Wortley's Children's Maintenance.

A MOTION being made on the Behalf of Mr. Wortley, a Member of this House; shewing, That his Estate being settled upon him for Life, and, after his Decease, upon his Wife, for her Life; and no Provision being made for her Children during his Wife's Life, in case she survived him; and that his Wife being perverted to the Popish Religion, and gone beyond Sea without his Consent, his Children would be destitute of any Subsistence, in case she survived, but what they should receive from their Mother at her Will and Pleasure; who thereby might take Occasion to pervert them to the Popish Religion; and that for preventing thereof, he desired, That Leave might be given to bring in a Bill, to settle a competent Maintenance for his Children, during his Wife's Life, in case she survived him;

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill accordingly.

City of London's Rights and Liberties.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for restoring the City of London to its ancient Rights and Liberties.

Privilege of Members in a Suit.

Ordered, That Mr. White and Mr. Tho. Hussey have Leave to wave their Privilege in a Suit in Chancery between them, if they think fit so to do.

Duke of Buckingham's Estate.

A Bill for the better enabling the Trustees of the late Duke of Buckingham to sell his Estate, for Payment of his Debts, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Christye, Sir John Brownlow, Lord Sherrard, Sir Dun. Colchester, Mr. Stockdale, Major Manley, Sir Math. Andrews, Mr. Reynell, Sir PatienceWard, Mr. Ellwell, Colonel Greenvile, Sir Rob. Sawyer, Mr. Sherrard, Sir Wm. Honeywood, Mr. Bockland, Sir Wm. Ashurst, Mr. Courtney, Mr. Buscawen, Sir Fra. Guybon, Sir Tho. Mackworth, Sir John Carye, Mr. Done, Mr. Smith, Mr. Preston, Mr. Blowfeild, Sir Cha. Wyndham, Mr. Arnold, Mr. Paten, Sir Trevor Williams, Sir Hen. Goodrick, Mr. Newport, Sir Jos. Duke of Buckingham's Estate.

A Petition of Frances Lady Brudenell, on Behalf of herself, and Eliz. Countess of Castlehaven, and Mary Cary, her Sisters, Grandchildren of Christopher late Earl of Anglesey, who was uncle of Geo. late Duke of Bucks, was read; thereby setting forth, That, by the Bill brought for Sale of the Duke's Estate, whereby his Debts may be paid, the Equity of Redemption thereof is claimed by his Heir, an Infant; whereby the Petitioners are like to be much prejudiced, they being the right Heirs of the Duke, and are not taken notice of in the Bill: And praying to be heard before the Committee to whom the Bill is referred.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill for the better enabling the Trustees of the late Duke of Buckingham to sell his Estate, for Payment of his Debts, is referred: And that Mr. Done be added to the Committee.

Judgments on Scandalis Magnatum.

A Bill to reverse Two Judgments given in the King's Bench, in Two Actions brought by the Duke of Beaufort against Sir Trevor Williams, Baronet, and John Arnold, Esquire, upon the Statute de Scandalis Magnatum; and to discharge an Action brought by the Duke against John Dutton Colt, Esquire, upon the said Statute; was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Sir John Moreton, Mr. Brodrep, Sir Wm. Pinsent, Sir Pat. Ward, Sir Fra. Blake, Mr. Freake, Mr. Smith, Major Manley, Sir Math. Cooke's Estate.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Miles Cooke and Mr. Kecke.

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for enabling of Trustees to sell the Lands of Richard Cooke, deceased, to pay Debts, and raise a Portion for his Daughter: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

East India Trade.

A Petition of Thomas Skynmer * * * *.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee appointed to consider of the East India Trade; and how it may be managed to the best Advantage of the Nation; to examine the Matter, and make their Report thereof to the House.

Aulnage Duty.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for collecting the Duty of Aulnage at the Custom-House.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Morley have Leave to go into the Country for a Fortnight.

Supply Bill; Duty on Coffee.

A Bill for collecting the Duty upon Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate, at the Custom-house, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, That the House do, To-morrow Morning at Ten of the Clock, resolve into a Committee of the whole House upon the said Bill.

Ordered, That Leave be given to offer to that Committee a Clause for Liberty to import Spices from Foreign Countries in English Ships, although the said Spices are not of the Growth or Product of the said Countries.

Supply Bill; new Buildings.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Clause, to the Bill for taxing new Buildings, to prevent any further Building upon new Foundations about London for the future.

Ways and Means.

Then the House resolved into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of Ways to raise the rest of the Supply given to their Majesties.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Hamden took the Chair of the Committee.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hamden reports from the Committee of the whole House, that they, having taken the Matter to them referred into Consideration, had agreed upon a Resolution; which they had directed him to report to the House: The which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same was read; and is as followeth; viz.

Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That, as a further Means of raising of a Supply to be given to their Majesties, there be a further Sum of One Shilling in the Pound, for One Year, laid upon all Persons and Estates, charged by an Act of this present Parliament, intituled, An Act for a Grant to their Majesties of an Aid of Two Shillings in the Pound, for One Year.

The said Resolution being read a Second time;

Resolved, That the House doth agree with the Committee, That, as a further Means of raising a Supply to be given to their Majesties, there be a further Sum of One Shilling in the Pound, for One Year, laid upon all Persons and Estates, charged by an Act for a Grant to their Majesties of an Aid of Two Shillings in the Pound, for One Year.

Ordered, That Mr. Attorney General, and Mr. Solicitor General, do prepare and bring in the Bill.

Members to attend Lords as Counsel.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Williams and Mr. Finch have Leave to attend the Lords, as Counsel, in a Cause between Cooke and Founteine.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees be revived.
