Royal warrant dated Kensington to Edward Nicholas Treasurer and Paymaster of the servants of the late Queen Consort, to pay the salary or yearly sum of 200l. to Phillip Bertie as one of the Gentlemen of the Privy Chamber attending the late Queen Consort: the same being the salary inserted for him in the Establishment of the said late Queen: same is hereby to be paid from the time it was last paid up to 1699 June 24 (being the time the King has directed the other servants on the said Establishment to be paid) and to be continued thenceforward during pleasure. Same to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of the Mayor &c. of Windsor concerning lands and common to the value of 480l. 10s. 0d. taken into Windsor Little Park, for which they have received no satisfaction: also praying for 90l. for the three quarters' rent due to them at Michaelmas last for the mill and engine for supplying the castle with water. Treasury warrant to the Auditors of Imprests to prepare for declaration the accounts of the Earl of Ranelagh from 1st April 1692 to the 25th March 1699 in two accounts, by reason that he is not enabled to clear the Regiments since the 1st of April 1692, the vouchers (especially those relating to the subsisting the Regiments in Flanders) being so general that they could not be adapted to yearly accounts wherefore he has been obliged to carry on one entire account from the 1st April 1692 to the 25th March 1699 but in nevertheless willing that same should be divided into two accounts to the end they may have the quicker despatch. May 5. Same to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular of the tenement (in Porthea Prior ut supra p. 239) in order to extension of lease thereof to Samuell Gross.

May 6. Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Earl of Ranelagh to allow the usual pay of a Colonel to Col. Henry Holt from the date of his commission 1694–5 Jan. 1; it appearing that his name is continued on the Muster rolls as Lieutenant Colonel until the reducement of the Regiment. King's Warrant Book XXI, p. 65.
Same to same to give credit in the accounts of the said Col. Henry Holt's Regiment for the sum of 3056l. 2s. 4d. for the raising, maintaining and clothing a considerable number of recruits in 1695 until their arrival at the Leeward Islands according to an account signed by the late Col. Codrington, Governor of the said Islands; the said recruits having landed in the said Islands in July 1696 and were only allowed in the musters of said Regiment from Aug. 1 following. Ibid.
Same to same not to charge the abovesaid Regiment with the sums of 30l. and 192l. 12s. 5d. charged by the said Codrington for provisions, phisic and other contingent charges: such expense having for other Regiments been usually paid out of [Army] Contingencies. Ibid., p. 66.

May 6. Report to the King from the Treasury Lords on the petition of the Mine Adventurers who pray that for the encouraging of the extracting of silver out of the mines in Wales the Master of the Mint may be directed to coin such silver with the arms of Wales in like manner as was heretofore done.
Hereon the [Principal] Officers of the Mint have reported that in the reign of Charles I silver extracted out of lead mines in Wales was coined with the Prince's arms set on the reverse of the coin and the Master of the Mint has been authorised to set a particular mark upon money coined out of certain sorts of bullion [such] as an elephant upon the gold and silver imported by the Africa Company. They therefore favour the petition. For securing the credit of the Mint and of the moneys so coined they think the Master be not obliged to coin a greater quantity of silver with the arms of Wales that shall appear to have been so extracted out of Welsh lead ores and for the said Mine Adventurers. Royal warrant dated same giving power to the Justices of Peace [for Co. Yorks] at their General Quarter Sessions to appoint persons to take down and carry away so many of the stones of the ruinous walls of the castle of York or of the several buildings belonging to the King's manor house [of St. Mary] in the city of York (if the lessees consent thereto) as shall be approved by Sir William Robinson bart. and William Byerley who are to take care that no more be pulled down or taken away than shall be absolutely necessary for the rebuilding the County Gaol in accordance with the late Act of Parliament 11–12 Wm. The ships now going for Newfoundland will sail in six days and unless the money for the additional men lately sent thither be paid before the going away of the said ships it may occasion great disorders there. Same to the Navy Commissioners to charge the Earl of Orford on his accounts as late Treasurer of the Navy with the money received for the Marine Regiments (which ought to be comprised in the Imprest Roll) and also with all the Defalcations made upon the ships' books from the men of those Regiments. Same to Mr. Borret to obtain the Attorney General's opinion on the enclosed petition [missing] of Thomas Pechey, mews and stable keeper to the King at Greenwich, concerning a piece of ground on which stands the Hobby stable &c. and in the possession of Sir John Morden's tenant but being in truth part of the demesnes of the King's manor of East Greenwich. Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Lords Justices of Ireland to pay 6000l. to Audley Mervin, Hugh Mervin and George Mervin and 600l. to Richard Warburton in pursuance of the late Act of Parliament in Ireland for an Additional Duty on tobacco; viz. for the services of their father Sir Audley Mervyn as Speaker of the House of Commons Ireland in 1661 and for said Warburton's services as then clerk of the said House of Commons. Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal to discharge William Thomas, late Paymaster of the Band of Gentlemen Pensioners and William Smith, present same, from the liability to account in the Exchequer for the moneys received and paid by them in that their capacity; it appearing that the clause in their patent making them liable to such accounting was never in any patent of any Paymaster of said Band before the reign of James II; and that the ancient and present method of paying the Band is by a roll made up by the Clerk of the Cheque and signed by the Captain or Lieutenant of the Band and the money so chequed is stopped thereupon for the King's use at the Exchequer and the King is discharged from the demands of the said Band by the acquittance of the said Paymasters at the Receipt where the precise sum issued to them for each person of the Band appears upon record; and further that the said Paymasters have no salary from the King nor any allowance for the charges of passing their accounts. Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of Jasper English, Underhousekeeper of Hampton Court Palace, shewing that for 14 years he has had a lease from Mr. Yonge of the meadows adjoining the House Park and also an Exchequer lease of a little meadow of 13 acres part of the said meadows lying next Kingston Bridge and has further purchased several pieces of ground lying between the meadows and the Thames together with the way for the barge horses: therefore praying various items of consideration from the King who desires to have the said meadows in his own hands. Royal warrant to the Auditors of Imprests to allow in the accounts of the Earl of Ranelagh Paymaster of the Forces for the 15 months from 1690–1 Jan. 1 to 1692 March 31 the sum of 1438l. 3s. 4d., "he having been charged therewith amongst other money in some or one of his accompts already passed"; as appears by the representation of Dr. John Blow, executor of Roger Hewett, former cashier to the said Earl, that the said Hewett being ordered down into the West with a considerable sum of money to pay the army at that time there with the late King did at his return thence give in a fair account of all his receipts and payments in that Expedition except the said sum of 1438l. 3s. 4d. which was in foreign coin; and further that Hewett was a great loser by the badness and smallness of the silver coin and by the rising and falling of guineas: and that by means of his distracted condition a considerable time before his death he left his affairs in great confusion and so much money owing to various subjects that his executors cannot find wherewith to pay the said 1438l. 3s. 4d.: and the King being now pleased to allow this sum in view of Hewett's former faithful services. Treasury allowance of Thomas Hall's bill of 767l. 10s. 8d., as Cashier of Excise, for incidents from 1697 Dec. 13 to 1700 Dec. 25 (viz. for Exchequer fees and charges on 3,307,527l. 4s. 7d. carried to the Exchequer for Excise, Salt and Leather receipts &c. within said period).
