Report to the King from the Treasury Lords on the several reasons for prohibiting the import of all foreign made lutestrings [lustrings] and alamodes, as referred to said Lords by Order in Council of Feb. 22 last. We referred same to the Customs Commissioners, who have proposed the enclosed clause [missing] to be inserted in an Act of Parliament for marking and sealing all such whether entered at the Custom House or brought in on seizure. If passed, they are of opinion such clause would prove not only a great advantage to the revenue, but an encouragement to the manufacture of those commodities in this kingdom. We agree with this opinion. |
