Prayers.

Copper Coinage.

A PETITION of the Maltsters, Brewers, Grocers, Butchers, Bakers, and divers other Traders and Dealers, in the Town and Borough of Abington, in the County of Berks, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioners have been, for some time past, and are daily, more and more oppressed with great Quantities of Halfpence and Farthings: And praying, That the House will take care to redress this growing Grievance.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee, to whom the Petition of the Grocers, Cheesemongers, Mealmen, Bakers, Victualers, Market-people, and Retailers in general, of the Borough of Southwark, is referred: And that they do examine the Matter thereof; and report the same, with their Opinion therein, to the House.

R. Smith's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the vesting several Lands, late belonging to Robert Smith Esquire, deceased, in Trustees, to be sold, for the Payment of his Debts, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time upon Wednesday Morning next.

Return of Juries at Assizes.

Sir William Hustler, according to Order, presented to the House a Bill for the more easy Return of Juries at the Assizes and Sessions: And the same was received.

Ordered, That the Bill be read To-morrow Morning.

Lloyd's Nat.

Mr. Brotherton reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill to naturalize William Lloyd Esquire was committed, That they had made several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Hawke's Estate.

Mr. Edward Harley reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill to enable John Hawkes to sell Lands in the County of Salop, for Payment of his Debts, was committed, That they had examined and considered the same; and had made some Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Ettrick's Estate.

A Petition of Samuel Starling, an Infant, was offered to the House, relating to the Bill for vesting in Trustees certain Lands, Parcel of the Estate of Jane late Wife of Antony Ettrick Gentleman, to be sold, for Payment of Debts, and for making a Provision for Elizabeth their Daughter, an Infant, and Heir to her said Mother:

And the Question being put, That the Petition be received;

It passed in the Negative.

Ditto.

The said Bill was read the Third time.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for vesting in Trustees certain Lands, Parcel of the Estate of Jane late Wife of Antony Ettricke Gentleman, to be sold, for Payment of Debts, and for the making a Provision for Eliz. their Daughter, an Infant, and Heir to her said Mother.

Ordered, That Sir William Bowes do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

A Message from the Lords by Sir John Hoskins and Mr. Pitt:

Mr. Speaker,

Bishop of Winchester's Leasing.

The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for confirming a Lease granted by the Lord Bishop of Winton, of a Parcel of Waste-ground in Alverstock, in the County of Southampton, for the erecting of Water-works there, and for improving the same: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House. Also,

Inland Bills of Exchange.

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act for the better Payment of inland Bills of Exchange, without any Amendment.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Hornby's Creditors.

Ordered, That Mr. Frewen, Sir Joseph Herne, Sir Tho. Davall, Mr. Mountstevens, Mr. Morris, Mr. Buckley, Mr. Guy, Mr. Lambton, be added to the Committee, to whom the Consideration of the Petition of several of the Creditors of Joseph and Nathaniel Hornby is referred.

Lord Lisburne's Estate.

Ordered, That Sir Rowland Gwynn, Sir Wm. Lowther, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Lambton, Mr. Phillips, Mr. England, Mr. Fuller, Mr. Gardner, Mr. Speke, be added to the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, for the better settling the several Estates of the Right Honourable John Lord Viscount Lisburne, in the Kingdom of England, and the Lady Viscountess Lisburne, his Wife, is committed.

Windham's Estate.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for enabling Trustees to make Leases, and grant Copies, and receive the Rents and Profits, of the Estates late of Sir Edward Windham Baronet, deceased, and Hopton Windham Esquire, deceased, during the Minority of Sir William Windham Baronet: And that Major-General Earle do prepare, and bring in, the Bill.

Hornby's Creditors.

A Petition of Sir John Buckworth, Sir Peter Vandeput, and John Bull, of London, Merchants, on behalf of themselves, and others, Creditors of Joseph and Nathanael Hornby, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That the Consideration of a Petition, said to be signed by several of the Creditors of the said Hornby's, being referred to a Committee, the Petitioners likewise pray, That they may be heard by the Committee against the said other Petitioners.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the said Committee.

Aire and Calder Navigation.

Sir John Kay reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill for making the Rivers Aire and Calder, in the County of York, navigable, was committed, That they had considered the Petitions to them referred; and made several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and upon the Question put thereupon, all, except Clause E, agreed unto by the House.

Clause E being read a * * time, That * * * *;

And the Question being put, That the House do agree with the Committee in the said Amendment;

It passed in the Negative.

A Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, for the Commissioners to abate the Price of Carriage of Goods:

And the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, to exempt the Inhabitants of Pontefract and Knottingly from paying any Duty, except Freight, for their own Goods, that shall pass up the River Aire to Knottingly Mills, and thence down to Hull:

And the same was twice read.

And the Question being put, That the Clause be made Part of the Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Another Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, for enabling the Undertakers to make By-laws for the better managing and preserving the Navigation of the said Rivers:

And the same was once read.

And the Question being put, That the Clause be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Another Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, That the Undertakers shall give all the Commissioners Notice when they are to meet:

And the same was once read.

And the Question being put, That the Clause be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

And other Amendments were made by the House to the Bill.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Ways and Means.

The House, according to the Order of the Day, resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supply granted to his Majesty.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Sir Thomas Littleton took the Chair of the Committee.

Sir Thomas Littleton reported from the said Committee, That they had come to several Resolutions; which they had directed him to report, when the House will please to receive the same.

Whitbourn Rectory.

The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act to annex the Rectory of Whitbourn in Herefordshire to the Bishoprick of Hereford: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House. Also,

Restraining Expence of Law Suits.

The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act to restrain the great Expence and Length of Suits in the Courts of Law and Equity: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

And then the Messengers withdrew.
