Royal warrant dated St. James's to Henry, Earl of Lincoln, to pay 200l. per an. to James Craggs, present Secretary at War: as from March 25 last and is for the rent of a house for him to reside in, “there being none in our gift vacant at present”: all by reason that in the reign of Wm. III the Secretary at War was always allowed by the Crown a house for his residence; and it is the King's intention to confer the same favour on the said Craggs “as we did to his predecessor.” King's Warrant Book XXVIII, p. 245.

and also the messuage or house with the yard or backside thereto on the said Field in a certain street there called Jermyn Street, on the south side thereof, lying between the said street and the ground or buildings of — Belton on the south, and abuting east on the messuage of — Davis, and west on a messuage or house now or late in the possession of Sir George Rooke; the said premises containing 18 feet by 39 feet and now in the tenure of Mary Fyson her undertenents or assigns.
and also a messuage or tenement with the yard or garden behind the same, in or near the said Jermyn Street on the north side thereof and abutting east and north on the messuage of Thomas Thetcher, and west on the messuage of — Ludbee, joiner; the said premises containing 20 feet by 109 and now or late in the tenure of Capt. John Gelley.

The present lease is to be for 26 years from Michaelmas 1740 at a rent of 18l. 7s. 6d. per an. for the additional term and a rent of 6l. per an. on each house until the said additional rent becomes payable; and fine of 95l.

Treasury warrant to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease to Peter Gavell of 8 several messuages, tenements or houses standing together on part of the ground called the Round Rundles and Swallow Field, late in the parish of St. Martins in the Fields and now in the new parish of St. James's within the liberty of Westminster; one of them being a corner house now or late in the possession of Thomas Ayris, fronting towards Glasshouse Street north and Great Swallow Street west; and the other several houses now are or late were in the several tenures of Mr. Eves, Mr. Hancock, Mr. Barefoot, Mr. Worsley, Mr. Pritchard and Ralph Kentish, all of them fronting towards Great Swallow Street, the corner house containing 34 feet in front towards Glasshouse Street, and all the eight houses (including the gateway at the south end thereof) containing 182 feet in front towards the said street.
and also all the stable yard, also parcel of the Round Rundles and Swallow Field aforesaid, called Baxter's Stable Yard or the Black Bull Yard, in or near the two streets called Great Swallow Street and Vine Street, being partly behind the said seven messuages and bounded south by the ground and buildings heretofore of Mrs. Haynes and now of Peter Gavell, and north by the ground or buildings of Mr. Fynch and Mr. Burrell; the said premises containing 48 feet by 147 feet and now are or late were in the tenure of John Lanyon and Robert Billings.

and also a parcel of ground also part of the said Round Rundles and Swallow Field, fronting Little Swallow Street on the south and Vine Street on the east, and bounded west by the ground of Mr. Morgan, and north by the preceding item as above; which said premises contain 40 feet fronting Swallow Street and 101 feet in depth: the said last two pieces of ground being in the tenure of — Haynes, widow.
and also that piece of ground in part of Swallow Field fronting west towards Swallow Street and east towards Vine Street, and bounded north by the ground of Mr. Baxter and of Mary Haynes widow (now in the possession of — Wheeler), and of Mary Loveday; which said premises contain 40 feet by 138 feet.
and also two several messuages or tenements and a backhouse standing on the said piece or parcel of ground last mentioned, and fronting towards Swallow Street and are in the tenures of Peter Gavell and Henry West: and the said Backhouse [Bakehouse] lieth next to Vine Street and now is or late was in the possession of Mary Haynes, together with all ways, easements, &c., “which said several messuages or tenements and premises are scituate, lying and being upon a certain close or piece of ground called Swallow Field, together with a parcel of ground called the Round Rundles, thereto adjoining eastwards, extending from the south end of Ayre Street westwards along the Great Roadway to a certain late erected house now or late in the possession of one — Chipp, and from thence northward along the side of the ground heretofore called the Conduit Field to the end thereof in a right line to the Backway leading behind the said field called Swallow Feild and Conduit Field, and from thence along that Backway eastward to the north end of Ayr Street aforesaid and from thence down the said Ayr Street to the Great Road aforesaid, all or a great part thereof now likewise built upon.”
The present lease is to be for 33 years from Lady day 1734 at a rent of 16l. 10s. 0d. per an. during the said additional term and fine of 88l. and rent of 6l. per an. on each of the tenements from date of the lease until the additional rent becomes payable.

The number of the bills of exchange sent up to the [our] Office of [by] our Collectors is very much increased by the several new Duties under our management; and the carrying them out for acceptance and for receiving payment for such of them as are not drawn payable at our Office proves a very great hindrance to the clerks in attending on their further business, [the office] having had no billman hitherto. Same to John How, Esq., late Paymaster General of Guards, Garrisons and other the Land Forces, to pay to the Officers of the Royal Regiment of Dragoons 291l. 17s. 4d. in addition to their clearing from 25 Aug. 1712 to 23 June 1713; being to supply the difference between 7d. a day and 6d. a day for a deduction out of the pay of each serjeant, corporal, drum, hautboy and dragoon of the said regiment as being unmounted within that time; it appearing by a report from the Comptrollers of Army Accounts that the said Officers were charged on the said clearings with a deduction of 7d. per diem from each man, whereas according to the Regulation by which they accounted with such their men for their pay there remained only a deduction of 6d. a day from each man as being unmounted and that it is reasonable to allow the difference of 1d. a day for each dismounted man.
Appending: said report dated Comptrollers' Office March 5 last to the Treasury Lords in reply to the order of reference of Jan 14 last supra, p. 100, on the memorial of the Field Officers and Captains of the Royal Dragoons; said memorial setting forth that after they were taken prisoners at Brihuega their men had but 6d. a day deducted as unmounted according to a Regulation from the Pay Office sent to Col. Nevill into Spain; and after their landing in England in Jan. 1712–13 they were still paid according to the same Regulation, but on adjusting their clearings from 25 Aug. 1712 to 23 June 1713 the Pay Office deducted 7d. a day. Hereon the Comptrollers report that the facts are true and that the inconveniences the Officers lie under arise from want of due notice being taken of the time when the Regiment came on the Establishment of Guards and Garrisons, viz., in Jan. 1712–13.
