PRAYERS .

Custom on Tobaccoes.

2da vice lecta est Billa, AN Act for the Payment of a Subsidy or Custom upon Tobaccoes of English Plantation.

And the Questions being put for the Commitment; and Ingrossing;

They both passed with the Negative.

And thereupon the Bill was rejected.

Publick Thanksgiving.

By Resolution upon the Question, the House doth assent unto this Ordinance following:

An Ordinance of Parliament, for a Day of publick Thanksgiving for the Peace concluded between England and Scotland.

Whereas it hath pleased Almighty God to give a happy Close to the Treaty of Peace between the Two Nations of England and Scotland, by his wise Providence defeating the evil Hopes of the subtle Adversaries of both Kingdoms; for which great Mercy it was, by the King's most Excellent Majesty, the Lords and Commons, in this present Parliament, enacted, that there should be publick Thanksgiving in all the Parish Churches of his Majesty's Dominions: It is now Ordained and Declared, by the Lords... Commons in Parliament, That the Time for the Celebration of that publick Thanks to Almighty God, for so great and publick a Blessing, shall be on Tuesday the Seventh of Sept. by Prayers, Reading, and Preaching the Word, in all Churches and Chapels of this Realm: Whereof we require a careful and due Observance, that we may join in giving Thanks, as we partake of the Blessing, with our Brethren in Scotland, who have designed the same Day for that Duty.

Sir Robert Harley went up to the Lords, to desire, that the select Committee of Five of their House might meet with the select Committee of this House, concerning an Ordinance to be framed for appointing a Day for the publick Celebrating of Thanksgiving, for the happy Conclusion of the Treaty.

Sir Robert Harley brings Answer, that the select Committee of that House will presently meet with the Committee of this House, in the Painted Chamber.

Disarming Recusants.

An Ordinance and Instructions for Disarming of Recusants was read.-

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Ro. Rich, and Mr. Page;

The Lords are now ready for the Meeting at a Conference, concerning the Recess, if it stand with the Conveniency of this House.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and will give a present Meeting.-

Disarming Recusants.

Ordered, That, after the Return from this Conference, the House shall resume the Consideration of the Ordinance and Instructions for the Disarming of Recusants.-

Sir Jo. Colepeper, Mr. Grimston, * Solicitor, * Pym, * Barrington, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Sir Jo. Colepeper reports the Conference with the Lords:

"The Lords gave this Answer; that they like very well of the Time of Wednesday come Sevennight for the Day of Recess; but, for the Day of Return to be on the Twentieth of October, they incline rather it should be on the First of November; but leave it to the Consideration of this House."

Resolved, upon the Question, That this House shall insist upon the former Day of the Return to be on the Twentieth of October.

Call of the House, &c.

Resolved, upon the Question, That no Leave shall be given to any Member of this House to depart, unless it be asked between Nine and Eleven: And that the House shall be called on Monday come Sevennight.

Conference.

Capt. Charles Price is appointed to go up to the Lords, to desire a free Conference concerning the Matter of the last Conference.

Reformado Officers.

Ordered, That the Money, according to the Certificate delivered in by Sir Jo. Hotham, shall be paid to the Reformado Officers, out of Sir Ro. Pye's and Mr. Wheeler's Receipt of the Poll-money, so soon as Money shall come in there.

Corbett's Cause.

Ordered, That, To-morrow Morning, the Cause concerning Sir Jo. Corbett shall be transmitted to the Lords: And Mr. Serjeant Wilde is to go up with the same: And Sir F. Knollis the younger is to desire the Conference.

Conference.

Mr. Charles Price brings Answer, that the Lords will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Disarming Recusants.

The House, according to a former Order, resumed the Consideration of the Ordinance and Instructions, concerning the Disarming of Recusants.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this Ordinance, together with the Instructions, shall be assented unto.

Sir Jo. Colpeper reports the Substance of the Conference:

That their Lordships did totally assent to the Twentieth of October, for the Day of Return of the Parliament: They farther said, that their Intention was, that if there should any great Occasion intervene, that they were not bound up by this Vote; and they hope, that the Intention of this House was the like: And that some Consideration may be had concerning the Commissioners sent into Scotland. It was farther said, that the Lords had taken Order to keep their Members together till the Recess: And had ordered, That the House should be called on Monday come Sevennight.

Navy Supply &c.

Sir Jo. Colpeper farther reported, that he and Sir H. Vaine were with the Commissioners for the Treasury, concerning the Fifteen thousand Pounds a Month to be paid towards the Navy; and that there should be Assignments for Payment of the same accordingly: And that the Lords would give Order for Ships, from transporting the Ammunition from Barwicke.

Adjournment.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this House doth Declare, That they are not so bound up by the Order for the Recess, but that, if any emergent Occasion shall arise, they may recede from it.

Disarming Recusants.

Ordered, That the Names of the Commissioners for disarming Recusants shall be presented to the House To-morrow Morning.

Levies for King of Spaine.

Ordered, That the Report concerning the Levies in Ireland, for the King of Spaine's Service, shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning at Nine of Clock.
