William Lowndes to the Auditor of the Receipt. In the scheme of the Civil List there is set down 400l. a week for the Gardens, 200l. thereof for Mr. Henning for Hampton Court Gardens and 200l. for the Earl of Portland towards the arrear due on the Establishment of the Gardens. You are to continue the latter 200l. a week but are to forbear any further issue on the said 200l. a week to Henning. Disposition Book XV, p. 125.
Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to employ Owen Jenkin as boatman and tidesman at Tenby in Milford port loco George Browne deceased. Out Letters (Customs) XIV, p. 55.
Treasury reference to the Navy Commissioners of the petition of Mary Cordwent, relict of Richard Cordwent clothier, shewing that her husband contracted in Dec. 1694 with the late Lord Berkeley for the clothing of the Second Marine Regiment amounting to 3000l. and 300l. for sea beds of which she has only received 652l.: therefore praying payment out of the deductions which are stopped in the Navy Treasurer's hands and that the imprest formerly granted by the Treasury Lords may not stand in her way so as to hinder the discharge of the debt. Same to the Earl of Bath. I read to my Lords your letter concerning the warrant to Philip Ryley about the encroachments in St. James's Park, representing that as Ranger and Keeper thereof all commands were to be executed by you and therefore desiring that the warrant might be withdrawn. My Lords have recalled the said warrant and it is the King's pleasure that the door of the little house erected on the wall of St. James's Park by the road to Hyde Park opening into the said road be made up &c. ut supra p. 169. Please cause these commands to be effectually complied with. As to the encroachments without the wall they have directed an inspection thereof as you desire. Send me your account of your expenditure for hay and beans for the deer in St. James's Park since Mr. Harbord's decease. My Lords have approved of John Eldborough as doorkeeper of the New Passage through the Wilderness into St. James's Park, he being recommended by the inhabitants of St. Martin's parish. Ibid., p. 180.

Williams the general direction which my Lords gave Dec. 1 last supra p. 221 for impresting the money for the marine soldiers to the Colonels or their agents according to the Act. The Treasury Lords to Lord Seafeild. We have laid before the King a memorial from the Postmasters General, England, touching the great arrear due from the Post Renters of Scotland for the port of letters and charge of expresses to and from Scotland and the difficulty they meet with in having the money returned from thence. It is the King's pleasure that you use all means to procure speedy payment thereof. Ibid.
William Lowndes to the Auditors of Imprests enclosing for scrutiny a list [missing] of payments lately charged on the Customs which by reason of a late appropriation of the Customs cannot be paid any longer thereout, and which must therefore be paid at the Exchequer. Ibid., p. 182.

Jan. 16. William Lowndes to the Navy Commissioners. The disbanded serjeants, corporals, drummers and centinels of the Marine Regiments of the Marquess of Carmarthen and Sir Cloudesley Shovell complain that their officers will not account with them from the year 1689 when they were raised, but stop three years' arrears of pay without giving them any account thereof. Please report whether they have received the sum entered in the accounts by their Captains. Out Letters (General) XVI, p. 183.
Jan. 17. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Thomas Walker of the office of Housekeeper of the King's House at Newmarket loco Eliz. Ellyott widow, now his wife: with the fee of 200l. per an. King's Warrant Book XX, p. 230.
Treasury warrant to the Receipt to renew a lost order No. 5073 for 100l. on the Continued Impositions issued in the name of Charles Fox and by him assigned to John Dennis. Order Book V, p. 139.
William Lowndes to the Glass Commissioners. I have read to my Lords your report on the petition of Joshua Middleton and Onesiphorus Dagnia. Please report on the enclosed further petition [missing] of the said Middleton. Out Letters (General) XVI, p. 183.
Same to Mr. Madocks (Madcoks). From the Navy Commissioners' report on the petition of Mary Cordwent, relict of Richard Cordwent who furnished the Second Marine Regiment with clothes and sea beds, it appears that under the Establishment of 17 Feb. 1694–5 six shillings a month was abated out of the men's wages at sea, and under another Establishment of 19 April 1697 seven shillings a month was to be similarly abated for clothes. Please send an account of the moneys remaining in the Navy Treasurer's hands of those deductions "and for whom it remains." Ibid., p. 185.

Petitioner's house adjoining on Duke Street measures 38 feet 6 inches in the back front next the [St. James's] Park and the depth of the ground desired is 27 feet 6 inches on which stands the greater part of an outhouse built with boards and enjoyed by the tenants of the house allowed for the habitation of the [St. James's Park] fowl keeper who have the custody also of a passage through the waste ground between the said fowl keeper's house and the said outhouse "which outhouse being used for tippling in there is a chimney in it, which standing under the windows of the petitioner's lodgings must needs be offensive to her, and the said waste ground and passage being never kept clean is a common nuisance to the adjacent houses. "All the ground on the south side of the said fowl keeper's house extending towards Long Ditch between the Park Wall and Duke Street houses was granted in 1690 to Sir Henry Fane. Ibid., p. 322d.
