Prayers.
Delays at Quarter Sessions.
SIR Joseph Tredenham reported from the Committee to whom the Bill to prevent the Delay of Proceedings at the Quarter Sessions of the Peace, was committed, That they had made some Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and afterwards a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.
And some other Amendments were proposed to be made in the Bill; and agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended by Mr. Speaker in the Chair accordingly.
Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.
Newark Election.
A Petition of the Inhabitants of Newark in the County of Nottingham was read; setting forth, That the Right of Election of Members to serve in Parliament does lie in the Inhabitants of the said Borough, who do pay, or ought to pay, Scot and Lot: That, at the Election of a Member to serve in the room of Nicholas Anderson, Esquire, deceased, many of the Inhabitants who had a Right to vote, were denied their Voices: And though Sir Richard Earle, Baronet, was duly elected; yet the Mayor of the said Town hath unduly returned Sir Francis Molyneux: And praying the Consideration of the House in the Premises. And also,
Ditto.
A Petition of Sir Richard Earle, Baronet, was read; setting forth, That, although the Petitioner was duly elected a Member to serve in this present Parliament, for the Borough of Newark, Com' Nottingham, in the room of Nicholas Saunderson; Esquire, deceased; yet the Mayor of the said Town has unduly returned Sir Fran. Molyneux, in wrong to the Petitioner's Right; and praying Relief in the Premises.
Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petitions be referred to the Committee of Elections and Privileges: And that they do examine the Matter thereof; and report the same, with their Opinions therein, to the House.
Preserving Game.
A Bill for Preservation of the Game against Poachers, was read the First time.
Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.
Hair Buttons.
Sir Robert Cotton reported from the Committee to whom the Bill for prohibiting the Importation of all foreign Buttons made of Hair, and all other Foreign Buttons, was committed, That they had made some Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.
Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.
Aulnage Duty.
An ingrossed Bill for transferring the Collection of the Duty of Aulnage to the Custom-house, and for giving a Recompence to the Crown for the same, was read the Third time.
An Amendment was proposed to be made in Press 2. L. 14. to leave out "for;" and insert "that:"
And the same was, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.
Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for transferring the Collection of the Duty of Aulnage to the Custom-house, and for giving a Recompence to the Crown for the same.
Ordered, That Sir Robert Davers do carry the Bill to the Lords; and desire their Concurrence thereunto.
Importing Saltpetre.
A Bill for the Importation of Saltpetre, notwithstanding the Act of Navigation, was read the Second time.
Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Sir Edward Seymour, Sir Sam. Dashwood, Sir Hen. Goodrick, Mr. Blowfield, Mr. Boscowen, Mr. Burdet, Sir Jos. Herne, Mr. Goldwell, Sir Math. Andrewes, Sir Ro. Cotton, Sir Robert Davers, Mr. Clark, Sir Fran. Drake, Mr. Waller, Mr. How, Sir Chr. Musgrave, Mr. Hutchinson, Sir Pet. Colliton, Mr. Slater, Sir Tho. Littleton, Mr. Thornhaugh, Mr. Cooke, Mr. Gwyn, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Pollen, Mr. Stokes, Mr. Hill, Mr. Fawkes, Colonel Perry, Mr. Osburne: And they are to meet To-morrow at Four a Clock in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber.
Leave of Absence.
Ordered, That Mr. Mitton have Leave to go into the Country for a Fortnight, for Recovery of his Health.
Ways and Means.
Resolved, That this House do immediately resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider farther of Ways and Means for raising the Supply to be granted to their Majesties, for the carrying on a vigorous War against France.

Mr. Attorney General took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
Mr. Attorney General reported from the said Committee, That they had made a farther Progress in the Matter to them referred; and had directed him to move the House, that they may have Leave to sit again.
Resolved, That this House will, upon Wednesday Morning next, at Ten a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supply to be granted to their Majesties, for the carrying on a vigorous War against France.
