1441. 17 Kal. Dec. Florence (f. 10d) |
To the dean of Cloyne. Mandate to collate and assign to James Obrogay, (fn. 2) archdeacon of Clonfert (who asserts that he hopes by his own power to recover from the hands of laymen to clerical rule the below-named rectory; that he is notably skilled in canon law, and that he was lately by papal authority dispensed, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and, upon provision of the archdeaconry of Clonfert being made to him by papal letters [Cal. Lett. VIII, pp. 545, 546], to receive and hold it) the rectory of the parish church de Lochluacha alias de Dealuaacht in the diocese of Cloyne, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, which is void and has been void so long that there is no certain knowledge of the mode of its voidance, and has been and is at present in the possession of divers lay persons, summoning and removing the present lay possessors; notwithstanding that he holds the said archdeaconry, a non-major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, with which he is hereby dispensed to hold the said rectory for life. Dignum arbitramur. (An. and Ja. Goier. | An. xxxviii. Undecimo Kal. Decembris Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |

17 Kal. Dec. Florence (f. 15d.) |
To the dean and Nicholas Odubgilla and William Ocorcmyn (rectius Ocorcruyn) (fn. 3), canons, of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.). Mandate (the pope having learned that the rectory of Dundagre in the diocese of Clonfert, of the patronage of laymen and value not exceeding 10l. sterling, became void by the resignation of Donatus Omurigay made to James Obregay [rectius Obrogay], archdeacon of Clonfert, who had special power from the apostolic see, and has been by the said resignation so long void that its collation lapsed to the said see, although the said Donatus has detained it for about nine years after his said resignation, without any canonical title) to collate and assign it, the said Donatus being summoned and removed, to John Macnamyn, priest, of the said diocese, who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he had himself so promoted, and who from fear of the said Donatus's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city or diocese of Clonfert; whether it became void as above, or by the death without the Roman court of Theobald de Burgo, or in any other way. Vite etc. (An. and Ja. Goier. | An. xx. Quarto Non. Decembris Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |
5 Id. Dec. Florence (f. 17d.) |
To the bishop of Valva, the abbot of St. Mary's, Eassdare, in the diocese of Achonry, and the dean of Achonry. Mandate to collate and assign to Rory Omochan, clerk, of the diocese of Achonry—who is of noble race and has studied for several years in canon law, and who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary, as the son of an unmarried nobleman and an unmarried noblewoman related in the third and fourth degrees of affinity, to be promoted to minor orders only and hold a benefice without cure, and who was afterwards (provision having been ordered by papal letters to be made to him of a canonry of Elphin and another of Achonry with reservation of as many prebends, and also of the provostship of Elphin, then void) dispensed by papal authority to hold the said canonries and prebends and provostship—the rural rectory (fn. 4) of Cuilofind and Ranna in the said diocese, of the patronage of laymen and value not exceeding 10 marks sterling, void because Rory Ogara held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest and without dispensation; notwithstanding that the pope lately ordered provision to be made to him of the said provostship, a non-major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, and by other letters made him provision of a canonry of Elphin and another of Achonry, with reservation of as many prebends. He is hereby dispensed to receive the said rectory and provostship, and hold them together for life, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Vite etc. (An. and Ja. Goier. | An. xxxx. Decimonono Kal. Januarii Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) [See above, pp. 179, 180.] |
4 Non. Nov. Florence (f. 22d.) |
To the abbot of St. John the Evangelist's, Tuam, and the dean and Peter Ocormachayn, canon, of Tuam. Mandate (the pope having been informed by John Bremicham, priest, of the diocese of Tuam, that Thomas Obinen [sic], perpetual vicar of Athinari in the said diocese, has committed simony and perjury and other excesses and crimes [not here specified], and been a public fornicator) if the said John, who is by both parents of noble birth, will accuse Thomas before them etc. as usual, to summon Thomas, and if they find the above or enough thereof to be true, to deprive Thomas, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, of the patronage of laymen and value not exceeding 15 marks sterling, to John; notwithstanding that the present pope lately ordered provision to be made to him of a benefice with or without cure, even if a canonry and prebend, dignity etc., in the gift of the archbishop and the dean, archdeacon, provost and chapter etc. of Tuam, which mandate shall, upon his obtaining the said vicarage, be null as far as regards only a dignity or personatus, or an administration or office with cure. Nobilitas generis, vite etc. B. and Ja. Goier. | B. xx. Quartodecimo Kal. Januarii Anno Undecimo. Valven.) |
Id. May. Florence (f. 25.) |
To the abbot of Ballintober (Villa fontis [S. Patricii]) in the diocese of Mayo. Mandate as below. Martin V (upon learning that the perpetual vicarage of Omy in the diocese of Tuam alias Mayo was void by the deprivation for his demerits of Malachy Ocearna by the late John, archbishop of Tuam, and had been so long void that its collation had lapsed to the apostolic see, although the late John de Standona, priest, had detained it, collated to him by authority of the ordinary after the said lapse, for about two years without any other canonical title, and was still unduly detaining it) ordered the abbot of St. Michael's, Mayo, in the said diocese, and two colleagues to grant in commendam for life the said vicarage, whether void as above or in any other way, to Thomas Oronayn, an Augustinian canon [now] of the monastery of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (Sancte Trinitatis Ville fontis Sancti Patricii) in the said diocese, then of the said monastery of St. Michael. Afterwards, as the recent petition of Philip Micronbay, clerk, of the said diocese contained, Odo, [now] bishop of Mayo, then abbot of St. Michael's, granted the said vicarage in commendam to the said Thomas, who had then migrated from St. Michael's to Holy Trinity, and who in virtue of the said commenda obtained the said vicarage, which he still holds; subsequently to which the pope ordered provision to be made to the said Thomas of the said monastery of Holy Trinity, with the condition that as soon as he obtained possession of it the said commenda should cease. Seeing that therefore the said commenda is hoped shortly to cease, and that as soon as it ceases the said vicarage will be still void as above, the pope orders the above abbot to collate and assign to the said Philip, who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, if found fit, the said vicarage, value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, if and after it become void by the cessation of the said commenda, even if it be actually void by the free resignation of the said Malachy, or in any other way. Philip is hereby dispensed on account of the said defect to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold the vicarage. Dignum etc. (An. and Ja. Petri. | An. xxii. Pridie Non. Augusti Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |
4 Non. Aug. Florence (f. 35.) |
To the bishop of Ardfert. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Okearmunda, rector of the rural rectory of Kahimysannach (fn. 5) in the diocese of Ardfert, if found fit, the perpetual vicarage of Kyllmoyly in the same diocese, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, void because Edmund Fitzmoris has held it for more than a year without having been ordained priest and without dispensation; notwithstanding that he holds the said rectory, without cure and value not exceeding 1 mark. Dignum etc. (An. and G. de Elten. | An. xxi. Undecimo Kal. Septembris Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |
4 Kal. April. Florence (f. 52.) |

Mandate to collate and assign to Richard ap Tudur ap Jer(worth), priest, of the diocese of Bangor, B.C.L., the parish church of Llanraydur' in the said diocese, value not exceeeding 20l. sterling, so long void, because John Morton alias Mortown held it for more than a year without being ordained priest and without dispensation, that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, summoning and removing the said John, who after the lapse of the said year, without having acquired any new canonical title, has detained it for two years. Litterarum etc. (An. and G. Gonne. | An. xx. Tercio Id. Aprilis Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |
6 Kal. May. Florence (f. 63.) |
To the prior of the House of God alias St. Mary's, Molinger, in the diocese of Meath. Mandate to collate and assign to Laurence Offlyn, priest, of the diocese of Kildare, if found fit, the perpetual vicarage of St. John Baptist's, Karbry, in the said diocese, value not exceeding 24 marks sterling, so long void by the death without the Roman court of Maurice alias Maurus Omoenayd that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, summoning and removing Patrick Onary, priest, of the said diocese, who has for more than a year but less than two years after the said lapse without any canonical title unduly detained it, and from fear of whose power Laurence cannot safely meet him in the city or diocese of Kildare; whether it be void as stated, or by the resignation of Walter Ymbyrn, or because James Boys when holding it did not have himself within a year ordained priest, without dispensation. Dignum etc. (An. and Ja. Goier. | An. xxii. Tercio Non. Maii Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) [See Cal. Lett. VII, pp. 486, 488, where the forms 'Maurus Omaenaydh' and 'Maurus Omoenaydh' occur.] |

John is hereby dispensed to succeed immediately to the said Thomas in the said vicarage, and to hold it notwithstanding the said defect etc. Vite etc. |

VI, p. 115] that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, summoning and removing Thady Ohanly, priest, of the said diocese, who has unduly detained it for about four years under pretext of letters of the present pope of which the impetration was null and surreptious because the vicarage's true detainer at the time was not duly expressed, or because the said Thady had not cleared himself of his simoniacal entry therein; whether it be void as above, or because Odo Macaedadgayn (sic), clerk, when in possession, was not ordained priest [within a year], without being dispensed, or in any other way. Dignum etc. (An. and G. de Elten. | An. xx. Sexto Kal. Augusti Anno Undecimo. de Adria.) |

To Maurice Olergassa and Nelanus Maguyr, canons, and the official of Clogher, Mandate—the pope having been informed by Magonius Olergassa, perpetual vicar of St. Tierney's (Sancti Tyernaci), Cluaneyes, in the diocese of Clogher, that Eugenius Macmachaun, perpetual vicar of the parish church called the plebs of Clandcellaychmicmoekuonach (fn. 6) in the said diocese, is a notorious fornicator and (being a perjurer and irregular, and having been excommunicated and publicly proclaimed excommunicate at the instance of a creditor on account of certain debts which, although he had sufficient means, he neglected to pay at the date fixed by a competent judge, and not having been absolved) has celebrated and taken part in masses and other divine offices, even in contempt of the keys—if Magonius (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and subsequently, when provision had been made to him by papal letters of a canonry of Clogher, to hold it) will accuse Eugenius before them etc. as usual, to summon Eugenius, and if they find the above or enough thereof to be true, to deprive him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, to Magonius; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage of St. Tierney's, value not exceeding 6 marks, and the said canonry, which has no value.
