Same to the Customs Commissioners, enclosing an Order of Council [missing] on the memorial of Monsieur Van Citters, Ambassador from the States General, concerning 60 pieces of taffeta belonging to Daniel le Motte and other Dutch merchants, which were seized at Harwich and sent to Ipswich as being French goods. If you find the said taffetas are really made in Holland you are to consider of such a regulation for importing those taffetas for the future as is directed by said Order of Council. Ibid.

William Jephson to the Customs Commissioners to report on the petition of Nicholas Trewick, shewing that he was a tidesman at Newcastle and discovered that the officers defrauded the Crown of 30l. per an., for which they got him displaced ; therefore praying to be heard "that he may know what is alleged against him." Feb. 22. Same to Aaron Smith of the Order in Council upon the petition of Francis Street concerning the discovery of certain lands to the value of 120l. per an. in or near the parish of Ashborne, co. Derby, settled to superstitious uses, which petitioner prays may be settled as an augmentation to the vicarage of Newark upon Trent and he to be admitted tenant thereto. William Jephson to the Customs Commissioners to order the Customs officers at Chester or elsewhere to permit Dr. Walker to carry into Ireland eight or ten horses and arms, provisions, clothes and other necessaries, Customs free, on his affidavit that they are his own and for his own use. Same to Mr. Williamson. On the 20th inst. I wrote you to reserve 2,000l. for Danish Troops, ut supra, p. 510. I am now to tell you there will be occasion only for 1,500l. and this my Lords desire you to pay to Col. Donep or the officer commanding his Regiment of Horse at Newcastle. If you have not so much money, get it advanced and my Lords will make allowance for it ; but if you cannot get the whole sum pay them at least 1,000l. and tell them "that it is all that can be got on this side Scotland, that they may not stop their march in expectation of more." I have written to Mr. Isaacson to assist you herein if necessary. Confer with him so as to prevent paying more than the 1,500l. designed them [the Danish Troops]. Same to abovesaid Mr. Isaacson to assist Mr. Williamson if he cannot pay said 1,500l. Mr. Blathwayt has shewed my Lords yours of the 18th inst. complaining that Mr. Herriott has demurred to the payment of your bills. My Lords are very sensible of the inconveniences that these delays may have put you to, but they have already ordered money for the satisfaction of those bills and will take care that they be duly complied with hereafter and they desire you to give what assistance you can in procuring this [1,500l.] money, "which will be an acceptable service to his Majesty." Same to Aaron Smith of the petition of James Herbert, esq., for a grant of the interest which Sir Edward Scott, late of Kent, had in a lease of the rectory and tithes of Milton, alias Middleton, co. Kent, by grant from the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury [which said Scott] is now in actual rebellion against the King, whereby said lease is forfeit. Ibid.
Treasury order for the execution of a warrant of Feb. 23 inst. from the Earl of Dorset, Lord Chamberlain, to Sir Gilbert Talbott, Treasurer of the Jewel House, for the provision and delivery of plate as follows for the service of the King and Queen : viz. : four silver sconces of the same work and fashion as those in the Queen's withdrawing room "to supply those that were stolen" and for the repairing of the silver branch and other sconces which were broken by the thieves who lately broke into the room and stole the plate. It will be of great service to his Majesty if you can speedily pay any sum not exceeding 5,000l. to Mr. Israel Feilding at Berwick or Carlisle or both for the Danish Forces ; or if you can get credit for same. Feb. 25. Same to the Attorney General of the memorial of Mr. Danvers, shewing that the late King when Duke of York obtained a judgment in ejectment against him for the manor of Dauntley [Dauntsey], whereupon he (Danvers) brought a writ of error : therefore praying that someone may appear to said writ so that same may be heard. Ibid.
Royal warrant to the Earl of Ranelagh, Paymaster of the Forces, to pay Henry, Visct. Sidney, 469l. 6s. 6d. for so much paid to the soldiers of the 17 Companies of the First Regiment of Guards for subsistence, ut supra, pp. 502-3, 512 : the said Paymaster having, by royal warrant, paid 995l. 15s. 6d. to the Agent of said Regiment for three weeks' subsistence to March 21 last, but after receiving 469l. 6s. 6d. thereof the said 17 Companies dispersed themselves and did not embark : and by the royal warrant of Sept. 10 last the Paymaster General was ordered to make out debentures only for the offreckonings and officers' pay of said Companies for the month of March last ; by means whereof the officers will not have any allowance of said 469l. 6s. 6d. so paid to the soldiers for subsistence : which difficulty the present warrant is to provide for. Appending : (a) order of the King in Council, dated Whitehall, Feb. 20 inst., referring to the Treasury Lords the petition of the East India Company, praying that the ship Modena, 770 tons, 120 mariners, may be protected and permitted to proceed on her voyage to the East Indies with goods and stores for the supply of the Company's garrisons and factories there, without which they will be exposed to great hazard, the Company having, by reason of the embargo, been unable last season to send out so great a quantity of tonnage as was requisite.

Same to Mr. Feilding. In reply to yours of the 20th inst., my Lords have ordered 2,100l. to be paid to Mr. Harbord to answer the bills you have drawn on him or on Mr. Herriott. This I hope will support your credit "and that you may see that my Lords do all they can to furnish you with money for the service you are engaged in," I send you a copy of the above letter to Williamson about furnishing you with 5,000l. Ibid.
Same to the Excise Commissioners to pay into the Exchequer 6,000l. a week of Excise money distinct and apart from all the rest of that revenue : same is intended to be issued to the Treasurer of the Navy for the pay of the Yards, the first payment to be made on Tuesday next and to continue till 24,000l. be paid. Same to Robert Humfreys, deputy auditor of Wales, of the petition of John Hoblyn, esq., shewing that he has the inheritance of the lordship of Rinthim [Ruthin] in North Wales, out of which there is a debt of 900l. due to the Crown, for which the manor is extended ; that one Parry has been appointed to get in the said arrear to the Crown, but has received much more, and cannot be brought to account as he is now a prisoner in the King's Bench ; therefore praying to have the extent against the manor taken off and for an extent against Parry to bring him to account, petitioner being prepared to satisfy the King's debt in two years' time. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to give order to the officers of the Four and a Half per cent Duty in Barbados and the Leeward Isles to pay what shall remain of the proceed of that duty from Jan. 1 last (after satisfying the usual charges of the Government there and of the cost of management of said duty) to the Commander in Chief of said Islands to be by him applied towards the payment of the Duke of Bolton's Regiment of Foot and the Nevis Company in the West Indies as follows : and further to give directions to the officers of said revenue to send to us, the Treasury Lords, through you the acquittances of said Commander in Chief, so that the Paymaster of the Forces may be charged therewith and that tallies may be struck on the Customs Cashier for the regular discharge [of the officers so paying such sums].
Prefixing : order of the King in Council, dated Whitehall, Nov. 7 last, made upon a proposal from the Committee for Trade and Plantations : said proposal being that as the King has appointed said Regiment (whereof Henry Holt is Lieut. Col.) to go to the Caribbee Islands and that it be cleared to Jan. 1 next, therefore the abovesaid revenue be applied as above towards pay of said Regiment and of the Company of Foot at present remaining at Nevis upon account and that the remainder of their pay be satisfied by the Paymaster General of the Forces in England. The King hereby approves and orders same.
