Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to discharge James Hollidge, of Bristol merchant, from the surcharge of 20s. per ton on 200 tons of caliment (lapis calaminaris) from Bristol the said Duty having been imposed by Act of Parliament [4 Wm. and Mary c. 5.] as from 1st March 1692–3 but same did not pass the royal assent till many days after and was not published in print until the 24th of the said month which was long after Hollidge had bought and exported the said goods; he having taken all his measures under the old Customs. Same to same for an additional allowance of 30l. per an. to the collector of Whitehaven port in consideration of the great increase of trade there. Ibid., p. 228.
Treasury reference to the Excise Commissioners of the petition of Francis Partis et al to be admitted to compound their debt of 6726l. 13s. 4d. due to the late King: they having paid over 100,000l. for Customs and Salt Duty during the past 13 years, but having had great losses during the late war. Same to the Customs Commissioners to deliver up Richard Gotley's bonds ut supra p. 188 on his payment of 2017l. 16s. 4½d. which with 996l. 10s. 8½d. of surrendered debentures will make up his total debt of 3014l. 7s. 1d. to the Crown. Ibid., p. 200.
Same to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular of the Christopher Inn, at Eton, an old building belonging to the College of Eton, in order to extension of lease thereof to same: on a fine of 300l.
Prefixing: said Surveyor's report dated 1701–2 Feb. 29 on the petition dated 5 April 1701 supra Tr. Cal. XVI, p. 241 of the Provost and Fellows of said College for such extension of lease. Petitioners state that they had then expended 1800l. in the necessary repairs of the roof and outside of their College Chapel and intended to proceed to the enlargement and beautifying the inside thereof to an estimate of 3000l. more but now I find that they have actually laid out 5000l.
As to the allegation of a debt of 465l. due to them out of the Exchequer I find from inspection of the College books that Henry VI in his charter of incorporation of the said College gave to the Provost and Fellows 3 tun of Gascony wine yearly Customs free; and that same used to be paid in kind by the Chief Butler till the latter part of the reign of Henry VIII when it was changed into money at the rate of 5l. per tun and the same was thenceforth paid till Michaelmas 1674 and also 4l. 4s. 0d. per an. for Impost Duty for the same, which latter sum was similarly paid to 1672 Xmas "since which [time] these annual allowances have been discontinued to the said College, amounting now to 526l. 16s. 0d." Treasury warrant to William Roberts, Receiver General of the Honor and Castle of Windsor, to pay 1300l. to Richard Dalton for the absolute purchase of the inheritance of the rent of 48l. 7s. 9d. per an. reserved out of several prebends, rectories, manors &c. in Devonshire, London and elsewhere and granted by Edward VI to the Dean and Canons of Windsor and of which the said Dalton is seized in fee, but which the said Dean and Canons are ready to accept as in compensation for several messuages, barns and 40 acres of land in New Windsor which have of late been made use of and employed for and towards the making the Great Avenue from Windsor Great Park to Windsor Castle and for enlargement of the Little Park of Windsor.
