her for work done in Cotton House garden "as appears by the bill signed by John Simpson, my Lord Halifax's gardener"; that the other bills for work done there were entered some time since in the books of the Officers of the Works, but petitioner's bill not being brought when the rest were passed they refuse to notice it because not then brought in, "which she says was because my Lord Halifax's gardener said my Lord would pay her; which his Lordship refuses." T. Harley to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands. By order in Council of Sept. 3 last the Queen referred to my Lord Treasurer a petition of Capt. Davison and Mr. Brown proposing to build a light house on a small island or rock called the Skerries, of which island they pray a grant with a grant of reasonable tonnage on ships passing [by the said light]. Treasury reference to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of Joseph Sturt, one of the sureties of John Weston, late Receiver for Co. Surrey, shewing that though a surety for the said Weston he neither directly nor indirectly received any of the Queen's money nor had ever any other advantage by it; that he is only tenant for life of a small paternal estate and can raise no money on it and is in no way of business and should be ruined if my Lord Treasurer should give power for seizing his life estate.
