Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Principal Commissioners for Prizes to pay 22l. to Walter Middleton for charges laid out by him on the prize ship Francis View Chattell which was brought into Milford at the beginning of the present war before any Agent [for Prizes] had been appointed at the said port, & he having been directed by the said Commissioners to take care of the said ship and lading.

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to Spencer Compton to pay as follows as royal bounty & pursuant to her Majesty's pleasure signified to the Lord Treasurer: viz: 25l. to Anne Edon and 20l. each to Edith College, Eliz Gellott & Rebecca Bruges alias Pride. In the State Room 6 beds with curtains & vallance as usual, curtains for the windows, 2 carpets, 12 chairs with cushins; likewise 2 great Bed chairs, the hangings of damask & bedding as usual; with a looking glass & a close stool. In the Captain's Cabbin 3 beds and other furniture as usual. In the Gun Room 6 beds with curtains; and for the Pages of the Backstairs between the Bedchamber and the State Room 2 beds, one with curtains, the other being close. In the Middle Room 6 leathern chairs and a carpet for the table. For the officers' cabbins 6 beds; small stores, chamber potts and basons, 1 dozen candlesticks with 12 pair of snuffers. Same to Mr. Walpole [Secretary at War] to prepare a royal warrant for paying 200l. to Major James Allen who as Commissary of the Provisions sent with the Forces under Earl Rivers in 1706 appears to be in surplusage on his account for the said provisions for the Forces in Spain & Portugal. The said sum is to be upon account of his demands [in respect thereof but is to be] towards subsisting him whilst a prisoner in France or till he shall be enabled to make up his said account. Royal warrant dated Windsor Castle to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to pay 1000l. to Henry, Earl of Grantham as royal bounty, in regard of his many faithful services: he having prayed a pension of 1000l. per an out of the revenue of Ireland but the Queen not thinking it proper to burden said revenue with such pension in consideration of the present charge thereon. Money warrant for 602l. 5. 0 to Nathaniel Estwick in full (with 100l. already paid him by way of advance before his departure for St Christopher) for his services & expenses as Secretary or Chief Clerk to the Commissioners for enquiring into the state of the losses sustained by the proprietors of plantations & inhabitants within her Majesty's Island of St Christopher when the French invaded that island in 1705–6. The present payment is in full of the certain sum of 250l. directed to be paid to him by the privy seal of 31 July 1707 and of the bill of expenses as below amounting to 466l. 13. 0 as allowed by Secretary the Earl of Sunderland on the 10 July 1708. “I allow this bill except the first article which is submitted to my Lord High Treasurer” (the said first article being 14l. 8. 0 for the charge of taking out the said privy seal & for Exchequer fees &c).
Appending: bill of sums expended in the execution of said Commission after deduction of the claim of 14l. 8. 0 for Exchequer & other fees, which Treasurer Godolphin disallows “in regard articles of that nature are not accustomed to be allowed on any bills of extraordinaries by persons employed in her Majesty's service abroad.” The bill includes various sums for horse hire and messengers to the several gentlemen in Antigua named in the Commission and the like at Montserrat and St Christophers; 8l. 8. 0 to the Provost Marshal for serving several summons to the inhabitants to bring in their accounts; 15l. for the hire of a horse and negro for the several journeys made to hold courts; 20l. for the use of a house in St Christophers for 4 months; 7l. 15. 0 for going with the Commissioners to Montserrat for passing their accounts, holding court and staying there 5 days; 3l. 15. 0 to the Provost Marshal for summoning the Commissioners and recording the Commission and proceedings in the Secretary's Office at Montserrat; 4l. 4. 0 for recording the Commission and proceedings and the general abstract in the Secretary's Office at St Christophers; 118l. for charges & expenses for myself & clerk at St Christophers from 17 Nov 1707 to 14 March following being 118 days: 3l. 8. 0 for binding up the 4 volumes of accounts and 1l. 10. 0 paid to the native Irish “who assisted our landing [in Ireland on our return] when we were chased into Clanakilty Bay by 2 French privateers & helped us & the mails up the rocks and procured us horses & guides to Kinsale.” Money Book XIX, pp. 306–8. Money warrant for 547l. 11. 10 to Christopher Rhodes (as in full together with 100l. advanced as above) of 250l. for the like services and 397l. 11. 0 for a bill of expenses as Secretary or Chief Clerk to the Commissioners for enquiring into the like losses in the island of Nevis by the late invasion of the French.

Treasury reference to the Principal Commissioners of Prizes of the petition of Lancelot Whitehall & John Mansergh et al, officers of the Customs at Deal, shewing that in 1702 they seized about Deal silver plate, bullion & goods to the value of 690l. 6. 2, one moiety whereof would have been the petitioners' but that the then Commissioners of Prizes demanded the goods as prize from Port St. Mary & Vigo and obtained an order from the Customs Commissioners to have same sent to London: therefore praying some satisfaction according to the Royal proclamation of 13 Dec 1702.
