Same to the Attorney General to report his opinion on the three Queries enclosed upon the Act [Private Act 3 Geo. I., c. 19], lately passed in favour of Lady Panmure.
The Act enacts that it shall and may be lawful for the King as to him shall seem meet to make such provision for and settlement upon Margaret, wife of James, late Earl of Panmure, out of the estate real and personal of the said late Earl as she would have been entitled to in case her said husband were naturally dead.
Query (1): whether it be wholly in the King's pleasure to grant or not to grant upon this Act.
Query (2): whether in case of a grant his Majesty's power is so far prescribed by the Act that it must extend to the whole which the said Margaret would have been entitled to in case her husband were naturally dead, or whether his Majesty's grant may not be restrained to part.

Treasury reference to Hugh Cholmley, Surveyor General of Crown Lands, of the petition of Richard Goodricke shewing that in July 1707 he petitioned for a lease of a tenement called the Fryers at Richmond in Surrey; that the Surveyor General reported thereon, whereupon petitioner laid out 200l. in repairs, but endeavouring to abate the old rent, no lease passed: then in July 1714 he petitioned for a lease thereof and of a tenement adjoining and a barge house under: that the Surveyor General reported thereon: that during this time Evan Williams who had a mortgage on the premises never opposed petitioner's proceedings: that petitioner being a Captain of Foot and obliged to go to Ireland on his Majesty's service the said Williams in his absence petitioned for a lease and on reference the Surveyor General reported thereon 5 Jan. 1715–16 and on 20 July last [1717] a warrant for a particular was signed: that the said Williams's proceedings were unknown to petitioner and took no notice of petitioner's proceedings: that no lease is [yet] passed [to Williams] and petitioner has paid the old rent of 10l. per an. Same to Samuel Burton, Esq., Receiver of the rents of the Savoy, of the petition of the Chapel Warden of the Savoy et al. shewing that Thomas Murfey, Deputy Marshal, has (under pretence of wanting room) taken possession of several houses in the Savoy occupied by persons paying to the Poors' Tax, which he lets out to Serjeants, soldiers and their families at 6d. or 12d. per week per room, whereby a great charge hath arisen to the Precinct of the Savoy by several children being dropt &c. since the Barracks there by death, desertion or turning out several bastard children &c. have been and are chargeable to the said Precinct: that some large houses in the Strand within the said Precinct have stood empty a long time and the petitioners are obliged to make good the moneys assessed on the occupiers thereof for the use of the poor: that the Chapel and Chapel yard in the Savoy have been constantly repaired by the Master of the Savoy, for want of which the same are now very much out of repair and if not speedily prevented will become ruinous: therefore pray that the chapel and chapel yard may be repaired out of the revenues of the Hospital and that petitioners and their successors may have the benefit of any moneys arising henceforth by the Bell and Burial Ground in the said Chapel and Chapel Yard, being computed at 15l. per an. towards the relief of their poor so increased. Same to Mr. Chetwynd of the petition of Guy Palmes, Esq., shewing that he has contracted several debts and is now come to some agreement with his creditors who have consented to accept one moiety of his pension of 600l. per an., but there is a clause in the [Pensions] Establishment which directs the payment of the said pension to his hands only and not to the hands of any assignee: therefore praying directions that said surety may be paid to Thomas Pembroke, Esq., trustee for the creditors. Royal warrant dated St. James's to the Treasury Lords to pay 45,000l. to James, Earl of Carnarvon, as imprest “for better enabling us to concert such measures with Foreign Princes and States as might prevent any charge or apprehensions from the designs of Sweden for the future ”: in accordance with the Act of 3 Geo. I., c. 7, clause 41, appropriating 250,000l. for the said purpose out of the Aids and Supplies therein mentioned: and is to be by him paid over for that purpose according to such warrants as he shall receive from us under our sign manual in that behalf: since the making of which Act several sums have been issued in part of the said 250,000l. The Regiments that come from Ireland upon occasion of the late Rebellion do object against the charge made on them for transports.
