June 21. Royal sign manual for 1,500l. to Moses Beranger of London, merchant: without account: being to answer the value paid or to be paid upon bills of exchange drawn on him by his Majesty's Ministers at the Hague “for the like sum taken up there by them for services specially ordered by us and to which we are satisfied they have employed the same,” viz., 800l. on three bills drawn on April 12, 22 and 30 by William Leathes, Esq., late our Minister at the Hague; and 700l. on three bills drawn April 24, May 16 and 27 by Charles Whitworth, Esq., now Envoy and Plenipotentiary there. Royal sign manual for 525l. to George, Lord Lansdown, for 1¾ years' rent to Lady day last for Mote Park (which was laid into Windsor Great Park); and 36l. 16s. 6d. for the [Exchequer] fees and charges on the receipt of said sum. Same to the Commissioners for stating the Debts of the Army enclosing for their consideration the petition and annexed papers [all missing] of John Rope, storekeeper at Alicante, praying payment of 222l. 12s. 0d. owing to him. Ibid.
Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Christopher Shuter, Abra[ham] Hook and Geo. Mason of the City of Bristol, merchants, collateral securities for George Harvey of Bristol, merchant, deceased, shewing that they have paid all the principal money due on their bonds, therefore praying remission of the interest [due thereon] and to have their security [bonds] delivered up. Same to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of Geo. Trenchard, Esq., on behalf of himself and the rest of the securities of John Bowdidge, late Receiver General of Taxes for Co. Somerset, shewing that Bowdidge is indebted to the Crown in a great sum of money and has withdrawn himself and left his securities [liable] and they are now under prosecution: therefore praying stay of process. Royal warrant dated St, James's to the Keeper of the Seal appointed to be kept in place of the Great Seal of Scotland, and to the Barons of the Exchequer in Scotland, to pass the grant to John Ewing of the office of Chamberlain and Collector of Crown rents issuing out of the estates of Orkney and Zetland, with 500l. per an. thereout for 21 years terminable on the life of the King: according to the tenour of the warrant of April 9 last, supra, p. 248, and notwithstanding the warrant of June 5 inst., supra, p. 365. June 21. Same, dated same, nominating, constituting and appointing Archibald Murray to be Collector of the Bishops' rents in Scotland (Sole and General Collector of all the rents, revenues, few farms and teind Duties and profits whatsoever formerly belonging to and in use to be uplifted by the Archbishops, Bishops and Deans within the Archbishoprics of St. Andrews, Bishoprics of Edinburgh, Galloway, Brechin, Dunkeld, Dunblane, Aberdeen, Murray and Caithness, excepting the rents, revenues and casualties of the Deanery of the Chapel Royal now granted to William Mitchell, one of his Majesty's Chaplains) for the cropt and year 1715 onwards. (This warrant replaces the warrant of Feb. 8 last, supra, pp. 137–38, and is itself cancelled and replaced by the warrant of 1717 Oct. 17, infra, p. 617.) Ibid., pp. 86–8.

Treasury reference to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of John Harneis, Esq., shewing that he was Receiver General of Taxes for part of Co. Lincoln and hath cleared all his accompts except the Land Tax anno 1716: that he is now stating his accounts of the Duties on houses to Lady day 1716 and will pay in the balance in a few days: that he has large arrears [still to come in] in the country and hath Bills [bills of exchange] in the Bank for 3,500l. which will be shortly paid and also other good notes for 4,352l. which shall be paid into the Exchequer as soon as received, which with 400l. in arrear on the Land Tax anno 1716 will near clear that account: therefore prays that in regard process is issued against him it may be stopped till Michaelmas next, by which time the whole debt shall be paid in. Same to same of the petition of John Wroth, Esq., Receiver General of Taxes for Co. Essex, for the years 1715 and 1716, praying [payment of] his extraordinary charges in bringing up his moneys to the Exchequer by strong guards, which charges, by a bill annext, amount to 300l. Ibid.
Same to same of the petition of William Pacey, Receiver General of Taxes for part of Co. Norfolk 1705–1715, inclusive, praying payment of 700l. for his like charges for his extraordinary expenses in returning up [to the Exchequer] the public moneys, as by a bill annexed [missing], attested on oath. Same to same of the petition of Thornhagh Gurdon. Esq., late Receiver General of Taxes for part of Co. Norfolk for the years 1711 to 1714 inclusive, praying payment of 170l. for the like expenses, appearing by a like bill. Ibid.
Treasury warrant to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease under the Exchequer seal to Thomas Pitt the elder (in the margin the Rt. Honourable Mr. Stanhope) of a messuage in Whitehall Palace near the Cockpit, ut supra, pp. 373–4.
Prefixing. constat and memorandum and ratal of the premises made out by Hugh Cholmley, Surveyor General of Crown Lands. The premises stand on the west side of the street leading from Charing Cross to Westminster, and abut east on the Rt. Honourable Hugh Boscawen's house in part and in other part on St. James's park to the north, on part of the garden belonging to the Scotch Secretary's Office to the west, and on other part of the Cockpit now used as part of the Secretary of State's Office to the south.

June 24. Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of John Taylor, master of the ship Jane; Mathew Ayres, master of the ship Barbary; George Balderston, master of the ship Villa de Conda; John Sparrow, master of the ship Society; and William Barker, master of the ship Sarah and Luddia, shewing that they did by charter parties let their several ships to freight to one Mr. Manasseth Whitehead of London, merchant, for a voyage from hence to Portugal and back and that they did proceed to Portugal and back again with wine; that the said Whitehead although often required hath ever since their arrival contrary to charter party refused to unload their ships: therefore praying that they may unload them and put the wine into his Majesty's warehouse. Treasury warrant to the King's Remembrancer to take new security for James Bayley, Esq., as Receiver General of the Duties on Houses for Co. Stafford.

Same to the Customs Commissioners and the Excise Commissioners in Scotland to pay the yearly fee or salary of 200l. to James Hamilton, whom the Treasury Lords have appointed and hereby do appoint to be assistant to the respective solicitors of the revenues under your management (Assistant Solicitor to the Customs and Excise in Scotland): whereof 120l. per an. is to be charged on the Customs and 80l. per an. on the Excise.
