The Commissioners of Forfeitures attending with Sir Robert Constable, the Agent for Scotland, represent that by the smallness of the rents of the forfeiting persons, which are always paid in kind, which makes it necessary to employ several persons in the collecting of them, the office of an Agent is rendered useless, especially since by a late Act of Parliament [1 Geo. I, c. 50] the Commissioners are empowered to appoint stewards, factors, collectors &c. to execute all matters and things relating to the collection &c. of the rents of the estates forfeited.
The Commissioners of Forfeitures will pay Sir Robert Constable his salary to Xmas last from which time he is dismissed.
[My Lords order] Mr. Lowther to pay the [Exchequer] fees of the warrants for John Williams, Evert Jolyvet, Thomas Chauncey [on their orders] for 200l. each and [on the order] for 300l. to Henry Smith.
[My Lords direct] the Treasurer of the Navy to pay over to the Earl of Lincoln the sum of 52,000l. in Land Tax tallies anno 1718 remaining in his hands. And my Lords direct tallies for the like sum to be struck without interest on credit of the Malt [Duties] anno 1718 in the name of the Earl of Lincoln to be by him assigned to the Treasurer of the Navy [as] in lieu thereof. Mr. Godfry's report about Prince George of Denmark's servants and the petition of Thomas Cross, one of the same [Prince's servants]. My Lords cannot advise his Majesty to renew these pensions: but what is due to 'em in the [late] Queen's time will be paid with other [her late Majesty's] servants when there is money for them.

Mr. Hewett, late Surveyor of the Woods, Mr. Young, the present Surveyor, Mr. Molineux, one of the Verderers of Sherwood Forest, with Mr. Banks, his clerk, are called in. The reports of the Verderers dated 1 June 1716 and of Mr. Young dated 28 Feb. 1716–17, with a memorial of Mr. Digby and Mr. Molineux are read, complaining of some irregularities of Mr. Hewet to his Majesty's disadvantage and contrary to the Forest laws. Mr. Hewet's answer is also read and my Lords direct a copy thereof to be given to the Verderers and will appoint another day to consider of and determine this affair. Mr. Ireland [is] called in. His appointment to be deputy to the Earl of Halifax, Auditor of the Receipt of the Exchequer, is read and approved by my Lords and the usual oath of fidelity directed by an Act of Parliament 8 and 9 Wm. III., c. 28, is administered to him.
Mr. Beranger, Dr. Fauquiere and Mr. Nicoll are called in. My Lords ask Dr. Fauquiere in what manner the directions of the Treasury of the 2nd of October last for exposing to sale 500 tons of tin at 3l. 10s. 0d. per hundredweight were obeyed by him and the officers of the Mint.
He says that pursuant to their Lordships' directions an advertisement was inserted in the Gazette giving notice that such a quantity was to be sold at the said price.
My Lords say the notice [time] was so short that several pewterers and others could not be present at the opening of the sale, which occasioned the lowness of the price and consequently an advantage to particular persons.
Mr. Nicoll will attend the next week.
Prepare a warrant for 2,000l. to the Earl of Kinnoul out of the revenue of 4½ per cent. [or] out of the quit rents of Virginia in part of his arrears.
[Write] Sir Mathew Decker and Mr. Sloper to attend to-morrow to settle the rate of exchange between Hamburg and Hanover.
Prepare the warrants for the usual allowances to the Lord Chancellor.
Prepare a letter to recommend Mr. John Manley to Mr. Moor, the late Paymaster of the Forces, to be by him employed as a clerk.
Mr. Cholmley, the Surveyor General [of Crown Lands], is called in. His reports upon several petitions for leases are considered.
My Lords direct the several Constats and Particulars to be sent back to the [said] Surveyor, who is to express particularly what houses want immediate repairs so that they may require rebuilding in a short time.
And likewise desire him to be very careful in reporting the yearly value by which the future rent is to be governed.
Write to Mr. Boscawen to desire him to give the necessary orders for the making out of an account of the quantity of tin coyned in each of the three [Stannary] coynages last past and to transmit it to the Treasury with all possible expedition. Treasury Minute Book XXIV, pp. 31–2.

Sir Theodore Janssen is called in and lays before my Lords an account of what tin was put into his hands, what hath been sold, the interest due thereupon and what remains in the hands of his correspondents in Holland.
Mr. Beranger is called in. My Lords ask him at what price he can dispose of a quantity of the tin in his hands in Holland. He says he is informed by his agents there that he can have a market for 100 tons or a greater quantity at 3l. 10s. 0d. [per hundredweight] clear of all charges: which money is to be applied towards paying off the principal and interest grown due or to grow due to him thereupon, the first account to be made at Michaelmas and the rest every following quarter day till the debt is paid off.
