Cal. Vol. XVIII, p. 230. I immediately transmitted the memorial to my Deputy in New York. In reply he has sent me the annexed draft [missing] being a survey of a little farm adjoining to the town or city of New York which it is prayed may be added as a glebe to the rectory of Trinity Church newly erected there ; and also of half an acre of ground lying before the said Church, to build upon it a house for the minister. I am informed by my said Deputy that the farm contains above 100 acres and is already granted to the churchwardens &c. of Trinity Church for which they pay to the Crown the yearly acknowledgment of 6 bushels of wheat amounting to 12l. per an., the whole farm being worth 200l. if it was to be sold at the current price that profitable lands go at in that Province. A new grant to them of the said farm free of any acknowledgment may be an advantage to the said church. The half acre of land is commonly known as the Governor's Garden. It is convenient for building the minister's house. It now lies waste and is of the smallest value to be sold. Out Letters (Plantations Auditor) II, pp. 140-1.
