Aug. 29 [sic ? for 27.] Present: Earl of Shaftesbury, Lord Clifford.
Write to the Commissioners of the Navy to attend to-morrow morning, but in the meantime write to them that my Lords cannot understand what they mean by their general return. In the margin: Sir Robt. Howard to come with them this afternoon. Memorandum: about cabbage ("cabedge") and carrots and fruits.
Send to Auditor Aldworth to take the Earl of Carbery's accounts. [Aldworth] to come to me [Sir. Ro. Howard].
Write to Mr. Knoles to make a return concerning Philpott's business [about] cutting down wood in New Forest: Philpott was to have some recompence and complains because he is delayed.
Alderman Blackett shews his orders. My Lords order that the returns should be made accordingly.
The Victuallers [of the Navy are] called in. [Ordered by my Lords that] "8,000l. to the Victualler to be paid by Sir Rob. Long accepted and the bills following and the service to go on."

Write to Mr. Evelin [touching] the great complaints against Mr. Birstoll (Burstall) at Gravesend and to certify about his deputations of the Sick and Wounded.
Prince Rupert to have 2,000l. out of the rents of the Bishopric of Durham.
The King to be moved at the next Cabinet Council about the convoy for the merchants of Bristol.
The Attorney General to attend next sessions at the Old Bayly about the business of convicting the several persons indicted for clipping money: and acquaint him that Mr. Doyly is appointed by my Lords to attend him in order to the securing their estates to the use of His Majesty.

Mr. Doyly of the Mint to attend on Saturday morning about Mr. Griffiths' forfeiture begged of the King by Mr. Morris Deladdally.
Mr. Jo. Howard's petition is referred to Sir C. Harbord.
Enquire at the next meeting of the Commissioners for Prizes what wine [there] is at Portsmouth for "Beveridge," [Navy beverage].
[Order for] 500l. to be distributed to the Navy for cabbages, carrots and several roots and lettuce and purslane and other herbs.
The Commissioners of the Navy and the Victuallers [called in] together. A letter from the Commissioners of the Navy concerning the payments of the Victuallers is considered. The several heads [thereof are] debated and agreed [upon] to the satisfaction of the Victuallers.
Speak with the Customs Commissioners on Monday next about Birstall, their officer at Gravesend. Mr. Evelyn to be then here.
Upon Auditor Beale's report Sir Jonathan Atkins and Major Walters [are ordered] to be here on Monday next about the business of Guernsey.

Transmit [to the Commissioners of the Navy] the letter of this day's date from the Victuallers and the two accounts concerning Sir Dennis Gauden's receipts: and write the Commissioners of the Navy that my Lords wonder there should be so much cash in that year in Sir Dennis Gauden's hands and the seamen not paid: and enquire how Sir George Carteret's ledger differs with Sir Dennis Gauden's account.
A caveat entered for Mr. Bernard Howard about a searcher's place in the Custom House.
Mr. Cole, Lord Newport's man, [is ordered] to be Receiver of Hearthmoney for co. Stafford. Send to Judge Milward about it.
John Rogers to be a landwaiter at Plymouth in the place of Sebastian Pennicott, deceased. A warrant ordered.
The Treasury to be adjourned till Tuesday the 15th of October: and set it up in the door.
Write to the Attorney General to deliver in the papers concerning Sir John Banks (erased), the East India Company and the principal officers of the Navy.
Refer to the Commissioners of the Prizes the petition of Raffaelo de Ruffly, the Armenian.
The Customs Commissioners called in. [Ordered that] all things concerning the Customs [are] to be communicated to the Customs Commissioners.
An order for the King [for his signature] to the Commissioners of the Navy to cancel and deliver to the East India Company the charter party and agreement made between said Commissioners and said Company concerning the ship "Leopard," and the other of the King's ships that were employed [temporarily] in said Company's service. In the margin: To advise with Sir Ro. Long. Sir Ro. Long said this must be done by privy seal.
The Victuallers called in. Some questions [are asked them] about money at Bristol not returned. There was money in several ports to be for the Victuallers as followeth:
