Report to the King from Treasurer Clifford on the petition of Sir
William Kerr (as by the order of reference of April 9), who
prays a remission and confirmation of a grant from James I. of
certain debateable lands lying between England and Scotland.
The said lands called Wester Stalford alias Whitefield and
Halden Rigg, co. Northumberland, were granted by King James
1606-7, 2 Jan., to Sir George Ramsey and Thomas Lumsden
and their heirs for ever. On inquisition they were found to
contain 1,200 acres valued at 49l. per an. It further appears
that there was a patent of grant of the premises passed under
the Great Seal of Scotland, in June 1660, to said Sir William
Kerr : by which the said lands in part or in all seem to lie
within the kingdom of Scotland ; and thereof seisin was
delivered unto him pursuant to the said patent as belonging to
him by grant derived from said Ramsey and Lumsden. A new
grant may reasonably be passed as desired : with the reserved
rent of 6s. 8d. per an., and with covenants for endeavouring
the recovering of said lands within the next 10 years.

Treasurer Clifford to the Northumberland Commissioners of
Assessment for the last poll concerning their neglect in not
assessing some part of the county nor causing same to be levied
and paid to the Receiver General in other parts of the county
where it was assessed and collected, and in not transmitting to
the Exchequer the duplicate of such assessments whereby the
certain charge on the county might be known. For several
years past letters have been written to you on this. Out of
respect I give you this further instruction to see the arrears in
the hands of any collector paid to Henry Brabant, Receiver
General thereof, and to forthwith transmit the duplicates for
the whole county to the King's Remembrancer's office.
