Povey, late Treasurer for Sick and Wounded, to pay (out of moneys
imprested to said Povey) 118l. 15s. 0d. to Thomas Pemberton as in
full of 4¾ years' rent to June 24 last of the house hired from him by
the late Commissioners for Sick and Wounded "from which time
that charge (as to her Majesty) ceased."
Prefixing and appending : petition and certificate from said Commissioners
touching said arrear of rent of which they pray payment,
"that the expense of the suit commenced against Jer. Gerrard their
clerk and accomptant may be ended, to whose house the books and
papers must be removed" and further praying some payment to
him for his great services and in pity to him and his family. Money

Same by same to S. Travers, the Surveyor General of Crown Lands,
to contract with the Corporation of Windsor for the purchase (for
650l.) from them of their mills in Under Ore in the parish of Windsor
which work the engine that forces up the water that supplies Windsor
Castle with water.
Prefixing : said Surveyor General's report thereon. In 1633 the
engine was leased to Luke Cheynall for 7 years at 34l. per an. and in
1681-2 Jan. 2 was agreed to be leased to Sir Samuell Moreland for
50 years but it does not appear that this latter lease was ever perfected
and the Crown has held the said mills ever since at 30l. per an. rent.
There is a charity payable by the Corporation to the poor of the
parish out of the said tenement "which I shall take care to be
settled on some other good security before the money be paid. There
was some time since referred to me by her Majesty in Council a
petition of Mr. Woodson complaining of the Corporation's licensing
small encroachments on the Queen's waste and particularly on Mr.
Clerk's building the house fronting the lower gate of the castle now
Shuttleworth's Tavern. I went down purposely to view it and
examined several witnesses produced by him and [by] the Corporation,
but not finding any encroachments on that side where the petitioner
pretended to be aggrieved and not being inclinable to represent that
house to her Majesty as a public nuisance which is rather an ornament
to the town and entrance into the Castle Mr. Woodson never took
out the report. However finding that the Corporation had licensed
a small encroachment on the opposite side of this house to make it
the more uniform and convenient and had done the like in some
other cases I admonished them of it and represented to them that
such practises might endanger their charter and therefore advised
them to make an order of Court to be entered in their books that no
licences of that kind should ever be granted for the future : which

Royal letters patent confirming to William and Richard Clayton
a grant of land in the island of St. Christopher as follows. By royal
letter of 1702 Sept. 26 we directed Christopher Codrington, late
Governor of the Leeward Caribbee Islands, not to dispose of any part
of the island of St. Christopher taken from the French, for any term
longer than 3 years and that he should send us from time to time an
account of the persons desirous to settle any part of the said island
for a further term than as aforesaid or in freehold, so that they
might receive our confirmation of the same. By a grant under his
hand and seal at arms dated 1704 April 29 the said Codrington, being
then Commander in Chief of those islands, granted to William Clayton
of Liverpool merchant and Richard Clayton of St. Christopher
merchant the plantation adjoining to Lagarigues on the west side
of the island commonly called Renew-land and the house of Pinnell's
upper plantation in Capesterre Quarter with 200 acres of land lying
convenient, about it, not to incroach on the grant of Lessei's house
with 150 acres : the said grant to be of force for 2½ years and the
grantee to have an equitable title to the Queen's royal bounty for
Pinnell's Upper House and land in case the whole island should
remain with us upon the next treaty of Peace. By their petition the
said Claytons have sought a confirmation of the grant that they may
be the better enabled to carry on the said settlement and improvement
thereof. The same is hereby approved and a further term of 2½
years granted therein : on a rent of 5s. per an. to the Crown payable

Royal warrant to Thomas Handasyd, Captain General and Governor
in Chief of Jamaica, to direct the Receiver General there to remit the
1000l. recovered from one Johnson, Captain of a privateer, for
breaking his bond for good demeanour, he having broken his
instructions by seizing and taking several Spanish vessels under the
pretence of trade. The said sum is to be remitted to the said Receiver

Roope and Thomas Colby [Transports Commissioners] to make out

Royal warrant to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to pay the charge
of repairing and fitting up the new Train of Artillery there to a total
cost of 1298l. 0s. 8¾d. whereof 479l. 6s. 11d. is to be out of the money
unissued on the royal warrant of 1702-3 March 21 for 4895l. 0s. 11d.
for mounting and repairing musket barrels ; 300l. is to be out of
Military Contingencies and 518l. 11s. 9¾d. out of the Irish revenue at
large : all by reason that the said Lord Lieutenant by his letter of Sept.
18 last represented that on inspecting the condition of the Ordnance
there he found the Marching Train much out of order being but few
guns mounted and even the carriages of those much decayed "whereupon
you gave direction for the new mounting of the Train in Dublin
and sent for several brass ordnance that lay unmounted in remoter
parts and also gave order for the making a proportionable number
of shot and powder waggons and other necessaries." Out Letters

Same to same to sell a small vessel lately used for a Guard of the
coast of Ireland, she being a small privateer of 8 guns which lay
condemned [as a prize] in Dublin port and which was bought from the
Prizes Commissioners and fitted up last summer accordingly and has
been very usefully employed in cruising between the sands where the
men of war could not go and in fetching the pacquets and carrying
soldiers, but being not fit for winter service it will be very expensive
