Jan. 28 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to Francis Stephens to arrest Thomas Sutton, of Banbury, co. Oxon, as a great obstructor of the Excise revenue in that towne, "having bin very instrumentall in writeing papers which were posted up in Banbury which tended very much to the disadvantage of the collection of the Excise," and also for having the Excise officer arrested and carried away prisoner whilst in the execution of his office: as appears by an affidavit of Sir Thomas Penniston, surviving Farmer of Excise in that county.
