Sum of Two thousand Pounds, shall be bestowed and employed for the Use and Benefit of the Town of Lyme Regis, in such Manner, and for such Purposes, as by the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Safety of that Place, shall be directed and appointed. And it is further Ordered, by the said Lords and Commons, That the Assessments for the Twentieth Part, set upon Mr. Daniel Harvey, by the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, shall be bestowed and employed, One thousand Pounds thereof for the Use of Lyme, and the Residue for the Use and Benefit of the Town of Plymouth, in such Manner, and for such Purposes, as by the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Safety of that Town, shall be directed and appointed. And it is specially recommended to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, to take care for the speedy and effectual levying of the said several Assessments.

Grant to Fox.

Whereas Colonel John Fox hath, with great Courage and Valour, possessed himself of Edgebaston Hall, in the County of Warwick, being the Mansion House of Richard Middlemore Esquire, a Delinquent and Papist; and, with great Fidelity and Hazard of his Person, hath maintained and fortified the same, and planted a Garison therein, consisting of about Four Hundred Horse and Foot; and, with that Force, hath besides done many good Services to the Commonwealth: The Lords and Commons, now assembled in Parliament, taking the Premises into Consideration, do Order and Ordain, That the said Colonel Fox shall have, hold, and enjoy, the said Mansion House, together with the Manor of Edgebaston; and shall take and receive the Rents, Issues, and Profits thereof, and also the Rents and Revenues of the said Richard Middlemore, in the Parish of King's Norton, Yardley, and Northfeild, in the County of Worcester, upon Account, for and towards the Maintenance and Support of the said Garison, and for and towards the Payment and Satisfaction of such Sums of Money as shall be found justly due to the said Garison for the Time passed: And the several Committees of the Counties of Warwick, Worcester, and Stafford, or any one of them, are hereby authorized and required to take and examine the Accounts of the said Colonel; and to inform themselves of the certain yearly Value of the said Manor and Lands; that, according to the true Rates thereof, the said Colonel Fox may be charged for so long as he shall possess the same.

Gernesey and Jersey.

IT is this Day Ordered, by the Commons House of Parliament, That on Wednesday next, the Business concerning the Islands of Gernesey and Jersey be taken into Consideration.

Naval Prize.

A Letter from the Earl of Warwicke, of the Second June, to Mr. Speaker, was read; informing the House of the taking of a Prize, worth Eight thousand Pounds, going to Exeter, which had the Convoy of Two Men of War from Holland.

Reducing Virginia, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider what Course is fittest to be taken for reducing the Plantations of Virginia and Barmoudies to the Obedience of Parliament.

Taking of Teuxbury.

A Letter from Colonel Massy, of the Fifth of June, from Teuxbury, was read, informing the House of his taking of Teuxbury, and making use of that Place for inlarging his Quarters.

Ordered, That Mr. Pury and Mr. Hodges do prepare a Letter to be sent to Colonel Massy, to express the Thankfulness of this House for his good Services; and to desire him to continue diligent therein, the House being very loth to give Way to his coming up, there being so much Use for him now at this Time, when the King's Army moves that Way.

Relief of Lyme.

Mr. Solicitor reports from the Committee of both Kingdoms, a Letter from Edw. and Tho. Ceeley, dated Lyme, 3 Junii, and sent to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to hasten Relief by Land with all Speed, or the Town will be lost:

A Letter from my Lord General, of the Sixth of June, to the Committee of both Kingdoms, declaring his Resolution to march with his Army to the Relief of Lyme.

Ordered, That Mr. Prideauxe and Mr. Strode do presently withdraw, and prepare a Letter to be sent to my Lord General, to hasten with all Speed, by sending a strong Party of Horse and Dragoons for the Relief of Lyme; and to acquaint him with the Streights and Condition of that Town.

Mr. Solicitor and Mr. Perepointe proceeded further in the Report of the State of the Armies; and of the several Letters they have sent to all the Generals, and Commanders in Chief, concerning the Motions of the Army; and what Answers they have received.

Mr. Prideauxe reports the Letter to be sent by both Houses, to my Lord General, for his speedy March for the Relief of Lyme: Which was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent up to the Lords, by Sir Rob. Harley: Who went up with the same accordingly; and also with Colonel Fox his Ordinance; and an Ordinance for Fifty Pounds to Colonel Cunningham.

Dr. Walker was called in; and related the Condition of Lyme, from whence he came on Tuesday last; relateing, in Effect, the Substance of my Lord of Warwick's Letter.

Grant to Conningham.

Ordered, That the Committee at Haberdashers Hall do forthwith pay Fifty Pounds to Colonel Conningham, who hath lately lost his Arm in the Service of the Parliament.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley brings Answer, The Lords do agree to the Letter to the Earl of Essex: And as to the Two Ordinances, the Lords will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Committee of both Kingdoms.

Ordered, That the House do, To-morrow Morning, resume the Business of the Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms, and particularly that concerning Lancashire.

Captain Hatcher.

A Letter from Captain Jo. Hatcher, employed in the Service of the Parliament, sent Prisoner by the Lord Grey, to Leicester; a Letter from Rob. Horseman concerning the same, June Sixth; and a Petition of the Committee for Rutland, concerning this Business; were all read.

Rutlandshire.

Ordered, That That an Ordinance concerning Rutlandshire be brought in To-morrow Morning.
