October 1. Money order for 20l. to John Lowe for half a year to September 29 inst. (“at Michaelmas last 1707”) for locking up etc. her Majesty's treasure. Order Book VII, p. 8.
October 1. Same for 12l. 10s. 0d. to Thomas Fox for a quarter to Michaelmas last [September 29 inst.] for keeping the registers of loans in the Auditor of the Receipt's Office. Ibid., p. 9.

October 3. J. Taylour (in the absence of Mr. Lowndes) to the Postmaster General to prepare the necessary warrant for discharging Mr. Dummer from all demands of arrears on his present contract for the pacquet service to the West Indies and for making a new contract with him in accordance with your report on his petition. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 360.
Treasury reference to the Postmasters General of the petition of George Maine of Edinburgh, who was Postmaster at Edinburgh, praying a commission to manage the Post Office in North Britain, alleging he can improve the revenue, “he having managed the Post Office for the Crown since the 11th of November when his farm thereof ended.” Reference Book VIII, p. 306.
October 4. Royal warrant dated Newmarket to Christopher Tilson, Receiver of the arrears of the Land Revenues of the Crown, to pay 100l. to Richard Marshall gent, for so much by him released to the Crown by deed dated September 27 last for arrears due to him at the death of Wm. III on his salary of 200l. per an. as Master of the said King's Private Studd, which salary was payable by the Master of the Horse by virtue of a royal sign manual of 1700 July 1. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, p. 258.
Same to the Postmasters General to frank the letters or pacquets (not exceeding 2 ounces weight) of the Members of Parliament of Great Britain [that is Scotch as well as English members] in the same manner as the letters of the Members of the English Parliament under the royal warrant of 1704–5 March 16: all by reason that the time is approaching for the meeting of said Parliament. To prevent abuses the Members are to constantly endorse their names on their own letters with their own handwriting. Ibid., pp. 258–9.
October 4. Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for felling 300 trees yearly for 40 years to come in New Forest for the service of the Navy: it appearing by a survey of said forest that there are about 12,000 Navy trees which may be taken within the next 40 years. (Treasurer Godolphin's warrant dated 1707 November 4 hereon accordingly to the Surveyor General of Woods Trent South. This warrant quotes the privy seal as dated October 25.) Ibid., pp. 259–261. October 7. Money warrant for 100l. to the Mayor of Berwick for one year to September 29 on the allowance for repair of the bridge over the Tweed. Money Book XIX, p. 108. Disposition Book XIX, p. 63.
October 8. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Receipt to alter to a smaller denomination the Ordnance Office tallies and orders on Low Wines, to wit the [remainder of the] 73,592l. 8s. 6½d. which in 1705 December 5 was issued to Harry Mordaunt, Treasurer and Paymaster of the Ordnance, out of loans made by himself on credit of said Low Wines; the several orders for which said loans are registered payable after 604,200l. 8s. 3½d. charged on the said Duties and were drawn without interest: and the officers of the Ordnance having represented that they are under great difficulties to raise money on the said tallies and orders by reason that the greater part of them do contain larger sums than persons are generally willing to advance on tallies and orders so remote in their course of payment as these happen to be and that it will greatly tend to the public service to take in and vacate the same and to deliver to the said Treasurer tallies and orders for smaller sums in lieu thereof: the said existing bier tallies being as follows:

III for the 160,000l. to the East India Company) towards making good such quarterly payments on Annuities purchased anno 1707 as shall grow due at or before Michaelmas 1710: all in accordance with the Act of 5 Anne [4–5 Anne c. 18] for settling a fund for Annuities.

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to Henry St. John to prepare a royal warrant for allowing to the Regiments of Col. Lillingston, Col. Wynn and Col. Lepell, the respective sums of 732l. 4s. 2d., 1180l. 2s. 2d. and 525l. 16s. 2d. (making 2438l. 2s. 6d. in all) for their pay and allowance from the time of raising until 1705 May 23; the said sums to be deducted from the sum of 6600l. advanced in England to the said Regiments before their embarcation for Ireland in 1705, on account of subsistence only (exclusive of levy money); the balance of 4161l. 17s. 6d. to be charged on the said Regiments and deducted accordingly either in Ireland or where they may be in service.
Prefixing: report by the Comptrollers of Army Accounts on the memorial of the said three Colonels. The Regiments began to be raised in April 1705 and were shortly after put on the Irish Establishment as from May 24 and were sent into Ireland.
