Write to the Duke of Roxburgh to procure a pardon for John Crawford, collector of Borrowstounness, who with his assistant officers fired upon a party of mob who attempted to rescue a seizure of prohibited goods; his Majesty having signified his pleasure that the same be prepared accordingly.
[Write to the Principal] Officers of the Mint to attend on Wednesday next week at 11 o'clock.
His Majesty being pleased, pursuant to a Resolution of the House of Commons, to order the lands of St. Christopher vested in the Crown by the late Treaty of Peace, [to] be sold to the best advantage, my Lords desire the Commissioners for Trade and Plantations to make out particulars of the said lands in order to the sales thereof and likewise that they will please to transmit to my Lords such surveys of the value and purchase of the said lands as they have in their possession or can procure, as also any accounts or informations relating thereunto together with their opinions.
Write to the Auditor of the Receipt to inspect the allowances which have been usually made to prisoners in the Tower for their diet &c. and [to] transmit the same to my Lords.

Upon reading a petition of Lord Strathnaver praying that the two warrants signed by his Majesty in his behalf (viz. one appointing him Chamberlain of Ross &c. and the other granting him 500l. per an. out of the rents and Duties of the said Chamberlainry and collection), as also a representation from the Barons of Exchequer in Scotland setting forth that the rents of the said collection which communibus annis amount but to 600l. sterling yearly [and] is charged with a prior gift of 200l. per an. upon which there is an arrear of three years chargeable and the remainder appointed by his Majesty for other uses, therefore the [said] Barons thought fit to stop the execution of the said warrants till my Lords' further pleasure be known), my Lords direct a letter to be sent to the [said] Barons setting forth that since their Lordships [of the Exchequer, Scotland] in their said representation hope some other way will be found out to gratify his Lordship [therefore the Treasury Lords hereby write] desiring them to propose some method either that the said gift may be made effectual without prejudice to Mr. Moor's arrears (whose gift is meant to be superseded by this grant) or any other way their Lordships will propose.

My Lords upon hearing a report from the Customs Commissioners on the petition of Mathew Wright and John Catesby concerning a parcel of cocoa which was shipped for exportation and seized by Mr. Canby, an officer of the Customs, were pleased to agree with the report of the said Commissioners (two of their number being present) that the officer should be left at liberty to proceed to trial at his own charge.

Essex, craving allowance for the said “services” [for extraordinary charges and expenses in his receipt and in the forwarding of his moneys to the Exchequer] pursuant to a report of the Agents for Taxes certifying the same to be due, are pleased to order as followeth both in relation to him and the rest of the Receivers [General] who have allowances reported due to them: viz.
there being near 20,000l. due to Receivers who have passed their accounts and are to be paid their allowances out of arrears of Land Tax which are applicable to this, pursuant to a late Act [the Act for continuing the Duties on Malt &c. 3 Geo. A letter is read from the Lord Chamberlain transmitting an Establishment of the travelling charges of the Gentlemen of the Chapel signed by his Majesty. Write to the Treasurer of the Chamber to certify my Lords how much the Establishment exceeds that for his Lordship's [the said Chamber Treasurer's] Office, as also to make a computation what this will amount to.

Lord Stanhope having laid before the King a Representation of the Commissioners of Customs in Scotland about insults committed upon their officers hath received his Majesty's pleasure upon the following particulars:
The Commissioners desire an additional number of boatmen at the several ports to prevent the running of goods.
The Commissioners [are] to inform my Lords whether they can make any retrenchment of the number of land officers if this be agreed to.
The Commissioners desire [that] the boatmen may be allowed the use of firearms for their defence and [for] the better guard of the coast by water.
Write to the Attorney General for his opinion.
The Commissioners think a Bill to make the laws relating to the Customs more extensive and effectual [is] absolutely necessary.
The Commissioners to prepare such a Bill to be laid before the Parliament the next Session.
Prepare a warrant for paying 1,000l. to the Lord Chancellor for his equipage and other charges as Lord High Steward upon the late trial [of the Earl of Oxford] before the House of Peers on an impeachment for high treason.
Send to the Auditor of [the Duchy of] Cornwall to inform my Lords who is the present Receiver of the Land Revenue in Cornwall and by what authority he holds the said office.
[My Lords order] Mr. Lowndes to compute the profit and loss on the late Tin Contract. A letter to be sent to him in the country.

The petition of the Hackney coachmen [is read] relating to and setting forth several hardships put upon them by the Commissioners [for Licensing Hackney Coachmen] and likewise the draft [is read] of a clause [which the said coachmen propose] to be offered to the Parliament whereby they propose to advance the sum of 10,000l. for the use of his Majesty upon condition their licences for the remainder of their term of 32 years may be assignable by will or otherwise.
The said petition and clause were referred to the Commissioners for Licensing Hackney Coaches &c., who thereupon returned an answer to the said petition and made several amendments and alterations in the clause, copies of both which have been given to the Hackney coachmen by my Lords' order, who have made a reply thereto in answer to the several articles of defence made by the Commissioners and have annexed two affidavits made by two of their number against Mr. Sutton, one of the [said] Commissioners, for bribery &c.
