The term is but for three years and custodiams for the like term have been granted to the Earl of Mountrath and others under the Queen's letters of the same date. Royal warrant, under the Queen's sign manual, to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for the disposal of arms and horses of Papists as follows. By the Act of 1 Wm. and Mary [c. 15] for the better securing the Government by disarming of Papists, Justices of the Peace are to offer the Declaration therein to suspected Papists and on refusal the same to be accounted a Papist and so to be searched for arms etc. Thereunder several arms and horses have been seized, but no sufficient provision has hitherto been made for bringing the same into their Majesties' stores or for selling or disposing of same. The Treasury Lords are therefore hereby authorised to cause all such arms etc. to be brought into the Tower of London, to be there delivered to the Ordnance Stores, and the storekeeper there to be duly charged therewith, and to sell all such horses except such part as may be allowed for rewards: the Treasury Lords to issue warrants to persons they think fit authorising them to demand and receive from the Justices of the Peace or others having such seizures in their possession and to give receipts for same: the Treasury Lords to make allowances out of the proceeds for the charges of keeping the horses or bringing up the arms and such rewards as they think fit to persons doing any service in the premises. But if the King at any time by sign manual shall command delivery to any particular person or uses of any such arms or horses same shall hereby be duly complied with, notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary. |
