August 1685

Aug. 19. Extract of a letter from Col. Stede [from Barbados to William Blathwaite]. I hope to send you by the next my accompt and that I shall make some further discoveries of those accidental revenues to the King's benefit. I make no doubt thereof if the Lord Treasurer will allow to the informer some part of the recovery such as 2s. in the £, and the like to the Attorney General, who is a very diligent, honest and loyal gentleman, but never yet received any fees for any recovery he made for his Majesty's use. If this allowance be granted, besides the ordinary fees and charges to the several officers, I make no doubt but many things would be discovered and recovered that lie concealed. Out Letters (Plantations Auditor) I, p. 183.
