to be restored to his whole estate after previous
reprisals, for want of which he is disappointed of
the benefit intended him: therefore prays a grant
of the town and lands of Bealadrihid etc. in the
barony of Clanwilliam, co. Tipperary, which he
is informed were the property of him and his ancestors
and are now vested in the King and undisposed of
to any person entitled to reprisals by the Acts of
Settlement [and Explanation]. |

Royal warrant to the Treasury Lords to give warrant
to Phillip Ryley (lately employed in Dean Forest)
with the assistance of the officers of Dean Forest,
co. Gloucester, and with approbation of two of
the Justices of Peace of the county, to cut away
so much holly, hawthorn, crooked beech, birch,
hazle and stoggall oaks in places as follow in said
forest as will produce 800l. per an. clear "for so
long time as the same may conveniently be raised
without any prejudice to the state of said forest";
and out of the moneys so to be raised to repair the
mounds and fences in such parts of said forest to
preserve them from the browsing of deer and cattle;
and to build pounds for cattle in some convenient
place in Lea Baily at a charge not exceeding 3l.:
rendering account of the whole before the auditor
for said county: all by reason that said Ryley has
reported the necessity of cutting said wood which
"may be converted to cordwood without danger
of overstocking the market where there are so
many furnaces and forges that want it and which
will never be timber or of greater value than now
they are but rather run more into decay by standing
longer"; and further he reported that 800l. clear
per an. may be raised thereout for many years to
come with advantage to the young oak and straight
beech; and further that by the Act [of 19 and 20
Car. II, c. 8] for preservation of said forest "we
[the king] may enclose of the waste ground in any
part of the said forest not exceeding 11,000 acres
at any one time and that there is now but 2,500
acres or thereabouts enclosed in the whole, whereby
the common is enlarged to the people and their
stock of cattle thereupon increased proportionately
and the said underwood and young timber growing
therewith [is] exposed to the injury of both; but
that were the underwoods cut and inclosures made
and kept until the younger timber should become
past danger of browsing of deer, cattle and other
prejudice" such parts so deemed safe might then
be laid open and other fresh parts cut and enclosed,
thus improving the condition of the timber in few
years: further that the cost of such enclosures will
be small, many of the grounds having been formerly
enclosed and others being bounded by the lands of
the freeholders: of all which report the King has
approved. |

3,000 short cords of holly, hawthorn and crooked
beech: needs not to be enclosed because of the
thickness of the timber that will be left standing
and because of the many highways through it.
In Edgehills and Badcock's Bayly 6,000 short cord
of crooked beech, hazle and holly: formerly enclosed
and easy to re-enclose. In Blyth's Bayly 3,500
short cord of crooked beech: bounded by freeholders' lands and only wants two gates. In
Moorwood 2,000 short cord of crooked beech and
in Hangerbury 4,000 ditto of crooked beech and
birch: formerly enclosed and easy to re-enclose.
In Bradley, the Copes and Bromehill 5,000 ditto
of beech, birch, holly and hazle: bounded partly
with a hedge and ditch and easy to re-enclose.
About Worcester Lodge, Wimberley, the Buckhold
and Cannop 10,000 ditto of beech, some birch and
hawthorn: fit to be enclosed. From Mosely
Gate down Blackpoole Brook to Blackney Furnace
and about Deadman's Cross 10,000 ditto of beech
and some hawthorn and birch: "this being very
full of trees that will be left standing for timber,
will not need enclosing." In the Fence of Stoggall
250 ditto of oaks that will never be timber: bounded
round with the lands of freeholders and only wants
two gates and three perches of hedges to enclose
it. In the heart of the forest from the brook betwixt
Seridge and Daniel Moor to the Dam-brook and so
to Sinderfad Bridge and thence along Middle Ridge
to Mosely Gate and thence along the way to the
top of Stonedge to Seridge and at Missy Hurst
6,250 short cords of old decaying hollies and of
hawthorn and birch. Total cords, 50,000: estimated

Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy
seal for the building of a gaol and shire house for
the county of Lincolnshire as follows. At the
Assizes and General Gaol Delivery of said county,
held at Lincoln Castle Mar. 8 last, before Sir Thomas
Street, kt., a Justice of Common Pleas, a fine of
1,000l. was imposed upon the said county for not
having a common gaol nor a shire house fitting
for the Justices of Assize to sit in. Of his grace
the King has resolved that no part of said fine
shall be converted to his use. It is therefore hereby
assigned to Sir Philip Tirwhit, bart., Sir Christopher
Nevill and Sir Edward Ayscough, kts., Henry
Hillyard and Edwd. King, in trust to be used for
buying and building such gaol and shire house.
The said fine is hereby to be raised in said county
in the most equal, just and indifferent method
and a true account thereof is to be given by the
sheriff of said county to said trustees to whom
he shall pay all his receipts thereof, deducting
only 1s. in the £ on such part of said fine as said
trustees shall apply to the expense and charges
of said gaol and shire house. |

the petition of Coja Panons Calender, an Armenian
merchant of Ispahan, chief city of Persia; petitioner
shewing that he contracted with the East India
Company for the introducing a great and novel
trade by the way of England ("your Majesty's
kingdom"), which will very much augment the
Customs and increase the English navigation if
encouraged: therefore praying (1) that the Armenian
nation may pay no other or greater Customs than
the King's born subjects do for all sorts of goods
"as well such as shall by them be bought or sold
into this empire as such which are brought to
transport": (2) that [seeing that] petitioner must
bring many sorts of goods of all parts of Europe
into this kingdom for the purpose only of transporting them again by sea into India, Persia,
Arabia and other Asiatick parts as they did before
by land [therefore pray] that such goods brought
for exportation may be taken into the Custom
House until the time of shipping them: (3) that
whereas Sir Jno. Chardin, your Majesty's loyal
subject (who was a chief instrument of the negotiation aforesaid), is engaged by agreement and contract
with petitioners to be their Agent and General
Commissioner and the King did consent to it,

Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to
dispense with the King's part of the seizure of 104
pieces of bone lace belonging to David Auber, but
to permit the officer who seized to enjoy his part
of the seizure, for his encouragement: the said
Auber coming lately from France and not being
permitted to bring any money out of that kingdom
did desire one Sezard Preque (who was bound for
France) to receive the said money and lay it out in
goods, which he did to the value of 50l. in the said
lace; which is seized to the utter ruin of petitioner
and his family, being his sole dependence for his
support. |

Report to the Treasury Lords from William Blathwayte [as Auditor of the Plantations] on the petition
of Lord Colepeper, praying a confirmation of his
grant of the Northern neck of Virginia, ut supra,
p. 2000. Hereon Blathwayte reports that the
great seal of 1669, May 8, granted to the Earl of
St. Albans, Lord Berkeley, Sir William Morton
and John Trethewy, their heirs and assigns for
ever, all that tract of land in America lying between
Rappahannock and Potowomac [Potomac] rivers,
together with the said river and the islands within
the banks thereof, under the annual rent of 6l. 13s. 10d.
provided that as to so much thereof as within
21 years should not be possessed, inhabited or
planted by the means or procurement of the said
grantees, the said grant should cease. The said
patent is entered in the Plantation Office. Lord
Colepeper has produced to me several deeds and
conveyances, shewing that the right and title of
the said patentees is legally vested in him. The
greatest and best part of the said tract is, as I am
informed, inhabited and planted according to the
intent of the said proviso; so that the proviso
having so far had its intended effect may now be
dispensed with, if his Majesty so think fit. |
