The Treasury Lords [to the Commissioners for the
last Twelve Months' Assessment, as by the Act of
2 Wm. and Mary, Sess. 2, c. 1] for co. Oxford.
We are informed by Mr. Doyley, Receiver of the
said Aid for said county, that at the first general
meeting of the Commissioners 550l. per month
for 12 months was charged upon the five Chiltern
Hundreds, viz. Ewelme, Pirton, Lewknor, Langtree
and Binfield with the town of Henley, but they
have only paid 456l. 0s. 10d. per month thereon,
leaving an arrear of 1,127l. 10s. 0d. thereon for the
12 months. From the enclosed state of the case
[missing] it appears that the reason is that the
Commissioners of those Hundreds had no notice
given them of the day of the first general meeting,
nor was any appointment made at that meeting
what Commissioners should act for the respective
Hundreds, as is directed in the Act. You are
forthwith to re-assess the said arrear and have it
paid to the Receiver. |
