Jan. 3.	72. Emanuel Downinge to Sec. Coke. Has made inquiries res pecting the ship-carpenters Mr. Winthrop, the Governor, had with him in New England. There is Wil. Stephens, who built the Royal Merchant of 600 tons, so able a shipwright as there is hardly such another to be found in this kingdom, and two or three others. Is informed that the plantation will next year build ships of any burden. Incloses a copy of the order of the Privy Council. Prays God to assist him. Hopes those lewd and scandalous persons may receive condign punishment, and the plantation proceed with encouragement, as it deserves. Incloses,
