|
Sir Theodore Janssen and Sir Stephen Evance are called in. My
Lord Treasurer acquaints them that there is occasion to remit 20,000
livres to Her Majesty's Resident at Geneva which his Lordship
desires may go by this night's post. Sir Theodore says that comes
to 6666¾ crowns and asks 61 pence for each crown but agrees at 60½
pence which comes to 1680l. 11s. 1d. and gives his bills accordingly.
This sum is to be issued to Mr. Fox by a particular royal sign
manual ; out of Civil List moneys. Ibid., p. 49.

[My Lord orders a letter of direction for] 5000l. to be issued to the
Treasurer of the Navy : out of loans on Malt : for imprests and bills
of exchange : to be placed to the head of Wear and Tear.
[Likewise for] 21,000l. to Mr. Fox [for the Forces Abroad] : out
of the like loans : and is to complete 25,000l. for two months' full
pay for the King of Portugal's 13,000 men, being 83,333⅓ milreis
computed at 6s. per milrei according to his memorial of the 29th
ult., to wit from March 1 next to April 30 next, payable by advance.
Also 4571l. 12s, 11½d. to same : out of loans to be made by Fox
himself on credit of the Malt Duties anno 1704 : to be applied

grant or discharge any arrears of those revenues with respect to the
Act of Parliament and the Charter relating to her grant of those
revenues for the augmentation of the maintenance of the poor

It is this day agreed by Sir Henry Furnese with my Lord Treasurer
on her Majesty's behalf that he, Sir Henry, will for six months to be
reckoned from this day remit and cause to be remitted to Amsterdam
all the moneys necessary for the service of her Majesty's Forces in
the Low Countries and Germany or for any other services of her
Majesty for which she shall have occasion to remit money to
Amsterdam within the time aforesaid : and will also remit and cause
to be remitted to Lisbon all the moneys which her Majesty's service
shall require in Portugal during the said six months : all which
remittances shall from time to time during the term aforesaid be
made as often as ready money shall be directed by his Lordship for
the same : and that all the said remittances shall be made from time
to time for the best advantage and profit of her Majesty : and that
he, Sir Henry, shall weekly and every week during the time aforesaid
give to his Lordship in writing a true, particular and exact account
of the value and real cost of all the bills of the said remittances,
whether drawn from hence or from either of the said places : the bills
to be drawn from hence to be delivered in London or Westminster
to the Paymaster of the Forces ; and the value of the bills drawn
from abroad to be paid to the respective deputies of the said Paymaster
there : and that the said Sir Henry will endorse all the bills
aforesaid to be delivered to the Paymaster here and assure the
payment thereof. And for the risk of all the said bills to be drawn
from hence and for commission, brokerage and other charges of all
the said bills as well those drawn from hence as those from abroad
his Lordship on her Majesty's behalf is pleased to allow to the said
Sir Henry 11 shillings for every 100 pounds and [my Lord undertakes]
to pay for the said remittances on the delivery of the bills ; and to
make punctual payment of all [such of] the said bills as shall be
drawn from abroad upon due notice thereof. [Signed] Henry

and for which they have former minutes, is still unpaid to them.
