June 1573

June 6. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 546. Sigismondo di Cavalli, Venetian Ambassador in France, to the Signory.
Recent advices have just arrived from Flanders that the commercial agreement between England and the States of Flanders had been published, but that if Flushing were not comprised a large amount of merchandise would be sent home.

June 20. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 547. Sigismondo di Cavalli, Venetian Ambassador in France, to the Signory.
Three days ago a despatch was received by the English Ambassador containing matters of great importance to communicate to the King, but his Majesty will not summon him until the arrival of news from Madrid, when he will give audience to all the Ambassadors. I have no further intelligence with regard to the marriage of the Queen of England with the Duke of Alençon, except that the proposal greatly displeases the Cardinal of Lorraine, who is offering it every hostile impediment.
